    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Disturbing Trend in the Reptile Hobby

Rob,

   You seem to be a veritable MAGNET for people that want to scam or run game on breeders.
   I on the other hand am a veritable MAGNET for people that sit on  fences and cant commit to actually BUYING a snake(Checks in themail) or those that like funny advertisements.

                            WE NEED TO SWITCH PLACES

You hand this guy to me, and I will have sent him a copy of my TERMS BEFORE I shipped the snake  to him, includeing the NO Return, no exchange, no REFUND clause honestly put up front.
And I will hand you mine and you figure a way to get them to actually SEND you the money!lol

My opinion?:

You tried to refund the money almost IMMEDIATELY
The fellow didnt want to send the snake back to you
to receive the refund. Therefore he gets no refund.
You attempt to contact him so that he knows that if he doesnt send it back by THIS date(Make up one) then he will not receive any refund, either full or partial.

Wait until that date. Then write him off.
I will send you a BIC pen to do so with.

You have noticed a trend, I think that people buy without thinking, and then blame the breeder or broker because they miscalculated their finances

They want to burn both sides of the candle. Frankly, this guy doesnt show me that he WANTS a refund, he shows me that he WANTS to keep the snakes. FINE...they are his to keep!

Seems that rather than accepting your offer for a refund, he prefers to try to sell it for whatever he can get.

The offer for the refund was completely acceptable to any thinking person, I can't understand why he refused to send the snake back first.
Rob did all that should be expected of him in offering a full refund. What more can you do? Asking for the snake to be returned first is just the way things are done on this planet.
He happened to leave out the part about the refund offer in the ad, and elected to just say that Rob misrepresented the animal.
I'd like to hear his response here, btu that remains to be seen.

Thanks for the post. I had not seen his ad yet.  I still do not understand why he refuses to send her back to me.  Except maybe he wants to make more money on her.  I found out he did this same type of thing to someone else before he purchased this animal.  He purchased a chondro from someone, received it and was unhappy with 2 scales on the back of the head on the animal. He said he received full refund before shipping the animal back.  But also when the animal arrived to him (chondro) it was a solid yellow animal, and when he shipped it back it was a solid green animal. All I know is I did not mis-represent the animal, and either way I offered a full refund, would pay for shipping back to me, and he even had the same container, cool pak, and instructions on how to ship her without a problem.  But he prefers to slander me and make statements like I mis-represented the animal. I have come to the conclusion he just wanted part of the money back so he could make more on selling her.  I know he reads the BOI because he stated before he did.  and he just wrote an e-mail informing me that the reason he placed the ad slandering my name is because of the post here on the BOI.
 
You know what. I am going to just let this die. He is not happy with the animal, I offered a refund, he decided to keep the animal. Ok oh well it is done. Nothing more I can do.  Thanks for everyones input & help on this situation.
 
You make a post on the BOI without even naming him, and he decides to slander you publicly for it, real mature of him.
Anyway, his ad has disappeared, so the link in my last post is dead.

Even if his claims of getting the refund on the chondro prior to returning it are actually true, it just means that there happens to be one individual who is asking to get ripped off.
It makes no difference what you buy, everyone knows that goods are returned before money is refunded, it's just standard practice and common sense. Anyone who thinks they deserve an exception from a stranger for some reason, thinks too highly of themselves.
 
well I was going to let it die but this is the e-mail I just received from him.  He is lieing through his teeth. first anyone that has dealt with me knows I do not sell sick animals. This guy is really becoming a disease.

Now I am really getting ticked.  I try to do the right thing, did not mention his name, he starts by using my name and making false statements, then he wants to start lying about me to make himself look better.  This guy really is a piece of work. Everyone that has done business with me knows I DO NOT SELL SICK ANIMALS PERIOD!. I guess this is just one for the record books. Mental note "keep eye out for this character"

My advice: Dont email him again and have his email and phone calls blocked. Go on those forums and make it very clear to your buying public what aTROLL this guy is and the SCAM , yes SCAM that he is running. And POST his name here for crying outloud so that I dont ever, ever sell him anything, or anyone else. THIS GUY is bad news and has ISSUES, maybe acounseling would help.

Wow, I'm sorry you have to deal with this guy Rob.

Now, I must be missing something, but could someone direct me to where this guy is publically discussing this issue.  I am just dying to know how on earth he could be telling the same story and making YOU look bad--unless of course, he is lying about you not offerring the refund.  I looked on the boa forum on kingsnake, and I looked through the classifieds there but I couldnt find the posts.  I'd love to know where to go to respond.  

