• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

  • IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ!! About the Google Adsense ads being displayed

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Donnaturtles

SAD

It's so bizarre that a scammer would pick two of the rarest turtles in the world (and put the wrong Latin name on one of them) to try to scam turtle people. We know where these amazing turtles are located around the world and they certainly aren't at "Donna's Turtles" in Wichita, Kansas.

and the email response I received:

"Donna Rickard

to me
it is 7500GBP for the trifasciata trio and 7000GBP for the aurocapitata pair.

Cheers"

someone in Kansas, with an AZ IP, asking for GBP? Funny.

Whoa!!!!

Language.

I get that you're upset, but that's just not cool. Kids read this site. As well as adults who don't appreciate that.

I very, VERY rarely will delete threads from the BOI, but I am SERIOUSLY considering removing this one just because of the profanity.

Seriously people. Please take your obvious show of lack of upbringing and maturity somewhere else. It just is not welcome here.
:NoNo:

And from that point onwards, every time some bad guy gets called out and caught, he in tandem with a friend or two, made up or real, will put on a show of profanity in the hopes that the thread about him will get taken down.

Is there any way a simple "censored" sign can just be slapped over those words?

I agree that this scammer might indeed be worthy of such intense feelings, and the general public might need to be informed that there is an active scam out there. However I do not feel those words should be allowed to remain.

Just my 0.02

I think the mods are smart enough to figure out what is going on, don't you? Anyone obviously trying to derail a thread in that manner will have their participation on this site very short lived. And yes, in an obvious case of attempted derailment, I have no qualms whatsoever of deleting individual posts instead of the entire thread.

Unfortunately, in this case, it is the thread STARTER that is the problem. Deleting the first post in a thread, where profanity is located, deletes the entire thread, so not quite so easily managed as simply deleting replies.

So don't delete the post, just modify out the cuss word in the post. Or put an automatic word filter on the forum?

I was going to avoid responding here, as this is off topic; but we don't edit posts in that manner. We either remove the content entirely (and replace it with a moderation comment), or we leave it. Obviously, due to the nature of the BOI, we generally leave it...the main exception being violations of the full name rule; and that is left to the discretion of the moderator(s).
