    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

i recently started breeding superworms to cut feeder costs for my bearded dragons. i am familiar with all the steps to get the worms to pupate and grow into adult hood, and my darkling beetles live well. i hadn't even expected them to lay eggs this early, so when i went to clean their cage, i did a quick once over, saw no obvious eggs in the substrate and went to clean it. after i had washed the feces out, i saw there were clumps of eggs clinging to the bottom! i am afraid i may have washed away or killed the majority of this batch, and i was wondering...

Does anyone have a more efficient way of collecting or separating the eggs? i do not want my beetles to eat the larva, or for me to be stupid enough to wash them all away again. i've seen some people use screens so the eggs and larva will "fall through". has anyone else had success with this method? Thank you for everyone's time!
 
I would just keep the beetles in a container with the dry feed/substrate you use for the worms, let them lay their eggs (give them two weeks or so), then move them to a new, fresh container, and repeat.
 
Well, what I do for mealworms is I pick them out with tweezers, and/or I have a sifter I use. One thing I need to mention, is even wheat bran takes awhile to sift. I have to mix it with whole wheat flour in a roughtly 60/40 mixture for easier sifting. And for seperating for pupating, fish tackle boxes work great, or pill bottles, or film containers.
