• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

email notifications

I do have hotmail and openly admit that unless I specify that fauna is safe they will go to junk mail, junk mail is saved for 24hrs so I can still read it.

My problem was I was still getting emails after I had specifed on the User CP to not send them for subscribed threads. I had to set it up so I have no subscribed threads to stop the emails.

How long did you wait after unsubscribing from those threads? Quite a few functions on this site are done via CRON jobs, which are set to run once per day, usually in the slower times of the early morning hours.

Rich
I waited 24 hours, I originally changed the CP in the evening and when I was still getting the mails the next evening I went in and unsubscribed. I have it set now so I dont subscribe. I was wondering if the problem was since the thread was noted to send when I got email would only new threads not inform me....

I am going to go back and try to subscribe to some and see what happens

Heck, beats me. Quite honestly, I don't have a whole lot of faith in email lately.... :shrug01:

Thats why I turned off the notification, I was on daily and via the subscription list could see what what happening on the threads. So to have 50 plus emails was a bit of a pain, every few minutes get the ding on puter and a notice.

It really isn't a good idea for anyone to subscribe to a LOT of threads anyway. Not only for your own sanity, but also for the load that it puts on the server. Having to field all those email notifications to send out would likely slow down response for everyone trying to use this site. If it were to get bad enough, I suppose I would have to disable that feature anyway.

The problem wasn't the number of subscriptions. I can see who the email is from without ever opening it so I would read the threads and go on. My cookie showing that I have read the thread, signals the system to send another email.

I didn't know I was slowing things down.

Neither did I, Dennis. It just took me about 15 minutes to delete my subscriptions (I didn't see a faster way than by the page...at 25/page, clicking "all", and selecting "delete"). I'm pretty sure that I never selected any automatic subscription or immediate email notification, but I never thought to "unselect" them either. I was at 1400+

Guess I'll be busy somewhere soon unsubscribing when I get the time. 1700+ here.

The option for subscribing to a thread you participate in is set to automatically do that when you reply or create a new thread. That is the default for new registrations here, but it can be changed in your USER CP.

There are pros and cons of doing it this way, of course.

Everyone will likely have their own methods of working with this option. Some may very well WANT to get a notification when any reply is made to any thread that they have participated in. Others may not really care to at all. And some will be more selective about the ones they want to keep close tabs on.

Generally speaking, if you have subscribed to a thread and your email stops working for some reason, causing a bounce back message to me, then you run the risk of your account here being locked until you fix that email problem. Generally when I find this has happened, I will usually delete ALL subscriptions for that account, then lock the account itself until the member notices the problem and the notice at the top of the page when they log in telling them they need to fix that problem.

I have noticed now for the past couple of weeks I have not been receiving email notifications regard new PMs. Everything is correct in my User CP, haven't changed anything. They are not going to my spam box. The email address I am using is my business address, which is hosted by Rich. It is strange that they just stopped working. Not a big deal but wanted to point it out just in case it might shed light on another underlying problem.

Just did a test. Not getting any emails through Fauna.

Got my programmer AND the server data center techs looking into this. :shrug01:

But try it again. My programmer did make a change in the email system early this morning, and I did a test that now works when it did not yesterday.

So try it and see if the change helps any.

OK, now I'm not getting the popup notifications when I get PMs.....know of at least one other having the same problem. I looked, and the little box is still checked to receive them, and nothing in any of my internet settings has been changed....?

I am not either Rich, I just happen to look up and see that I have a new message. I don't get them when I am on, nor do I get them when I sign on.
