In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Donations icon for contributors to this site.

Since I am facing some legal expenses from the arbitration (already spent!) and now the lawsuit from Jeff Barringer, I have decided to institute a special icon as a way of publicly thanking those people who are donating to help me in this fight.

Not only can I really use the money that has become yet another expense in maintaining this site, but I think a public show of force by the number of people proudly sporting the "contributor" icon would be an interesting visual notice of people's opinion in this matter.

It is not mandatory, of course, but is appreciated more than you will probably ever know.

Thanks.

BTW, for those who contribute, please let me know your logon name here so I can set up that icon for you. I have some members who have contributed that I cannot figure out their logon name.

Tad - the easiest way would be to click on the "Make a donation" link that is in the lower section of the right hand column on every page. White box with black lettering in it.

Otherwise, PayPal to [email protected] will work just fine. If that doesn't work for anyone, just email me and I'll see what I can do to assist you in helping me out.

Thanks.

ps. I am looking for a different ICON for the donation image. Anyone willing to work one up for me? Something appropriate to this site and the situation at hand.

Rich, I'll make you an icon... just tell me how many pixels it should be, and I'll try to make a real spiffy one. :) Least I can do.

here's a 50x50 pixel one (might be 52 x 52) Just a bleary eyed effort first thing in the morning

Or here's a smaller one, I think it's 21 x 21 pixels. Again, this is my blurry eyed morning attempt with no real ideas in my head. :)

Thank You

Rich, thanks for the recognition. I was surprised to see the contributor icon there this morning. I'm proud to help out and be a part of this site.

I dont think its a good idea

to advertise support for any legal issues between two domain litigants. I personally would prefer to offer support if I decide to do so and maintain my anonimity. Just my opinion. What I would favour would be for interested parties to advertise on Fauna. That to me is much more productive for the site and certainly shows support in your own way. That is what I have done, and I hope others follow. JERRY

I'm sure Rich would keep donations anonymous if the contributor wished to keep it that way.

Meaning of Contributor

Jerry,

I chose to make a donation to this website to help Rich out with the overall costs of running the site. I did so not for personal status or to take sides on legal issues but just simply to help maintain the site. I voluntarily made my contibution weeks ago with no solicitation from Rich. Personally, I think everyone who chooses to take advantage of using the BOI, buys or sells animals posted here, should reach into their own pockets and do the same. In supporting Rich I am not out to make some kind of political statement against the other player. I merely feel an obligation to do so because I value Fauna and would surely miss it if it were gone. So anyone else that feels the same way it's high time you pony up a donation.

Just a thought...

Put this together rather quickly, but it was just a thought I had. Of course, the needed size is unknown so that could be reduced.

You could have levels of contributors.

Level 1
FaunaCoin1.gif

Level 2
FaunaCoin2.gif

Level 3
FaunaCoin3.gif

This way, people could contribute based on their ability and those contributing more, get recognized.

Hope it helps,

GREG, i basically did the same thing

and like yourself it was done prior to the difficulties that are presently plague-ing Rich with this legal nonesense.

Insofar as the other post by Troy, i dont think thats a good idea at all. If you want to contribute fine, but we dont need to know that one person gave more than another. You do what you can, if you can, and when you can. I dont need a recognition icon, and I dont like the idea.

again, just a thought...

I threw that out there as an idea. Level of contribution is common. I actually didn't think of using the levels like that until I had finished the single coin icon. Then it came to me.

Having said that, I myself am not looking for any recognition at all for contributing. But Rich had asked for some thoughts and it seemed as though if he was going to point his contributors out, to the forum by way of an icon, why not also point out who has contributed more than me. Some people might even be encouraged to reach that next level wich in turn, supports the site even more.

I have run "free sites" myself in the past. And I tried this very thing. My biggest contributors wanted a higher level of recognition than the person who donated a couple bucks.

Troy - hey I like your design! But I don't believe the system my programmer implemented utilizes multiple levels of the amount of the donation.

As for the issue of public display of this notice, I think a public show of hands here for those people willing to help me foot the bills is a reasonable gesture of appreciation. It does not necessarily have to indicate their position either way concerning the expenses I am facing from the lawsuit, but it certainly can be considered as a relative indication of those people who are concerned that this site remain alive. Most people already know that the advertisers are supporters and their ad payments are considered as donations to help pay the bills. And I would not be opposed to putting this icon in place for everyone who is already an advertiser here.

Further, this contribution program is based on a yearly schedule. The donation icon will disappear 1 year from the date that a donation is made. I figure that my expenses are continual, so I wanted a system that would encourage people to help out with these never ending expenses.

Kelli - yes, if I can find the notices of people whom have contributed since January 1, 2004, I will go ahead and set up this icon for them as well. But as you can imagine, I have a lot on my mind right now, and will have to ask for those people to take the initiative to contact me about it.

Thanks.

TROY, thats the problem, the larger contributor

I guess needs that ego boost as compared to the guy as you say who only gives a couple of bucks.

The bottom line is simple. Their are many ways to promote this site and help Rich without a donation. These people should not be pressured because they dont have an icon next to their name. Secondly, their are those who cannot afford it, and their are those who dont feel they want to participate.

As ive indicated in my earlier posts, I dont need an icon nor do I want anyone knowing my feelings on a situation such as this kingsnake mess. I find that my banner ad provides the necessary help to maintain the site, even if my hits are negligible, its my way of supporting Rich and Fauna. In return, I am sure Rich is pleased with all the advertisers who continue to come back and support the site. Its a tribute to him and what he is doing.

so Troy, i understand your intentions are good, but i think it would be disturbing to know that so and so gave more or gave less by the # of icons by his name. Lets keep donations or anything you want to do to help Rich, PRIVATE. Its the honorable way!

I think having an icon showing supporters is a good idea. Kinda something to be proud of. I also liked the idea of the different contribution levels but I guess that's not possible? Anyway my question is this.... How much? I don't know what's appropriate. I understand the whole concept of give what you can and whatever you feel is right but I don't even know where to start. Perhaps those who have already given could e-mail me and point me in the right direction. Thanks. -Chris

New Icon

I like Troy's icon but I'd like to see a bust of Julius Ceaser or "In Rich We Trust", or better yet a cornsnake eating a kingsnake. Just a suggestion LOL.

Most people already know that the advertisers are supporters and their ad payments are considered as donations to help pay the bills. And I would not be opposed to putting this icon in place for everyone who is already an advertiser here.

They do get a choice right?
Because I live most of my life in a double standard.
When I see the Icon on other people.....I think "cool. there is another supporter who believes in this site"
I think they are saying "I support this site....you should to"

But when I see the icon on my name......
I think that people might think "there he is saying I gave money so buy from me"
I mean it would be fine if I had nothing to sell. But because I have something to sell and something to gain..........well.......I feel like, if I have it there it is just another, "classified ad/banner".

But that is just me. I see it differently on other people.

I am now blabbing. I hope you understand what I am saying better than I am saying it.

But then again RitchieReptiles IS different from Ritchie Luna.
One is a breeder business wanna be. The other is a ferret.
