    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

define "het" for me please

I am curious to see if others define "het" the same way I do.

Het to me means that the animal is a 100% het. If it was not a 100% het and say 33%, 50%, 66% it would be a possible het. If advertised as a "het", that would mean 100% het. Possible or the % would be listed if it was not a 100% het.

Curious to see how others define "het".

I'm the same, if it says 'blah blah het blah', then I read that as 100% het, otherwise the 'possible' or % should always be listed.
 
Exactly. I bought an animal listed as a het. The deal was to buy the visual and for an extra amount, I could add a het of the opposite sex. Now I come to find out the "het" was really only a possible het. What the hell? I never would have bought it. I only bought it because it was a het of the opposite sex and breeding them would allow me to produce more visuals.
 
I define het, and possible het, the same way as you.

It blows my mind that there are people, out there, who do list possible hets as Het.

I would be pretty ticked off if this happened to me.
Sorry to hear that this happened to you. If you are keeping the p/h, I hope that he/she turns out to actually be 100% het rather than the p/h that he/she is at this time.
 
when talking recessive genes:
I define "het" as 100% het; guaranteed to be carrying the recessive gene in question. no more, no less.
Anything else is "XX% possible het." Period.
Heck, once you get down to the "33% possible hets", it is not even worth advertising, IMO, just worth mentioning at point of sale.

Sounds like you were the victim of a deceptive sales tactic.
If it were me, and I was unable to resolve this with the seller (preferred action), I would go to the BOI to report the questionable ethics of the seller.
 
Problem is that the seller was told it was a het and sold it to me as a het so who is the one responsible for this?
 
Although the problem started with the person, who sold to the seller, the seller would be the responsible party where you are concerned.
It would be up to the seller to, then, seek compensation/resolution from the person who sold the animal to him/her (if he/she should choose to do so).
 
I didn't know people did that, I always assumed if I see het that it's 100%. That would be like buying a working car from someone only to find out that it "might" work.

Whoever sold it to you is responsible, if they told you it was het they either need to back up the genetics or make it up to you. You didn't buy from the third party and so as far as you're concerned they have nothing to do with it.
 
Gets better. A seller with bad deals dumps and gets out and misrepresented animals and then others buy the based upon the lies. Going to have to put all of this together for a BOI post.

In my opinion, all that should matter to you is who YOU bought from. Whether they bought from a person who bought from another person who bought from another person is irrelevant. If they want to sell it as a het, they either need to have proven out the genetics themselves or be willing to back it up if it doesn't prove.

The person you bought it from, if it turns out it is definitely not a 100% het, owes you a refund. Plain and simple. You have no obligation to be worried about the third party in any sense. It is not your problem. They shouldn't even be making excuses, they should just send you a full refund and apologize for not being completely honest with you.
