In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

All fat and healthy-feeding great on worms, crickets, and fruits-mostly red/orange colored items. We have several pairs available-starting at 200.00 shipped and more for the higher quality males matched with the largest highest quality females. Contact Trey asap for these-we move them out FAST! People like you are the reason wild box turtles are in danger

Wild caught box turtles such as yours should be left in the wild. They have a home range and when removed will search in vain for thier home terrotory. They are not happy in enclosures and usually die within thier first year. :bawling:

You are so kowledgeable on the subject-tell me how I am still buying babies twice a year from people I sold pairs too 3+ years ago. I guess deceased animals reproduce well in captivity. Your opinions are your opinions-take them to the BOI or call me with them.

Hey Trey,
The pair i got from you are doing awesome and breeding like crazy. I guess they could breed themselves to death in the first yr. :)

All I am saying is that if you remove wild box turtles from the wild at that rate there won't be any wild box turtle population left. There are enough CB boxies around that you don't need to disturb the wild ones. This is why the population is declining in many states. It's called coservation.

Yeah, people need to stop buying WC turtles, You can find alomost any adult box turtle thats been captured and adopt it, instead of buying, if people would just stop taking out of the wild, they the "box turtle" might acctually be around in 20 years.

A worldly scholar huh? If you have a problem with people getting turtles from out of the wild-then what are you stating with your argument above? If an adult turtle is adopted, is it not first taken out of the wild? If it is put up for adoption, is it not first neglected? As I have stated many times, we do not hunt for box turtles. We find them crossing roads and we pick them up. Other people find them crossing roads and bring them to us. If you people would come to our state and see the amount of dead box turtles on the highways you would be picking them up too. Let's be a little open minded here. Until selling box turtles is against the law in my state-I will continue to do so for the welfare of the turtles. I believe I have more people on my side of the issue-if this is going to be a long drawn-out argument, just post on the BOI and let me know.
God Bless

I don't know about where you live but box turtles aren't going to survive much longer in my area due to habit loss. I just went to one of my favorite spots and it is almost completely developed into subdivisions now. I'm sure that is the case almost everywhere so I don't see a problem with potentially DOR turtles being collected for breeding purposes. If you collect some adults to breed selling the babies takes stress of wild populations collected for the pet trade and nine times out of ten people will take captive bred over wild caughts. If I could find cb easterns I would buy them in a heartbeat. If you know anybody selling cb easterns let me know. Chris

I agree. People need to realize that the excuse: "human overcollecting is demenishing to wild populations of turtles" is just a load of crap that the state's Department of Natural Resources (or whatever else they call themselves) uses to cover its tail. Last year, in West Ashley, South Carolina-near Charleston, they- as in the SCDNR, somehow ok-ed the destruction of probably a 2 football field sized area of black bog swampland to stick in a Wal-Mart. In this area-we found many species of rare orchids supposedly protected by our state as well as untouched animal life. When we told our state about this-it is like it went in one ear and out the other. When an area is destructed for the purpose of building, they put up what is called a drift fence-which is nothing more than a black plastic-fabric fence whch keepsn rain from washing away trash and debris. What this also does is keeps the animals out or in---when a box turtle encounters one of these fences, it can either go left or right. Ultimately, every drift fence leads to a road which is where the turtles end up. If you could have seen the amount of dead turtles as a result of their habitat being COMPLETELY destroyed, you would start picking them up as well. For every one who thinks a turtle in captivity will not survive outside of its natural habitat, I ask you this: What if their habitat is destroyed? What if their feeding and breeding grounds are now under isle 7 of a Wal-Mart? Do you still think they should be left on the roads? Well, we moved them, all of them we found alive. They are now in an area surrounded by fast water that contains a woodland, a swamp, and open fields full of life, food, everything they need. Not quite as large as the area that was destroyed, but large enough to keep them happy and protected from any cars. Me and a buddy of mine between the two of us saved more turtles from that one area OFF OF THE ROADS ONLY than I care to disclose which is more than the DNR has ever done or probably will ever do. So please, do not talk to me like I have an aim to destroy populations of turtles. Not until you have walked in my shoes.

Well this is what im against, because there are many people who do hunt for turtles and thats what im mostly against, im am not against habitat lost, and or people who save the turtles, but the people who just take them out of the wild just because they are in the wild and they dont fight back, thats what i really ment, i was not siting anyone out, but just letting people who do live where box turtles are free roaming to not take them out of the wild, unless they are really endangered.

