• In the past two days I have gotten emails asking about being requested to provide credit card info in order to register and also to make a post in the classifieds forums. PLEASE NOTE: In no instance will this site ask you for this sort of information.     In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Day 54, eggs are barely wrinkled... cut, or leave?

So it's day 54 with my first-ever clutch. I can clearly see things in there moving around when I candle the eggs. One of the eggs looks like it's started to deflate and dimple slightly, the other three are still fairly firm-looking. Most of the egg-cutting videos I've seen, the eggs look very deflated and wrinkled and can actually be "pinched" to cut.

Should I assume mine are slightly slow in development and leave 'em be a few more days? Or do some eggs just not wrinkle all that much and it's safe to go ahead tomorrow?
 
Normally I'd say, "Cut them." But after telling Shantel (Scratchypen) to do that, only to find out that they were under-developed, AND having my last 2 clutches take longer than normal to fully incubate, I'm going to say to give them a few more days, and just keep an eye on them.
 
When in doubt, incubate 'em out! Egg cutting isn't necessary if you think about it. It's merely to satisfy our own curiosity and (arguably) has little to no benefit to hatchlings. My own personal opinion is if a baby isn't strong enough to hatch by itself, then it will probably never be a healthy, strong, breedable adult. It's ultimately about the personal preference of the human.

If your eggs look healthy then leave them. I honestly don't cut any eggs unless I'm well over the 60 day mark, and then it's to see if the embryo is even alive at that point.
 
Dont cut unless they look deflated!! Found that out the hard way just a couple weeks ago. :( My eggs were on day 58 but horribly underdeveloped..so, wait unless they look deflated. :) I worry about my eggs getting too dry when they look really deflated and the baby not getting out as mine usually tend to be on the dry end thus why I cut usually. Curiosity killed the cat in my last bout of cutting. ;)

LOL- I knew what You meant. I am the same way...SO antsy waiting to see them. Who would You prefer to be the Daddy? How about a half & half clutch. How awesome would that be?

Half and half would be the best :) Really anything but all normals or all male pastels -- I would hold back a female of either, and a male black pastel, if I get those results.
 
.... yeah, we all know how that goes. I went out to check on the eggs today (last looked at 'em yesterday) and one egg had started oozing fairly badly through an undercalcified spot that had leaked way back in the first week, that I'd repaired with paper towel. I was worried it was going to collapse, so I went ahead and cut that one. To my relief, it was fine, and looked perfectly on developmental track, so ... yeah.... cut the rest too -_-

Odds are "fair-ish" -- got the daddy I wanted, but only one morph.

Two nice-looking apparently reduced pattern normals:

One ... probable normal? possibly a really poor pastel? who I couldn't get a good shot of (and also looks a little smaller and slightly less developed than the other three)

Dang man, chainsaw? :rofl:

My last clutch wasn't as far along as I thought they'd be when I snipped little windows at day 56. They took another agonizing week to crawl out, and in the meantime I drove myself crazy. I think I've learned my lesson.

Hope you get the odds you're looking for.

Moving around and seems fine, and not too much smaller, just color isn't quite as developed. I think it'll be just fine.

(And the slits aren't as big as they look, they close back up just fine.)
 
They look good. :) Try not to play with them too much now that you have them cut. Just check on them once a day until they start pipping.

Yeah, it's gonna take a lot of willpower not to go look half a dozen times a day, but I know I should just leave 'em be as much as I can.
