Hello everyone,

my co-teacher and I have a 10 gal tank of dermestid/carrion beetles that we are looking to get rid of. We purchased them to demonstrate forensic entomology, the science of how insects can be used to help determine the timing of a murder. They were fun at first but their potential for exponential growth and slight odor from either their foodstuffs or frass is distasteful in our classroom.

They currently eat about a half cup of cat food a day and have a bedding made of styrofoam and aspen chips. I have heard that most people do not feed them to their reptiles due to their nature as decomposers but instead have them live with dubia and other roach colonies to help with clean up.

We are not looking to sell the colony, but likely to give it away. I believe that we are prepared to give away the colony with the tank, bedding, and some leftover cat food but I will update tomorrow. Be aware that dermestid adults can fly. Please reach out to me with any questions that you may have.

I figured that I would bump this up as the school year is almost over for us. Any interest in these little beasties?