Bill Allens a.k.a. Kyle Mill...is there something in the fauna guidelines that prevents people from posting under false names? Just curious---
Trey

Yeah, acctually there is, lol, but hey what can i say old account did not really want to make a new one, so instead i just put my email address, and people who email me know me by my name, but since Trey everone wants me to make a new account i guess i will have to make a new account so Trey is a happy camper,

question

if those turtles were captive breed... where is the problem..??
Those CB turtles don't have nothing to do with wild ones... if the guy would be offering wild collected... that could be other case... but if he is breeding them I don't see any problem

that is my opinion

Trey it's Keith, umm well I guess you can tell the people inquiring about the wild populations to call me aswell because of all the turtles I give you 100 percent of them are from areas being developed for things like Walmart and Lowes. To prove that this kills the turtle populations I placed transmitters on 2 dozen turtles last year and this year found the strongest signals from underneath the parking lot of the new walmart in Charleston. The only way we can conserve any population of any species is for the most destructive species Homo sapien to stop breeding and needing to buy things from Walmart and Lowes. Tell that guy to take up his issues with those corporations that actually hurt the box turtle populations.

well if u think about it all of the turtle that u buy are really wild turtles becasue they didnt start out in peoples hands people put them in there so really ucant yell at them for taking the turtles u can only yell at them for taking too many. BTW i have 1 eastern boxie that some1 of my family friends got him off the road after 2 cars swerved to not hit him and my family friend person went and picked him and i have him in a nice place outside where he eats regularly an never showed signs of being skiddish or sick yet. so just take what i said into consideration. thanks

It all depends really does, if the place is developing and the turtle is in harms way, it might be better to pick them up, But for people who are intrested in buying them, It would be better if you keep them outdoors, Wild cought can have problems living indoors, or moving indoors not saying its impossible, just saying it would be easier if you kept them outdoors.

Give the guy a break, bottom line is he cares about the turtles.

After reading these posts it does begin to make you think. Here in NJ it is illegal to catch boxies. They (the powers that be) say people removing them from their natural habitats are the reason for the demise of the species (and as the owner of a few CB's, I do agree. As turtles routinely live for decades, once the novelty wears off, most of these turtles are probably doomed).

Anyway, the above may be true in a stabile 'natural habitat', but as one who spent much time in Southern NJ, much of the habitat that I grew up with has now become houses, Kmart, Walmarts's etc, and what is left, as anyone in NJ knows, is rapidly being depleted.

I'm sure there are acres and acres of Pine Barrens left out there, but if they are going to have laws protecting the species, doesn't it make sense to inlcude new development. Or does the care factor only kick in when money is not involved?

Just my 2 cents.

Box Turtles Habitat Destruction And Wc For Sale!!!!

Hey TREY this is Carlos. I bought the star pair from you. Just wanted to give my 2 cents worth on this subject. First of all, people come to this site to buy animals not criticize how they were aquired. I currently live in Louisiana where the box turtle was hunted for food, and it shows here! I have also lived in Kentucky and North Carolona, where in most places box turtles are thicker than people! I am in my 30's now and I see as many box turtles in those areas on the road after a rain as i did when i was a kid. Catching and keeping a box turtle that is crossing the road, which some people swerve to hit on purpose is not killing out the species, one should consider pollution and habitat destruction. Due to the amount of Wild Caught Boxies in captivity, there is an abundance of Box Turtle Babies"CB" for people to purchase. If you want to protect box turtles and other fauna stop driving your cars, and shopping at businesses! However we know this is not feasible, so over time populations will continue to decrease, however in areas that are not developed and pollution is not rampant box turtles and other species will continue to thrive. The problem isnt people on here selling them, it is our civilazation growing and running out of space. :scatter: One more point is with more and more people giving box turtles good homes, and universities, our kids grow up to have a better appreciation and outlook on species such as the box turtle. I have yet to see decline in any unpopulated area that is free of pollution. Also do people understand how seclusive a box turtle is? Alot of their time is spent burrowed with only their head sticking out of the ground! Babies stay under the leaf litter and thick vegitation, you could search an acrea over for 20 days and might not find a single box turtle, yet they might be 10 living there! I have a beautiful outside box turtle garden and they are happy , they do not have to struggle for food, or worry about predators, they will not be hit by a car! Seems like a pretty good life to me!

Grrrrr Walmart!

transmitters transmitting from under a walmart parking lot?
is that for real?
that breaks my heart, and really really pissed me off! :hot:
