In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have some driftwood that was in with a different lizard I wanted to know if it was safe to use with my bearded dragon I am getting. I cleaned out the enclosure with bleach but I am not sure if just baking the wood in the oven would be enough to make sure theres nothing to catch. The pieces of driftwood are really nice and I hate to lose them. But my dragon is more important. If anyone knows or has any suggestions I would appreciate the help.
Thanks,
Brenda

We get our driftwood from the Ohio river in Louisville Ky, we usually just soak it in our bathtub in HOT water with BLEACH in it, the hot water will kill any bacteria but the bleach helps assist it and gets anything that leftbehind from the hot water. Just put your pieces in HOT belach water and let them soak ALL day. Then after they r done soaking rinse them off reall good with warm water, then just rinse them off with warm water and let them sit outside in the air to dry themselves out. 100% clean and good to use!

I do the same, but i use healthy habitat. I avoid using bleach with my animals. Also, baking works well too. I use all kinds of brick, rock and branches from outside

Whats healthy habitat? I didn't think you could put the driftwood in the oven for that long. I was told for only a few minutes in the oven would be good. Anything more might start burning the wood.

If I use bleach in my tub it won't mess up the color will it. I have that plastic stuff or what ever you call it. I do not have a ceramic tub.

lol no it wont..more liek make it whiter! We live in an apartment and our tub was nasty looking when we moved in, after we moved our lizards in their new bigger tanks we decided to remodel their tanks to and got new wood and everything! We bleached the wood out in our bathtub for a whole day and our tub was much mopre whiter...it kinda kills 2 birds with one stone, disinfects your wood but also cleans your bathtub for you! :)

just remember WHEN USING THE BLEACH RINSE THE WOOD OFF WITH WARM WATER (or if you can stand scolding hot water like me on your hands use HOT) TO RINSE OFF THE WOOD SO THERE IS NO BLEACH SMELL OR TRACES OF IT ON THE WOOD IN CASE YOUR BEARDIE LICKS THEIR WOOD, ours seem to do that ocassionlly ( weird I know) BUT RINSE THEM WELL AND LET THEM DRY OUTSIDE ( the sun will actually deteriorate the bleach off the logs if its hot enough outside...) we learned that from a website ( cant rememeber quite what it was but they said this..) so just MAKE SURE YOU RINSE THEM VERY WELL

an hour at 350 will start to singe, if not set fire to it! i just put them in at 325-350 for 15 minutes or so. Healthy habitat is a kind of disinfectant that doesn't have the harmful fumes of bleach, you can find it at many online stores like reptiledirect.com

I was in a hurry to get the driftwood outside it the sun because I heard it was going to rain and I forgot to rinse the driftwood. Will it still be ok to rinse in hot water after and get the bleach out of the wood. It's been rainy and cooler here for a couple of days and its going to take awhile for it to dry out. :dunce:

It should be fine to rinse it after it dries. You'll just have to make sure to get the film that dried on the wood off while you rinse it. Use a little scrub brush and it should be fine.

Good luck,
