Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Inquiry Davis Gunnin

I had made an inquiry about some of his snakes, but I was travelling for work at that time and it was hard to solidify my plans. He told me he didn't have a photo of the actual snake that he could provide. Then, the only information I found on the name was an AMA on Reddit from a 13 year old...and I'm not doing business with a minor. He responded promptly and seemed nice enough though.

Using two email addresses that I am aware of.

[email protected]

[email protected]

According to the reddit AMA mentioned, he also goes by Dendroguy or dendroguy elsewhere.

I have no experiences -good or bad- with this individual. I am, however, cautious. Not because of his age alone. I used to produce quite a few captive bred reptiles and amphibians when I was his age. I am wondering if he has any customers that would be willing to share their experiences or transaction histories that they have had with him.

Also goes/went by DavisG on another board. Bought some stuff (a few frogs and snakes) around two years ago. Back then he filled out his occupation as a glass artist or something. He would have been around 12 at the time.

Has offered a large Aldabra, hypo RFs, albino RFs, "Libyan" (not Libyan) Greeks, stars, and pancakes here under the JBOGardens name. Possibly more. Going by memory on these.

Facebook had a "Dealer of Herpetological supplies" as someone/something he worked as/for. It would seem to me that many of the tortoise offerings I mentioned above would be more likely to be items offered on behalf of the party with actual ownership rather than Davis being the party with actual ownership. I could be incorrect regarding this assumption, though.

I would be interested in seeing feedback from people who have bought from the individual under the Fauna username from mid-2013 to present. Several offerings have had prices exceeding the $10k mark, so I assign more weight to those than transactions for a few less expensive frogs and snakes (with all due to respect those animals and their market prices).

Some notes that should clarify things.
The 'Davis Gunnin' AMA; that was not made by myself but another party. If you would like a little more information as to why you can PM me.
I am under eighteen, sixteen to be exact. I will see if I can have some costumers comment on this thread, or screen shot emails/feedback threads ect.

As for accusations of drop shipping; yes I did drop ship one or two when I first started offering them, but almost all of the animals I offer are in my possession and if not in a partners in the case of some tarantulas or the more expensive animals I've offered. Feel free to PM me with any questions, or ask openly on this thread, I'd be happy to answer. You can also email me and I'll provide photos of my facilities.
Regards,
Davis

I had a party contact me a few months ago. Should have mentioned it.

Davis, with all due respect I realize you are really young. I also realize you are highly intelligent, articulate and passionate. As a parent of college educated kids with Master's degrees way older than you, I respect that.

I've looked at your FB, your mother's FB & yoga website, and am cool with what I've seen.

I'm also cool with the fiddle and the Ozone Rangers - I've played violin for many more years than you've been on this earth. Stick with it :)
And sorry about all that crap between Steve Cook and, uh, that other guy.

Here's the problem:
but almost all of the animals I offer are in my possession and if not in a partners in the case of some tarantulas or the more expensive animals I've offered

If you don't have legal possession of the animals you are advertising for sale, you are setting yourself up for failure, legally, and especially as a minor.

If you have a "phantom" partner, as you've indicated ... one has to question why. You can't possibly posess all the species you have claimed to have for sale here at Fauna.

Davis, who is your partner?

All you had to do was send me a link to another feedback thread or an email of a reference, as I indicated in my PM. I merely wanted verification you were a real person, with legitimate past business. We're coming up on a week now with no response to my simple PM inquiry to you. It's no problem if you have no response to my inquiry, but then I see you continue to post ads. When a prospective customer asks for your references (even ONE would have sufficed) and you ignore it to go and post more and more ads, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I don't care how old you are; I don't want pictures of your facilities. If you have references in the dart frog hobby, give me his/her username and I'll reach out to them.

I don't care how old you are

Age does matter, especially in Tennessee, where half of the permits to legally sell some reptiles require a person to be 21 or over. (I had actually thought some things I saw him advertising were illegal to sell in Tennessee, but I hardly keep up on that state's laws well enough.)

Personally speaking, I won't risk doing business with a minor unless there is a legal, of-age person involved. But that's just me. There's not a lot of legal recourse if something goes sideways.

