In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I lost my Isabelle yesterday. I can't begin to tell you how heartbroken I am. I took her outside for a bask in the sun. It was 99 degrees outside. I put her in a cardboard box with a screen cover. Thought she would be fine......WRONG. I went in the house and folded some laundry (about 30 mins). Went outside to check on her, she had her mouth open as they sometimes do to cool off, but she was ok (so I thought). I went in the house to chop her greens. Came back outside to bring her in and feed her.........she had parished !!! I KILLED MY DRAGON !!!! (apparently overheated) I feel like such an idiot. I have done so much research online to take good care of her, asked questions, so on and so forth....then to lose her to something so stupid that could have been prevented. I talked with the guy that I bought her from, he said this happens a lot even though it is something that can be avoided. DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU. DON'T ASSUME THEY WILL BE OK FOR JUST A FEW MINUTES. DON'T LEAVE THEM UNATTENDED EVEN FOR A FEW MINUTES.........
DON'T LOSE YOUR BABY THE WAY I LOST MINE !!!

aw :(
Sorry for your loss Doreen. I'm always with my babies when they're outside, and take a misting bottle with me, to help keep them cool.

What you did was a innocent mistake. What happened is there is a very distinct difference between ambient temps (air temp) and surface temps. I have no way of knowing what the surface temps were but look at it this way. If it is say 110 outside air temp you can basically fry an egg on the concrete.

Sorry for your loss.

Did she have a shady spot?

I use big pieces of foamboard for shade, I use sterilite tubs and I just place the foamboard on top

Sorry for the loss

Thank you all so much for your support. I really debated on whether to even post about what happened because I feel like a complete idiot, but at the same time, as Brian said "it was an innocent mistake" (a special thank you to you Brian for saying that) You saying that made me feel like a worth while human being again :) I thought for sure someone would say something to tell me what an idiot I was, but I figured if I can help even one dragon owner from making the same mistake, it was worth going on here and opening my heart.

So sorry for your lost and the courage to post to warn others. Accidents happen so don’t beat yourself up.

Thank you craig for your support, it is much appreciated. Hey.....I love the profile picture of the "kiss pandas" I use to be a kiss freak myself back in the day :)

Sorry to hear of your loss Doreen. It happens more than most of us realize. I was concerned about this a couple of weeks ago when I had several of my dragons out to sun so I decided to take my temp gun out and measure surface temps in the Sterilite containers. The air temp was around 90f and the surface temp was 160f!! I couldnt believe it but I had never really stopped to think about just how hot it was. Take that temp and the fact that the air is not circulating down in the container very much and you can start to see a dangerous situation. I had half of the containers covered for shade but I dont think that is enough. Besides, whats the point if they arent going to spend time in actual sunlight right? The full screen enclosures work real well and they also prevent lightning bugs from getting in.

Doreen I have to say, not only are you not an idiot for posting, but i think you do us all a favor by posting a tough situation most would keep quiet to save face. I hope and am sure that this post will save many dragons from this innocent mistake happening to them. So thank you for being brave!!

Thank you for the kind words Jeremy. I hope it helps others......that was my hope. I would not wish what happened to me on anyone......it was one of the most horrible things I have ever experienced. Nicole...........please be very careful. Remember, there is a reason we have a basking side and a cooler side to their set up. I assumed Isabelle would be fine without any shade (thinking about her being a desert dweller) Just don't ASSUME, that is what got me, or should I say Isabelle, in trouble.

Thanks for the posting and the heads up. I swear that I read some where that they dont have to be in direct sun light to get the effects of the UVB i wish i could remember where

I am so sorry you lost Isabelle but you were trying to do something nice for her. When I take my dragons outside I use a 100 metal horse water trough and put a board over one side so it will always be shady on half of it. Like others have said it is a good idea to stay out with them..I hope you find it in your heart to give your love to another Pogona Pal soon.

Thank you for the kind words Cindy Lynn. I did get another dragon. In no way will he replace Isabelle, but he is finding a new spot in my heart:D His name is Humphrey. If you look under the thread here's Humphrey, you can see his picture.
