    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Does anyone here know [email protected] if so can you please provide me with his real name and address. He burned me this past week with this Amazon Basin Emerald pictured.
He told me his name was John and that he was from Ohio but I can't believe a word this guy has told me. Any information you can provide would be helpful.

Forgive me for asking a stupid question, but I was kind of confused a little.

Are the 2 pictures supposed to be of the same snake, according to him? Is the one in the first picture alive? I know nothing about emeralds, so excuse the ignorance

I have never seen that name before, sorry I couldn't help. i just wanted to eb sue I understood the situation.

Hi Todd,

The first picture is of the now dead Amazon Basin Emerald Tree Boa the second picture is the picture I was e-mailed from [email protected].
Whatever his real name is he made arrangements to do the trade in person at my store and told me he drove 800 miles to come here. He come here I looked the snake over and being reluctant I still went through with the trade as I didn't want to be a jerk and tell him I didn't want to trade. He assured me the Amazon Basin is feeding fine and that he kept it to wet and the dermatitus and blisters would shed out. Being a nice guy I went ahead with the trade and contacted him while the snake was still alive and told him I wanted my animals back "2 Biak Green Tree Pythons"

His reply to me was:

Steve,

A trade is a trade. Especially ones that are done in person. That is why I drove 800 miles to do this deal. I let you look over the animal for as long as you wanted to and you agreed to the deal. Cmon here, you own a pet shop. If you cant pick out animals and stick by your own decision then hang it up!! That snake fed fine for me. You had several animals in your shop that were not feeding, two were emeralds lol. Maybe it is something you are doing. Again, that is why i drove 800 miles, so we could both look at the animals we were trading in person. This is not kmart. The biaks are already gone. Not to mention the amount of time that has passed. In the future, I suggest you make better business decisions if you are not happy with the ones you are currently making! I think anyone would agree with me as well. Good luck to you!!

To make a point on the way I do business, I have 2 good looking Emerald Tree Boas here that have not fed for me, I do not have them listed for sale as I would not unload something I would not want loaded on me and I even said that to [email protected] when he was here 8/17 Bottom line I eat my own losses and not try and lie to pass them off to someone else. I've been in business a very long time now and not by burning people with garbage.

How long after you took possession of the Amazon was that photo taken? If the snake looked anything like that when you got it, why did you follow through with the trade? I wouldn't have cared if the guy had driven 8,000 miles, there's no way I would have taken possession of an animal in that condition.

Unless you have something in writing between the 2 of you, I don't think you have any recourse.

Have you emailed him about the existence of this thread?
 
This has been a sad month for us arboreal keepers out there.. but.. we keep trudging throught it.

I hate to always play the bad guy.. but.. if possible, can you post the following dates:

-date the trade occurred
-date you contacted the seller asking for trade back
-date snake died

Honestly, without knowing your husbandry for that snake.. if you had the snake in your possesion to make the decision... you thought the snake was not in good condition.. but still went through with the deal.. to be polite... I don't see this as a situation you would win. I ran a store and in many cases had people drive many hours for a trade that I turned down. But... I had no hard feelings about.

Also, I never had any good luck with keeping emeralds in the store front. I seriously think the high amount of traffic in the store stressed the snakes out.

The trade occurred August 17th and I contacted him 6 days later August 23rd to ask about trading back and even offered to pay all shipping expenses or pay him to drive out here again.
Only a small amount of reptiles are on public display here at my store. The majority of my stock of reptiles is kept away from the public on the other side of my store where I don't allow the general public.
I have had many Emeralds in my time and I'm familiar with there husbandry. Anyone that has been here knows me or seen me at local shows can vouch for the quality of animals I offer; never will you see me offering such a pathetic animal. I was really hoping this Amazon Basin would fair well but it didn't.
The Amazon Basin died the very next day on the 27th, 7 days after the trade took place.
I should have turned down the trade even if it did bear hard feelings but I took into consideration the guy traveled so far. You live and you learn don’t you?
I know I'm not going to get jack out of whoever John really is but at least I can warn other people of his practices.

However, I also agree that Ben/John seems to be nothing more than a two-bit scammer who peddles diseased & dying animals.
 
I don't know either party. This is just my opinion:
If the trade is sight unseen, then it's a different story. However, if he came to your place (or vice versa) to do the trade in person, and you can check out his stuff as well as he does. Once the trade is conducted, and he stepped out of your store, deal is closed. I feel sorry for the snake.

Sorry Steve, thats a pretty big loss, atleast for me it would be. I guess you just have to be more considerate with your gut feeling on these things. The snake looks a little thin in the picture, did it feel thin enough to not have been eating at all? In other words, theres no chance it could have been eating for him? If it was, which I doubt, then maybe it could be over stressed from the problems it already had, on top of transporting, and recaging.

I personally think you shouldnt have let him come out if you would feel bad possibly sending him back.

However, things like that happen in this trade to everybody, and there isnt much we can do about it.

Well through e-mails and by the pictures he sent me the Basin looked and sounded ok. When he come here with the animal it was a little light but not light where it was much of a concern to me. I just thought why didn't he mention the blisters and dermatitus but anyway I thought a couple meals and a shed it would be fine. I've seen animals with blisters and dermatitus shed out and be fine and that's what I was hoping for. I'm thinking now this guy knew exactly what he was dumping on me especially after he told me I need to make better business decisions!
 
very true, there shouldnt have had to be any "good business" decisions if he knew the snake was going to come out of it.

I too have seen them over come such things, but im considering that once the snake came down with them, he stopped eating, and hasnt eaten for quite a bit. Though neither individual problem seems horrible, all of them together do.

We have blisters, dermititis, travel stress, new caging stress, possible not eating, maybe even anorexia.....all that definitely amounts to a problem. On that note, who knows what else there could have been?
