In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

DNJ REPTILES in Amityville NY... Disgusting Store animals in Poor Health!

Tom, this has been covered time and time again in the BOI. What is written in the BOI stays in the BOI, for better or for worse. Things are never deleted... think about all the legal risks the moderators would put themselves through if they deleted or edited anything in the BOI. By keeping things as is, the evidence is there for all to see, and no one can accuse the moderators of playing favorites in personal or business disputes.

Vanessa,

Let me ask, as I sincerely do not know.
There IS legal risks with deleting posts on this site, by moderators or the owner??
Also, here is an idea: What about some basic form online someone has to fill out, when they want to post a thread on the BOI, that forces the user to give exact and documented info, and then when it gets sent off to the owner/moderator, they can determine whether or not it fits the criteria for what the BOI was created for, let alone having the necessary actual info making it believable to begin with, and they can then either allow the thread to be started or not at all, at their discretion? The idea is implanting the necessary criteria for threads to be deemed as containing the proper information for a thread to even be started, while not any moderator/owner making any judgement on a particular situation but just trying to prevent wasted time and space.

It appears so many threads that, like I said, do not fit that criteria, are now being posted, and perhaps having someone, such as the owner or moderator, make the choice of whether or not a thread even gets posted, can prevent a lot of wasted time and energy put into threads that are useless? This idea is not dealing with the issue of free speech, but simply for the fact that the owner of this site, let alone any site, can do what they well please with what goes on their site.

Good or bad idea? Can of worms?

Just a thought? :shrug01:

I have read bad guy threads that convinced me to do business with the accused instead of its intended purpose of maligning his or her business.

It is our duty to read the BOI thread and form our own opinions and make educated judgements. I don't see "XX is a Bad Guy" in the thread title and then automatically take the OP at their word.

Anyhow, D&J sounds like a place I would like to visit in all reality. The fact that there are multiple reptile shops in one town makes me jealous. We have only one in OKC and it's excellent, but I prefer variety.

You really should have asked this in the "Fauna Feedback Forum", as you are throwing this thread off kilter.

To me this thread just seems as though the OP didn't get something that he wanted out of the store, (no pics to back up his story still), and posted a thread in retaliation.

If, (and I mean IF) OP actually posts pictures of said store in said condition, then maybe there's something to it. But as of right now, I am having a hard time swallowing the story.

Exactly!! Great words, and I can not agree more. Just thought maybe an initial form would cut down on some of the ones that are completely a waste of good internet space.

But yeah, I agree, and that is probably why it should stay the way it is.

Not to mention the fact that many "bad guy" threads serve to out the real bad guy. That being the person starting the thread. In this case for example I feel that D&J (or DNJ) has been exonerated and Jeff OConnor may in fact be the guy you might want to avoid doing business with. If you shoot yourself in the foot you end up with a sore foot but if you put your foot in your mouth first you may end up blowing your brains out.

Yep, I've read 'bad guy' posts in which the OP ended up being the person I'd want to avoid at all costs.

Also, they're not quite in the same town but close :) Same county. There are actually 3 reptile shops in Suffolk County, IIRC. It's definitely a perk of living here.

On the subject of the OP, Jeff O'Connor of Paramus, New Jersey... I could find no indication that a person of that name exists in that town that might fit the description of the OP. methinks Jeff O'Connor is a guise.

I can totally understand about the perception of being bias by deleting a thread. But in cases such as this, there was no transaction, the OP is likely using a fake identity and making unfound accusations, I don't think leaving a thread such as this serve much of a purpose. My two cents and I'll leave it at that:)

The purpose it serves is to let people know what kind of person the OP really is. The subject of this thread does not look bad because of it, but the OP surely does.

First of all its a new account not because its their store they like it. Second of all go take photos and show us I've been their many times and volunteered their and it was still an honor to work with josh and doug some of the best in the business. Third who are you you have no reputation

I know nothing about the store now, I haven't been there in literally years. But I will say, when they were in their old location, they did in fact have animals that were not necessarily legal to own under very generic names for sale. Granite python (burmese) and yellow snake (yellow anaconda) were a couple. They were also shut down because of selling "dangerous animals" or something like that at their old location.
I wouldn't say they were a bad store, but the illegal animals for sale made me think twice about ever taking the ride again. It was clean though, and with the exception of the expected wc animals (anoles etc.) the animals all looked nice.

Depends how many years ago we're talking. IIRC, I don't think Burms and such were made mostly illegal to own in NYS until like '05-'06 or so. I know they also have animals that are just for display and not sale. As for the closure of their old store, I have no idea what happened there so I can't really comment.

There should be a false claim button on the original thread heading. The problem is that some folks see a negative thread on BOI as just that and may never open it. By having some sort of a marker on the original heading(like the check and X we currently use), we could easily identify which claims have been reversed based on evidence with a quick glance.

I think USNHM242 has a good idea. Maybe there should be a some kind of indicator by the title to let people know its a false claim or maybe some kind of poll that shows the percentage of people that agree or disagree with a thread based off their personal experiences with that person. Also to remember just cause one person has a bad experience with a company doesnt mean everyone does. They could have been having an off day and mistakes happen... We are human.

Apparently you gentlemen don't think my earlier warning pertains to you. Such suggestions don't belong in this thread. I'll happily address them when they are posted in the proper area.

(btw - that was the last of the freebies)

Many threads continue for quite some time and each new post would need to be read and tallied. It would be a massive headache to determine whether a thread is 'reversed' and would require the judgment of a person reading the thread. There are those who would not agree with that judgment, what then? Would we need an entire jury to decide? Why not just read the thread and come to your own conclusion?
If people choose not to actually read a thread, that is their choice. If I was fixing to spend hard earned cash and had gone through the trouble of actually doing a BOI search, I certainly would read through the results either way, and I am thinking many others would as well.

Much of what is being suggested has been debated at length. The reasons why have been discussed and debated.

There are reasons why the very exact suggestions being made have been rejected. To find the answers all you have to do is search the feedback forum and read the posts. Let me give a example of reading a post since some seem to just skip over them.

This wasn't a suggestion. The appropriate place to discuss how the site functions is in the feedback section.

Keep the thread on topic please.

While you, Tom and Billy have good points about there should be something you can do about bs threads like this, my mindset is with Steve. I think whenever you have a thread that's started like this one, whether it's a personal beef or whatnot, I think it gives the "accused" a chance to show their true colors.

I think it's a great opportunity to see how people conduct themselves, then we can make an educated decision as to whether or not we want to deal with that person in the future. that goes for both sides of the fence. Just my opinion for what it's worth.

So, no takers on the pictures? I believe the OP fabricated his account but I would also like to see photographic evidence to the contrary of his claims for the sake of the accused Bad Guy. I think it would only further bolster the store's credibility.