Sorry, but I dont know of any place or person that gives a refund without getting the product returned first.  Most "big hitters" will know that.  
The scarey thing is that this guy could be going around and talking to the "big hitters", but not telling the truth.

Where does the herp industry come up with all of these characters???  On both sides of the coin!

He has threatned to do this in e-mails and he had posted an add on kingsnake under the Boa section this morning which was removed by the abuse coordinator. I have posted the situation in all the arboreal forums, classifieds and here that I know of so that people can be wary.  His name was mentioned earlier in another post.

Hey Rob,

 For all those who haven't dealt with Rob...Let me say something. I live a short distance away and have bought an emerald tree boa from him. Not only did he go out of his way to make sure we were happy with the snake but he also warned us of her tendencies to nip a bit. She is a wonderfully healthy snake with a great appetite. Both my husband and I were and are extremly happy with her as well as the way Rob dealt with us and would not hesitate to buy from him again. By the way Rob...as you thought She is gravid and getting bigger every day with a typical pregnant females attitude    <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

 Someone like Nick and his apparent attitude is not only sad but extremely bad for the reptile business. After all people who are happy will tell about 3 people...those who complain will tell 10 people. He not only is shady but will harm those of us who are trying to breed and sell healthy reptiles.

I wouldn't have done anything any differently than you have.  I sell handcrafted jewelry and pride myself in customer service.  If something breaks or needs to be modified, I'll do it.  If the customer isn't happy with the product, I'll either replace or refund it.  On returns with my products, however, merchandise must be returned unaltered by anyone but me before I will issue any returns.  Obviously there is also a time limit (usually 30 days after a show).  

For the very limited number of snakes I've sold, I've never really set up a definative set of return rules but usually apply a 48 hour time span to account for buyer's remorse or for the person who really didn't have permission from the others in their household to bring a snake home (usually parents, wives or girlfriends).  Other than that, I know the animals are healthy because I produced them and offer nothing more.  I do always tell whoever purchases my animals that if they get to be too much or they decide they really don't want them, that I will take them back (they're my babies after all *smile*) regardless of the amount of time elapsed.  That doesn't include a refund by the way.

As for the snake you sold, I can't see a darn thing wrong with it even with the little black arrow.  A hairlip snake??? ROTFLMAO!!!  Obviously the guy is a nutcase and I would just write him off.

Dont sweat this guy.  He is a notoriously wishy washy dude.  His rep has already been established by many breeders and dealers in the Arboreal Community.  And its not a good one so dont worry.  I know of several underhanded things this maroooon has pulled on friends of mine.  Like saying he will sell them the animal or will email them back if a sale falls apart.  Only to turn around the very next night an post it as a pair sale only.  Totally disregaurding the agreement he made to return the email if the deal fell threw.  
Second thing I know he pulled, he pulled on Noe Perez in reguards to a basin he called Zayere(i think).  Anyways he really ticked off that Dealer too.

He will say he wants it then back out then back in then back out.  I would avoid this guy like the plague.  

Let him email JoeP, thats his only real friend in the Arboreal world, so I think your rep is safe.
 
Thanks everyone for your responses.  I think it is rediculous this had to happen, but it did and nothing I can do about it except let it go.  I also think it is rediculous that a person can start a rumor and in some circumstances that rumor can be blwon so far out of proportion it affects someones character.  I am referring to the whole thread about neil's break in.  Even though in that thread there were some people with dis- agreements some of the rumors were made to sound like fact which is not true.  I am so glad that I have enough people out there that know I am an upstanding Man and only sell quality animals.  Thanks again to everyone.

Just thought you might like to know. I came upon this ad while browsing KS.com and I knew the pic of the snake looked familiar. I've never seen an ETB with such black markings. Notice how he cropped out the snakes nose in the pic. This guy really needs help. If I had the $$ I would buy that baby in a second!! I just worry for you what he's telling people on the phone. Best of luck to you, and sorry you had to encounter this guy.

I had not noticed the ad, but to tell you the truth. It does not matter what he is telling people on the phone about me. I did the right thing, he refused to accept the refund and ship the animal back to me so he is free to do with it as he likes. I can't let him waste my time any longer. I really wish I had the animal back, I have had tons of people since that have wanted to purchase the animal and saw little or nothing wrong with the nose. And as you can tell she does have a LOT of black on her. I could have sold her for alot higher but chose to sell her at a reasonable price instead.  Thanks for your concern.
