I come to you a kid, just another one who was upthrusted in to the herp world, and stumbled upon this website. This website, Faunaclassifieds.com, for all it's flaws, I believe is a prime example of how many intelligent people can come together and make something greatly beneficial for thousands of people - People just like them.

Though, that being said, I see these threads and wonder why we must do this. Why do we act like children fighting over the last piece of candy? Why must we act like we are in high school? (I spent half of my day trying to escape it, and here I am, in high school, on the internet!) Are we no better than this? Despite the post counts, the karma, the friends, the pictures, the herps, the coins, the age, we still find a way to come down to the almost mockingly sad level of drama rich, shallow, egotistical teen queen "Adults".

And here I am, a 15 year old, shaking my head as I read these back and forth pissing matches. Dear Fauna users, are we no better than this? Arguments on forums are inevitable. When you put so many egos in a tight space it's like putting two rabid dogs in a box. Curiously enough, I think it's laughable we fight like them too. Can't we argue like the somewhat civilized? Can't we just suck up and own up to our mistakes? Can't we resist the drug of drama? Why is it that we feel the need, once ignoring all of the above, drag other people in?

I do not post much because I know that a young man like myself does not have much say in a website owned by breeders who have years of experience in this world. The audacity of me, so young, to lecture people twice and triple my age on how they are wrong and how they need to learn to just accept, live, learn, and move on. I am not here posting to tell you not to argue. Debates are how I learn. By all means, debate away. But can we please just act like that 2 digit number by our name?

I made a choice to display my age when I joined because I am not afraid of ignorance so common with people. Maybe I am wrong. Maybe you are right. After all, it takes two extremes to find an answer. I just want to remind you very intelligent men and women, that name calling do not solve things. Drama does not solve things. Mud slinging does not solve things. Many threads far too recent in this forum DO NOT SOLVE THINGS.

I ask you, fellow users: Is any of this worth it?

But hey - I am just rambling. What do I know? Continue on with this thread. It does exactly it's purpose -

I will not let them run with those actions, I have set back and watched until the time was right to bring this to light. All one need do is read past posts by the one in question, then the true reason they are here will be seen. They shoved their own foot down their own throat, I just helped them swallow it.

I hate trolls as much as the next person. Trust me, I've delt with them first hand experience. It is not fun, especially on Fauna, where trolls don't get flat out banned right away (Not that this is a bad thing)

What I do suggest, however, is to not give them the attention they strive for. By all means, make their life on here miserable, but what you feel is miserable to them might actually be laughable at best in their eyes. Argue away. I just hate this side taking. This is not a football game. I hate the name calling and mud slinging. This isn't prom. If you are to out a troll, then out him, but do not make yourself look like one in the process, or make yourself look stupid trying to bully someone with a different opinion. Keep an open mind, that's all. Just think before you type. I believe some people on here get so worked up they type something dumb and look - Now they are the troll, people are yelling at them Bam, you did just what the troll wanted.

The quickest draw isn't always the smartest one. Sure, expose people for what you believe they truly are, as that is what a main portion of this site is for, is it not? But when you dedicate thread after thread to beating a dead horse - Who really is the troll?

Just be civil and smart, that's all.

Curtis, I know who you are, you are also one of my favorite people on theTegu, you know this. I think you have a dang good head on your shoulders, as well as one of the best young people I know of. It is not so easy to sit back and watch them run a muck, attack friends and act like they are all that and a box of popcorn.

You are very astute for your age.
Here is my take on this whole thing. Sometimes you have to let things go. Sometimes it requires you going to a level that you do not want to go to (or sometimes it is just a matter of wanting to play in that area for a bit ) for people to get it. Tit for tat.

The only thing I did not agree with is that there are a lot of people in a tiny space. This is a big space, some just chose to only post in a corner of this vast area called fauna. It is these instances where I have a problem. There are times I stay quiet sometimes I do not, it changes with my mood. Never anymore do I let anyone get to me. I prefer to debate the good debate and argue with words of truth and use of the other persons words against them. For me that works and hits home better then name calling or bullying.

