In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

undefinedSigh... I've asked this question on other BBs and no one ever really answers me. It's dumb, I know, but I just don't know. How do you start handling a crested gecko?

I have a baby crested that I hatched. I gave it's parents away because they were jumpy and freaky and I couldn't handle them and I thought they'd have a better life with someone who could. So now I have this baby- 2 months old- and I want to start getting it used to being handled. Everyday I put my hand in its little container and hold the log it sits inside of. I'm afraid to take it out because it might get scared and jump away from me and get lost. How do other people do this?

What you could do is keep your hand in there while it sits on your hand. With the little ones like that I try not to grab, scoop them up then keep one hand in front so it can jump but stay on one of your hands, continue the cycle. Or you could keep a "wall" around them by cupping your hand in front of them whichever direction they are facing. If the gecko does jump off of you, make sure you dont grab. They arent as fast as some species either, so you would be able to catch it. They get comfortable pretty quickly, and unlike some species you can have them out a little while.
Hope that helps! :)

I will put my finger under their head and get them to crawl on it or jump on it. They are somewhat flighty but don't panic they are usually pretty easy to get if they jump off of you (stay in the middle of the room sitting down). They will usually start to calm down after awhile. A lot of beginning holding is more like just redirecting them to boing where you want them to by keeping your hand in front of their heads (like was mentioned walling them off).

Thanks!

Thanks Otter & Dragon!

I took a deep breath and tried it and it was fine! I don't know why I was so freaked out!

I really thought 'hey thats cool' when I first saw one jump. :)

You just have to get used to them, then you can tell when they are about to jump a little easier.

I laughed my butt off when mine decided to jump and land square between my eyes. LOL
