    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Don.... I don't mean it in a paranoid way when I say I think everyone I don't know is going to rip me off.... I'm saying it as a mindset.... I try to think of everything that could possibly go wrong, and try to alleviate them BEFORE they happen??? It's like I say.... I HATE HINDSIGHT!!

You are correct in one thing, though.... things are getting MUCH worse.... you've just got to take as many precautions that YOU feel necessary.... I have MY rules, you have YOURS.... the first time I DIDN'T follow my own rules.... I got the short end.... it won't happen again.... if I decide in my own mind that I don't have to take this "once in a lifetime" deal.... then I'll just catch the next one coming.... around.... right.... NOW!.... And so on....

But Neil,  when I e-mailed you about 6 or 8 months ago on this same topic you told me just the opposite.  I guess it was because in the hypothetical scenerio I gave I had you as the person posting an animal for trade and me responding to your add.  You told me that I had to ship first in that case.    

Even so, the comment that really got me was when you said that Don shouldn't be blaming exotics totally and that he was half responsible.  I really don't think you meant it like it sounded.  He was in no way responsible (unless you go with that he was involved so he was at least partially responsible) which in that case we can say that you were responsible for robbing your own store, simply because you had it where you did.  (Just making a point,  I don't beleive Neil robbed his store and I don't think he was in any way responsible)

I'm sure it doesn't bother you but All I can say is I would hate to go through life expecting to get ripped off with every deal I make.

Also, like others have pointed out, what makes a trade different than a sale.  If you post for sale I am buying your animal with cash.  If you post for trade I am buying your animal with my animal.  The same standards of who ships first should be applied.  It may be different if you say something like "let me know what you have for trade" Rather than "I will trade for a (enter specific item)" because then if they contact you with "I have this for trade", it may be construed as they are initiating a trade by making the offer.

Something else to add confusion to the mess.

Steve.... It's obvious that you're "reading" my words, but, you're not "understanding" my words....

For ME personally.... if I don't know you, I will NEVER ship first.... no matter WHO initiates the trade.... it's just my way of protecting myself....

Steve.... please go back and re-read my posts.... I don't know how I can make it any clearer?? Remember.... those are MY rules.... you don't have to follow them at all??

And, I'm not accusing Donny of ANY wrongdoing? I just said that he is "partially" to blame because he agreed to ship the same day.... he took his chances and he lost (so far).... that doesn't make him a bad guy?? IN MY OPINION.... he just made the wrong move.... that's all....

I'm just outside of Atlantic City and about an hour east of Sewell. If you need room, you got it!  I don't know about any of you, but I take it personally when people in my state start screwing others on deal. I know a lot of good herp people in NJ, and I hate the bad apples.

Well, I received my stuff today, after being assured I would have it yesterday. It was sent 2nd day instead of overnight. Now if I was told about this, I may have not made my post yestrday. Well the stuff I received was not in the "great" condition I was told it was in, and he stuck me with shipping to boot, after saying he would pay it. Oh well, at least it is over with.

Sometimes in buisiness making new contacts and friends will call for a little "down paymant" of trust, leap of faith..1st step whatever... Yes, many times in the past it has turned out bad...but some of my best friends and customers were acquired this way. Honestly I have gained 100X more by giving people the benifit of the doubt than I have ever lost.
I'd hate to go through life paranoid or constantly second guessing peoples intentions all the time. I don't mean you should be a Cherry waiting to get picked but a little common sense and decency still goes a long way in this biz.
 
Justin.... What's your problem, man??.... I STILL have all three of them and they're in PERFECT shape.... Every time you've emailed me about them, I responded to you IMMEDIATELY telling you of their progress.... Am I to blame that NO ONE wants them??.... Even when I lowered the price for my April Fool's Sale to $200 each, I STILL got no responses for them.... not even an inquiry email from anyone.... The second you want them back, you'll have them the next day.... Remember, I've been feeding and taking care of YOUR animals for quite some time now (at the $2 per week each for the food that we agreed on, do the math.... it's not cheap keeping something that isn't selling).... MAYBE I took your last post the wrong way, but it certainly wasn't nice, it even sounded like you were accusing me of stealing them from you.... I sure hope I'm wrong!!....

Justin.... Thanks, but you're STILL wrong.... lol.... The difference is that we DO know each other and we DO trust each other.... I would have NO PROBLEM WHATSOEVER in sending you anything FIRST.... THAT'S the difference.... But, you're right in one thing.... TRUST is very important, if you DON'T know someone, and if they AGREE to ship first, that goes a LONG WAY in gaining that trust for that person.... After that first deal, I would be a lot more at ease sending something to him first, that doesn't mean I WOULD send it first, it's just that I would be a lot more at ease if I decided to PROVE that trust.... But, as Rich Z found out, it doesn't always work out that way, and it took that problem for HIM to even admit he is going to follow my advice (even though he didn't say it in those words)....
Everybody has the right to trust anybody they want, but if you don't know that person, odds are you'll get the shaft, as has been seen here multitudes of times....

Thanks for putting me straight on that post of yours, it was a big relief knowing I was wrong in my ASSumption...