Although a deal never occurred between me and davis, something seemed quite off during my attempted dealings with him.
He answered a wanted post I had up looking for abronia. He stated that he had pairs of two species he wanted to sell, along with a handful of other species that he just couldn't part with. After reading his age, I slowed the whole process down. Making multiple picture inquiries, and trying to get a lot more info. The animals he stated he had would easily cost into the 10-15k range, which I feel is a lot for a kid to be able to throw around.. So I got some poor quality pics, then some pics of 3 different species of abronia on someone's hands (different than the other set of pics). When I inquired for more pics of te animals i was about to spend 3000+ on, he stopped emailing me back. It is my assumption that he did not have any of these species, although I do not have proof of this. I will post the emails and pictures tonight, as I can't from my phone. You can draw your own conclusions, but I'm ok with not dealing with him.

As promised, here is my conversation via email with Davis. Unfortunately, it is from bottom to top if you are to read it in correct order. It consists of I believe 26 emails. I can include the pictures which he sent me as well. They drew my concerns more than anything. Also, upon talking to someone who has quite a bit more experience with Abronia than I do, he stated that at least two of the animals in question do not seem to be what he was advertising them as.

Davis
I'm going to assume that taking a few new pics was a little too much trouble? I've been waiting on other deals because yours seemed best, and most intriguing to me. It's disappointing you've decided to not get back to me.

Not unreasonable at all. Can I shoot you the pictures tomorrow? That's the day I feed everyone, and today I'm busy with paperwork regarding the newborn pups. So just so were on the same page, you want pictures of each specimen available, especially of the deppii venter?

Davis, I'm sorry, but it seems your not understanding my request. You have to understand that were talking a large number, the most I will have spent on animals I can't personally see with te exception of ball pythons. Your price fr the two pairs is fair each. I'm willing to pay it, but I need good individual pictures of the four animals I'm looking to buy. When I'm selling an animal, I tend to take dozens of pictures especially the rare ones in my collection. These animals are hard to come by, you have more than just one species I want. I would love to come to a deal with you, but I need up to date pictures of everything.
Again, thank you. And I'm hoping you are willing to meet my request.

I'm going to have to ask you for better pics, and pics of the deppi still. I hope you understand, but when I'm looking to spend 1500, or over 3000 on both pairs, quality pics are a must. The female Taeniata is extremely interesting looking. I've never seen an animal that looks like that.

I however am possibly interested in the Deppi, would you mind sending pics? I will also ask, how often do you have / sell babies? I'm currently moving a lot of my collection to go in a different direction, and know that baby season is just getting started. Also, out of curiosity.. other than the animals you have listed, what Abronia do you work with? I've only seen maybe 6 or 7 species in captivity, and only seen three species in person.

I haven't checked in awhile but last I checked, Davis had 5 pages of ads here on FC, and most were high end critters, most with no photos.

I learned why he didn't post photos, he was flipping other breeder/dealer critters, (a broker of sorts) in the case of the large Aldabra, which I was definitely interested in, he did email photos at my request, and low & behold the photos were of Mark Cantos's yard, and the Aldabra he had for sale.

ALL the ads & supposed sales, and no one coming forward with good or bad posts about the dealings with him.:shrug01:

Yes, I found some of the same photos used in ads here on the site gallery of a wholesale vendor. I do not know what permissions are/were granted in that case, but I felt like there was a lack of possession/ownership of at least some of the animals posted. I sometimes find it less easy/secure to try to discuss things with a non-owner and needlessly layered. The fewer strings attached and parties involved, the better I like it. Not a huge fan of a sale by committee, either.

I on the other hand, would like to see photos of your facilities, and would still like to know who your partner is.

In addition, you've been logged in many times, and yet no replies or answers???

Why are you avoiding this, if in fact you're legit?

If you look at his ads, the most recent has a reply, by a banned member of course, stating he's selling off of wholesale lists. I personally don't think he has any of the animals he offered me or said he had in his possession simply because of the price. Let's be realistic, The founder of opa thing is here: http://bestofama.com/amas/194ic1, meaning he has lizards that are worth literally thousands at 14? (abronia lythrochila was just offered to me for almost 1500 an individual)
