    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have been reading through everything i can find on the internet but with no luck. I have my uromastyx (mali) for over two years and he has become a part of our family. Over the past two months he had started acting different, not eating as much or being as active. Now he looks like he has lost 1/3 of his boddy mass (he was very rounded befor). Now he wont eat at all and is very lathargic. He is now trying to bask more and just sleeps under the light because he doesnt have the energy to just walk around though he can from time to time. I have been giving him shallow warm baths the past few days because its obvious he is dehyrdiated but does anybody know of anything i can do? What it could be... if any medication would help, viatmens antibiotics etc. I would give everything i own to help him through this and i feel like theres nothing i can do... but more then that. I know the situation is mostly out of my hands but i dont have the slightest idea of whats going on in general. How old is he?
What are the current temperatures you have his setup at and size of setup?
What is his diet you are feeding him?
Have you been giving him vitamins/calcium?
Do you have a local herp vet in your area?

he is almost three years old

under the light it reaches about 110, and between 80 to 90 on other side of habitat.

Lyntels(sp), carrots, collard greens and a few others things my mom feeds him

we have given him some vitamens once a month but im not sure if it has calcium in it or not

i dont think there are any herp vets around here, i have looked but dont know of any.
 
He normaly doesnt go to the bathroom in his habitat and never in his sleeping area. But now he is going in his sleeping area (we clean it out as soon as we notice), he doesnt have much or any energy and is very weak but wont eat and will only drink a little water when we put him in a warm shallow bath. Does this sound like parasites?
 
It sounds to me like you should get him to a vet. Do you provide him with a UVB bulb? If not, Metabolic Bone Disease (or MBD) is a distinct possiblilty. Aside from knobs in the bones of the legs and along the spine other symptoms can include inability to move around, lethargy and anorexia. A vet visit is a NECESSITY. Aside from that, you need to get a good UVB bulb for the enclosure and at this point, if it is MBD, additional vitamin/calcium treatments are going to be necessary if it is to be reversed. Let me stress one more time, get him to a herp vet. Good luck!
 
I called around to every number i could find and i couldnt find a single one that specialized in that field. But i did find one that has worked with lizards and snakes a lot in the past.
 
That is a good start, any vet with suitable knowledge of reptiles is better then no vet at all. Keep us updated on the vet visit and if you have any other questions please feel free to ask, someone here will try and help you out.
 
Take him to the vet! If you are doing all that you say and he is not showing any improvement than there may not be anything you can do ...Reptiles deteriate very quickly you dont wanna wait to long. I had a uro some time back that had an abnormal shed and then got very sick,,,I took him to the vet on the verge of death 2 days later and it turned out for some reason he had shed one to many layers and was severly dehydrated and his kidney were starting to shut down...They gave him a big shot of fluids under his skin and gave me shots of antibotics for a week, fixed him right up. So dont fret it could be something very easy to take care of, just dont wait get him to a vet and find out..Good luck

Last night he was looking a little better so i had hoped he could recover by the time we got to the vet today. I woke up and a family member went upstairs to get him and when they came back down they had him in a blanket he had just died recently sometime between 7 and 10 AM. I know because he would always pole his head out of a hole in his cave when the lights first come on then work his way out. He had his head out but died that way, doing what he normaly did. It has been suprisingly devistating for my family atleast most of us. We grew very very close to him and didnt think of him so much as a pet but more like another member of the family.

Yes, it sounds like parasites! I had one die two years ago from them. She seemed healthy and then all of a sudden she showed the same simptoms. Even if you don't have a good herp vet, most vets can help. At least they are supposed to know more than the average person. I feed all my Yros Dandilion greens, napa cabbage,endive, escarole, peas, and salad savoy (on occasions). Dust the food daily with a good supliment. Uro dust specifically is good and easy.