I am no saint and never have claimed to be. I pick and chose my battles, but there are times when I just like to play in the mud. I, like you, like a happy medium but there are times...
Perhaps when you get to my age you will see that in the world, like in fauna, like anywhere there will never be a happy medium. There are just too many different personalities that express what they want to get across differently and have different views and takes on specific subjects.

I have seen this side that you are talking about, I have also seen people agreeing to disagree and people burying the hatchet. I admire many people on here, a few I tolerate, and very few I just do not like much You young man is one to admire and respect. Those are two things I do not give out easily. (not that it matters to you if I respect you or not, lol) I hope to see you all around here posting, you can give a lot to this site.

Curtis, let me give you another take on things.

Sometimes you just have to take a stand and make a difference. Here it's somewhat difficult because even though there are rules, there is no way to enforce them consistently. Too many people who see things too differently. Then you have to factor in the personal factor.

The personal factor is what YOU think of someone else and what YOU are willing to do for or to that person. It's REALLY hard for most folks to come down on a friend, the natural inclination is to let things slide or give them slack. The personal factor makes it real easy to come down hard on those you do not like just because you do not like them.

There are some here who strive to treat everyone the same, whether they are liked or not Some of those making this effort succeed but, and this is through no fault of their own as their efforts are genuine, they often fail. It's human nature. It's because of that failure that you see so much crap here on this site.

People KNOW that something should be done about known trolls. People also don't want to be the ONE to say so. Many will go along if someone else does AS LONG AS THAT SOMEONE IS KNOWN FOR BEING FAIR. There are maybe 6 or 8 who will call a spade a spade even if that spade is a close and personal friend. Some of those 6 or 8 just don't always want to be the ones making those calls. It's not easy putting what you believe on the line and it's even harder being honest with those who think you'll cut them slack because they'd cut you slack.

You are a bright kid, very bright, but you are sorely lacking in interpersonal experience. I believe I've mentioned this to you before. You simply haven't had time to see how people work, the subtle manipulations that are not even apparent all the time, the ulterior motives, the subtle deceits, the outright lies and the few who strive to be totally honest but are misunderstood because they don't play the games others do.

If no one called out anyone, everyplace would be over run with guys like sludge and shrilly and sometimes the only way to make them leave is to be so consistently unpleasant, to be mean enough, to take so little crap from them, that they get frustrated and leave. It's not only a tough call to make, one many won't make at all, but it's tough to carry out.

You can't be nice one day and hand them their ass the next as that sends mixed signals, you have to be consistent and to be honestly consistant you have to believe what you are doing is not only right, but the best for all concerned and that takes some serious confidence in your own abilities and judgement.

It also helps if you can express yourself in the written medium well enough that there is no mistake what you mean. Even I have problems with that on occasion.

There is no way we will all just get along. There are folks I, just me, simply will NOT tolerate having to deal with. In real life it's the same. There are those I won't shake hands with, share a drink with, hell there are some folks I won't even acknowledge the existence of when they are right in front of me because I find time totally unacceptable as people and will not have anything to do with them. The same is true online, if you can, you should take a stance and say ,"this is unacceptable and I will not tolerate it." It's not always easy. It's frequently misunderstood and many will disagree with you and THEN get mad at you for not capitulating to what they think is right which opens up the whole agree to disagree because basically you're a good guy dilemma.

It generally, this ability and willingness to say what you feel, comes with age and experience. Watch and learn. Guys like Shrap and JimO and Griz and Dennis Hultman, Bobby Hill and Dennis Thomas are excellent examples of what good guys should and often do, do. I'm not saying that you should be exactly like them, but take bits and pieces that feel comfortable to you and try to incorporate them into your life so that you can someday be one of the known good guys. There are simply not enough of them out there.
