In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

This male emerged on Sat, and didn't waste anytime. This was taken on Sunday.

Male turtles are such horny buggers! 3 out of the 4 of my box turtles came out of hibernation yesterday.

I have questions about the law. I'm in pa have a hard time understand what laws mean what. If I had some could I not sell them also, I don't understand as long as they were not wild caught. Sorry for my ignorance, I'm more of a snake guy & know little besides how to care for little turtles.

I agree the laws are sometimes not very clear. I found this out on the web:

There is actually a NC "Turtle Law" and it is SB 825 from 2003. It states that you cannot have more than 4 turtles from the families of Emydidae and Trionychidae. It also states that it is prohibited for "commercial taking" however it defines commercial taking as: "the taking, possession, collection, transportation, purchase or sale of five or more individual turtles or terrapins from either of the two families of reptiles described in this section." So basically you can only have 4 turtles (by my interpritation its 4 per person) from the two families and so as long as you are not over that then you are good. The SB 825 "Turtle Law" can be found by googling it or on the NC Wildlife site. Now the EBT is a part of that list however it is no longer on the protected species of NC list as of the November 08 list.

I'm going to have to read up more on my locations laws. I personally like the snakes but have 2 small small box turtles I help my son with. Shane keep me posted on how yours are doing & if you have any advise or suggestions I'm always up to learn something new. I checked out your snakes on your website, beautiful collection you have.

Thank you. I hope your laws are easier to find. But with a few searches, you should find something. I too am a snake guy, but I really dig my box turtles. How long have you had the two you have?

only about a month so far but they are doing good. Just put in some crickets with them & they are going nuts over them, its fun to watch. They seem to like the live food a lot better then the fruits etc

Chris - The laws in PA were changed around 2007. As of now, you can not keep, buy, or sell Eastern Box Turtles, regardless of the source.

Prior to this change, you could keep two WC per household member, you could sell them so long as they were CB from animals that could not be traced back to WC animals from PA, and you could buy from CB breeders in other states. When this new law came into effect, they offered a small window to allow people to purchase permits in order to keep those they already have but that window closed a long time ago.

Here is the new law if interested: http://www.pacode.com/secure/data/058/chapter79/chap79toc.html

They are adorable! I used to keep a pair of boxies, but they were technically wild. They just came to visit for free food. I would love to have them again, but the last one to wander through our property kept on going. I bribed him to stay, but he had better things to do. ;)

thanks for the info bsharrah, That kind of puts people who bought them CB in a hard spot I hope they could survive on there own, I guess the only thing I could do at this point would start looking for a good place to let them go.

actually I think that site actually says I cant do that either. I'll have to read it more when i get done work. Thanks for the info though

The babies are more carnivorous than omnivorous...so more insects and worms while they are young...I have 1 female from North Carolina myself....need a male...maybe later this summer....ill get 1

Here is an updated photo of my lonesome baby from 2011. She is growing at a nice pace.

I was out watering the turtles this afternoon and noticed a little red clay in one area. I scratched around and found a pleasant surprise! I have never looked for eggs in the 5 or so years I have had these. I am pretty excited.
