In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I had a really nice Hypo red 09 male about 4 1/2 months old. This snake was one of my favorites and eating ex breeders size thawed mice and fat rat pups. Never a problem with shed or feeding. Growing fast and very bright colors.
I sold him this morning and the buyer called me back later this afternoon saying the snake was dead. White fluid coming from his mouth. He lived about 50 miles away and I suspect he left it in the car for awhile. I have all the other snakes from this group and another and none have any issues.
Does anybody have a clue what this sounds like?
Thanks, Tim

Hey Tim,
I've never personally had that problem before, but it almost sounds like he overheated... I suppose as long as it isn't cold out, if the snake was left in a car parked in the sun for an extended period of time (even a short period of time for that matter) death would almost certainly be the result...
As far as the foaming goes... I suppose it is possible that if the temperature in the car got high enough, that COULD explain it... (Evaporating water from inside the snake --> Foam being relased from the mouth).
Like I said... I've never SEEN it happen... but then again... it's rarely hot out where I am...
It makes sense to me though...

I dont know exactly what happened . All I know is none of the others show any sign of any issues. He now says that he thinks it was a nutritional defency. In my experience, any snake I ever dealt with that had these issues lasted a long time before they expired. This snake was a heavy feeder, nice bright colors, and no shed problems. I also kept some of his feces and stored properly for further testing. He hasnt had any official testing done and I havent seen the snake so I am not sure of anything else.
I would be grateful for any other input from experienced boa keepers. Thanks, Tim

i dont see how you would have anything to worry about, so to speak. unless, he has a necrospy done to show cause of death was repiratory tract related (which is most likely what it would be if fluid was coming from the mouth). also, unless he took pics of the deceased animal, with any fluid in or around the mouth, i dont see how any blame could be put on you. obviously, im sure you feel bad and all that, as most people do if, even the healthiest animals, happen to die when sold. if the fluid expulsion is related to cause of death, it was probably an birthing issue the snake happen to have underlying and the stress and all of the car ride and such, was just too much for his body. snakes are very hearty and forgiving, so i dont see how, in this time of year, especially in a southern state such as florida, being left in a car for a bit would bring on death soley related to that, so quickly. id be willing to be, that he was born with some congenital birth issue that was the underlying cause of death, and as i stated, the stress of being put in the bag, the car ride, going in new surrounding, was just too much for his system
however, long and short is, im sorry for you and the new owner, especially the snake. i hope he does the right thing and get and necropsy done, to help definitively diagnose what might have happened.

oh, and just an fyi, fecal samples are only good up to 24hrs after defecation, and in a cool dry place (ie, fridge

IMO no telling what he did. I would tell the guy you would give him another one after you get the dead one back so a necropsy can be performed. If it was something he did more than likely he won't return the dead one and probably say he don't have it any more. But I would try to get the dead one back either way.

Personally if I paid for a hypo and it died people would find me 3 days later still trying to give it CPR. lol

Dealing with The public sucks.Im looking forward to my first litter but the people im not looking forward to and can only hope my babies dont suffer to a lazy dumb no hearted person.I like animals more than people at lease i know where i stand with a animal.Sorry for ya!
