can any tell me why I keep seeing adds for pet only female desert balls I am sure I missed something important

In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Female ball pythons that carry the desert gene are unable to lay viable eggs, and there for are pretty much useless for any breeding purposes. They do however make beautiful pet only animals.
The male deserts have no issues with reproduction, and therefore are still used as breeders.

To add to what LuckyStar has stated, not only are female Deserts unable to lay viable eggs, it can, sometimes, put the female Desert's life in jeopardy without veterinary/surgical intervention.
