In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Disappointed.....Venomoid advertising

I'm sure it would be a larger issue to people who actually knew about it. Not the advertising but the venomids. 23,000 id say only 10% if that much even know what a venomoid is. Maybe a sticky topic on the snake forum about what exactly a venomoid is and how they are made. Not something for or against venomoids just factual information. Its off topic because it does not pertain to the ads but I think it would help a lot of people actually find out for the first time what a venomoid is and form their own opinion. All though this might increase their popularity.

You know, there might be a portion of those polled who might feel as I do:
I am dead set against venomoids. I think they are a terrible idea, a terrible thing to do to a magnificent animal and I am sure many of them die after being butchered. But, enough.

I also feel that Webslave allows more freedom to talk, more freedom to advertise, more freedom period than many other places. I will not be the one to ask that he begin limiting that freedom.

I like the idea of being inventive, thinking outside the box. Instead of wrangling about whether the ad should stay or go, I do think that is we figured out some action to take every time we saw the banner, whether that be neg. rep points, or whatever, that might be more effective.

So who has ideas?

OK, I will try to be fair about this. Prove to me that this is such a hot issue to the majority of the people here and not just a handful that this is a major hot button with. At the moment there are over 23,000 registered members on this site. Show me that even a significant fraction of the people registered here feel the way you do and I will consider it. By "significant" I mean at LEAST 10 percent. Any less then that, sorry, but you just aren't proving the case that this is the deadly hot (no pun intended) issue you make it out to be.

I appreciate that....and that is kind of fair but YIKES!!! How many of those 23K registered users actually aren't duplicate user screennames? How many different users actually sign in on a weekly basis??

It is impossible to get 2,300 users to respond to this issue and I think you know that.

You know Rich.....we don't live in a perfect world and I am sure you are aware of that. I don't want to make this a huge debate as it already is with few clear losers......our hobby and countless reptiles. I am disappointed that you allowed him to take up space on a site that I and others happen to frequent on a regular basis, enjoying it and finding it useful. It is YOUR site and can do whatever you wish with it. You can't please everyone and I guess I am OK with that. Life goes on and I have learned to live with disappointment :bawling: . This is a little different though because reptiles are my passion and hobby.....I don't make a dime on it just yet but when I do I will never stoop as low as people like Christian or CRE and promote venomoid butchery.....I hope you re-think who you allow to advertise on your site.

Can you show stats to support that you have 23K ACTIVE members? Or is that merely the number that have registered since the inception of this site?

How many members have posted in the last six months?

Surely you jest. Many ideas have been posted in this very thread.

Pick a side and stick to it. Do you blindly follow or do you look around you and THEN make up your mind?

I don't expect, nor intend to try, to please everyone. I've made my case, and that is that. Sorry if I am not jumping on your bandwagon with you, but I've done that before in other instances and got the splinters where the sun don't shine to show for it. You can choose to either like my decisions or not. But they are definitely my call, for better or worse, to make.

For the record, I don't like the idea of venomoids either, but my likes and dislikes are completely irrelevant in a situation like this. Being fair and impartial sometimes leaves you very little free will in your actions. Honestly about the only real choice in some matters is to BE fair or not. Once that decision is made, the rest of the decisions are not as difficult. Try it sometime. I mean REALLY try it. Being fair is not all that it is cracked up to be when half of the people believe you are being UNFAIR no matter what you do.

Well there you have it folks......plain and simple.....I think.. :no_evil01

Actually Brett, I can see Rich's point of view as well. It's not an easy place to be in and no matter what stand he took, were he to actually take one, he would be given an undeserved ration of sh$t.

I don't agree with him as I've stated and I don't think he did right by this site. Still, it's his site and his perogative to take a stand or not.

While I do MOST strongly disagree with him, I do back his right to allow such crap. It's not a personal thing, at least it shouldn't be, between Rich and the voiders. Rich is between the proverbial rock and that hard place and he doesn't want to take a stand, as far as I can tell, publickly on this issue.

It is a good thing though that he does allow this dissention right here on his own site. THAT is something we should all keep in mind.

From who? The crew over at CRE? Christian? And all the pro-venomoiders?

