In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Does anyone else despise winter?

Yeah, this week is going to be brutal for north Florida. Wind blew off some of the tarps last night, so hopefully those trees didn't sustain any damage. Low temp last night on the front porch was either 28 or 29.5 degrees, depending on whichever of the min/max temp sensors are accurate. They are both side by side in the same spot, so perhaps even one of them is actually accurate.

Thursday is looking like it is going to be the coldest night this week. Daytime high today barely got to 43 degrees. I know the rest of the country up north is experiencing much worse, but for us folks with "Florida blood" this is bad enough.

In case I haven't mentioned it before, I HATE cold weather!

LOL, It was 9 degrees when I took the kids to School. One of my Fords lost the water pump, another has charging issues and my shop is full of half built snake cages so I have to do repairs in my driveway. Oh and my Hot tub is out of commission so I can't even soak and get my joints freed up. I'm running a heater in my garage to keep my rats and mice warm. I've got tons of mice but I just can't get the damn rats to breed.

What's really bumming me out is that I have two burms waiting for warmer temps to be shipped in. One is coming in from Cali and the other from Wyoming. And with night time lows in the teens for the foreseeable future I'm not going to be seeing tracking numbers for a while.

That's another problem with the weather here too - no shipping for a couple months, at least. Our forecast for the week. On a positive note though, crime rates go down when it's this cold. No one wants to be out car-jacking, mugging, and shooting people in these temps!

Well, those kinds of temps would make it easy for the cops to get perps to stay put. Just haul them over to a metal railing or lamp post and stick their tongues to it. They WILL stay put unless they are willing to lose parts of their tongue!

Showing 29 degrees outside right now. We normally get about a half dozen or so nights around here in the Winter when temps will drop below freezing, but I cannot remember ever having a whole week straight of this kind of stuff.

This winter has not been to bad so far but it's far from over. We haven't had any snow to speak of and the temps haven't dipped below zero too often. So I'm not gonna grumble too loudly just yet.

On the other hand I just spotted another burm I need to add to my collection. So if I can raise the cash in time (This girl won't be on the market long) I'll have three out there waiting to be shipped.

It's a good thing I've started building my own cages...

I feel bad for anyone vacationing in Florida, or anywhere "warm". I'd be so bummed if I had saved up for a trip, bought airfare and hotel, only to show up for Michigan temps!

Yeah, I'm seeing that the golden finches finally arrived from up north to raid our bird feeders, and I'm guess that they are probably thinking they should have continued on further south this year.

Well one bright side to this. At least Connie and I aren't still living in Maryland and/or visiting Connie's family in Delaware... It looks like we would be getting snowed in today. :D

And my hate for winter deepens....

I now have 3 burms waiting at their respective breeders for temps to come up enough to get them shipped home. This is becoming an issue. It looks like I may have a window in a couple weeks when it will be warm enough to ship them.

If only the whackaloon global warming alarmist were right...

Since the onslaught of the bitterly cold weather I have become a cooking and baking fiend, with everything made from scratch.

Lasagna
Chocolate Cake
Banana Bread
French Toast Casserole
Beef Soup

Tonight is expected to be the coldest yet so I am doing a very slow-cook oven turkey using this recipe:

The house may be cold but I can at least make it smell good.

So do I have to print out this invite and show it at the door or am I just good to come over and graze?

Yeah, Connie made a real nice shrimp and crab meat (REAL shrimp and crab meat, not that crappy imported stuff) chowder that lasted several days and really hit the spot. Got us warmed up and ready to go out to cover the citrus each evening.

Supposed to just barely get to below the freezing point tonight, and then this upcoming week will be getting highs in the 70s. Now that is more like it!

So tomorrow we will be taking down the tarps, folding them up, and putting them into the shed till the next cold spell comes along. With any luck, that won't be till next Winter.

Come on over! We're supposed to warm up just to the point where we'll get a lovely ice storm on Monday though. I'd rather have bitterly cold but dry weather than wintry mix/freezing rain any day.

It's been a couple years since I've been over in your neck of the woods. Might be worth the drive.

Started out 48F today. By 1pm it was 24F with -2 windchill. Ice rain on the way home from work. Snowing heavy now and swirling with 30 plus mph winds. 6 to 8 inches tonight. Ugh!

Yeah, got some chilly weather coming in down here too. They modified it a bit today so the forecast doesn't look as bad as they were showing just yesterday, but we'll be covering the younger citrus trees, all the same. Ask me if I would be surprised that the national weather service's forecast would be dramatically wrong 12 hours in advance.....

I think a Tarot deck would probably work much better with those people.

Honestly, they must work in buildings without windows, because they can't even get the current observed weather correct, when all it would take is to look out a window to see what was going on.

Honestly, I love hearing people say with a straight face that they believe these people can accurately predict what "global warming" is going to do to the entire earth 100 years from now.

I finally got our chimney work finished this past September (after 2 and a half years...) and spent the last couple hundred dollars on materials to get the wood stove hooked up at the tail end of the last cold snap. Didn't have to use it last week with the 50-60 degree temps this week, but it was back in the teens all day and getting into the single digits again tonight. Sure is nice not having the furnace run all the time to keep the house warm! Honestly, I'm happier with the cold than the damned mud we had this week with those warm temps. 4 dogs + mud + carpet = annoying enough to not care if I have to warm up the car or wear a heavier jacket!
