    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

So do everyone document breeding, egg laying & hatching info?
Here is what I use.

I think Excel is great. Last year I just used it to chart hatch dates, but I really like your system of recording breeding and laying.

All I do is mark what day the egg was laid/hatched/sex/parents on the tub I keep the baby in.

I havent documented anything yet. Maybe thats because theres nothing to document. I'm thankful I got the entire Microsoft Office Professional set for free so when it comes to be that time I'll be all set. If anyone wants me to send you office I'll do it free of charge. Stickin it to the man!

I guess I'm going to have to start doing something like that soon. So far, our collection has been small enough and things have been happening slowly enough that my sister and I just know that we bought such and such gecko from this person on this date and they were first placed with the male on such and such date. But I would imagine before the end of the season things will get much more hectic than that.

I use Open Office Spreadsheet to keep track of my tarantulas, and will probably do something similar with geckos. . . if I ever breed enough to need a spreadsheet to keep track.

With only two girls I most likely will be using the archaic system involving a ballpoint pen and paper. :>poke2<:

I mark the eggs with the date laid and use an index card once hatched for the other records for weights etc and enter it into herp care software a couple of times a month just as a backup. I had all of my cards get a soda spilt on them last summer and lost alot of info.

When the eggs are laid I mark them with the lay date and the parents. When they hatch they get their own AnimalID and I enter them into my web database. The database contains the weights, photos, and other information about the animal. My website then uses this information to display the animal information on my website automagically =).

I found combining the two make website maintanence a lot easier and backups are are simple as storing a text file somewhere.

I record each date of laying and hatching in my journal with a circle around the date for laying and a square for hatching. I list for each week how many weeks each clutch is. It makes the waiting easier and I love updating the next week each Sunday night. I have a word processing document for each pairing listing important info from laying through selling.

I get a new notebook every year...and sometimes a new pen! Maybe I'll upgrade one day, but I doubt it. For those of you that write on your eggs, what do you use? I mark mine with a sharpie just to keep them right side up, but I wouldn't want to write very much on them with a sharpie...I guess?