If this were my site I would be fair but I would draw the line somewhere and I wouldn't give 2 sh$ts what anyone would say about me not allowing Christian to advertise venomoids....period. If that decision was made public then I guess I would be here defending my actions as Rich is doing now.....All he had to do was say no thanks I don't support hacking.....and this is MY site, I can do whatever the hell I want....

Don't worry that last part has sunk in.....I am done.

I think that the idea proposed earlier about advertising porn was relevant...I have a friend who owns a strip club in Vegas, perhaps he could get a banner ad? After all, he has a lot of $$$$$

I think I am here as much as anyone and I have not seen this banner yet. Does the banner run in a particular forum or at random?
Dennis,

This is from the "New Posts" list.

Gotta love the "...but we still got fangs!" part. :>Puke<:

<HR style="COLOR: #000000" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->but, playing Devil's advocate for one minute, can we, in all reality, accept Christian's monetary contribution to this site...just as we do all "paid participants"...and then tell him he can't post banner ads here?

Rich is not condoning what he (Christian) purports by allowing him to advertise, he is allowing the membership, as a whole, to make up their own minds on the subject.

If we allow him to be a paid member here he should be allowed all rights adherent to membership, right?

I may not always agree with him, but fair is fair, at least for me.

Maggie,

I disagree. Apples and oranges here. Paying to be a member entitles someone to post on the BOI and other restricted areas of this site, nothing more.

Just like with the publications that I mentioned. They may sell you a subscription but that does not obligate them to accept your advertising.
Whilst I agree with your general premise, the meat behind that is exponential, and promotes disruption to the rest of the forum at large.

If Rich accepts my money then he must, in all fairness, accept my application for a banner ad on this site, if he does not then that should be spelled out, verbatim, before I donate said money. It's my money, I should know what it entitles me to, even if my name is Christian Reina.

Fauna members,

I signed up for an account on this website a few months back after a friend told me there was some talk about the website I created. At that time, I had no idea what Faunaclassifieds.com was all about, but I wanted to post my response in reference to several opinions stated by members of this forum. Unfortunately, I've come to realize that everyone is different and regardless how many times you try to explain the purpose of your opinions, there will always be a person that will think the opposite. I'm ok with that and I'm actually happy we are all free to express our opinions here in this forum.

I've been busy in RL with several issues from work to family and only a few days back I realized there was yet another post about something I did. Anyway, I'll keep this very short. After reading the policies towards posting a banner on this website I decided to give it a try and advertise here before next week's Hamburg show. I figured it would be worth a try to generate more traffic to my own website and also contribute towards the great services this website offers. There has been an increase in traffic incoming from this domain name, but not nearly half of the traffic comes from people clicking on the banner. Perhaps some of you might be happy about that, but that was not my goal. I don't make any profit for keeping the website or updating it. I simply wanted an online place for people to find information about venomoids and that's really it. If only one person clicks on the banner and finds my information useful, that's a win for me.

After reading this post, I sent a PM to Webslave about removing my banner so i won't cause any issues for them. I have no problem handling questions or concerns people have with the site I created, but when it involves others who have nothing to do about it and it could cause a problem, that's when I rather take a step back. However, Webslave made it clear and he said that I don't have to worry about it even though he also agrees with many of you about venomoids.

If anyone on this website finds it offensive that I've paid to post a banner linking my website, I want to apologize and I would ask you to simply refresh your browser and my banner will go away. For the rest of you who might think the information I provide on my website is wrong, sends the wrong idea to young people or new herp hobbyists, I welcome your opinions and I'll be more than happy to make changes if needed.

Thank you for the time to read my reply and hopefully some of you attending Hamburg might want to consider checking out my table and maybe discussing opinions with me in a professional manner. I am not an expert, I am not a herpetologist, I am not a biologist, or a veterinarian. I'm simply a reptile enthusiast that wanted others sharing my hobby to find a common place to find useful information.

Christian,

While I completely disagree with voids, I admire your response to this thread. The intent of your post and the level of maturity shown is very refreshing.

While I have to agree that this post was a refreshing change from your norm, Christian, I still don't connect the whole idea of being a "reptile enthusiast" with supporting the torture of them.

Seems a bit backwards to me.

Who wrote that and what have you done with reina?

IF you mean all of the above, go on over to TRR and ask some questions there. Ask Gary or Scott by pm at first and let them know you're on the level and want REAL information.

If you're just fooling around they'll thrash you and then give what's left to me.
