    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Enclosures by Design

As far as an update goes, I just received an email from Sal that says he left a message on my answering machine at home, and wants me to call him once I heard it. I replied that I am currently at work so won't be able to listen to the message or call him until after 4:30 today. I'm not sure what's up that couldn't be resolved through email, so I'm hoping to get an email response and find out. I'll keep you posted.

well from a overall first thought id say excuses on why he couldnt get it sent out today....hopefully im wrong and the message is as long as you machine allows and its all why he is sorry for all the trouble he has caused you in not getting things done for you and is obliging to bow out of this buisness forever !

Be cautious about things that are on your answering machine and not in writing. If it's any sort of deal, explanation, etc., you might want to reply IN EMAIL outlining your understanding of what was on the voice message.

At this point I would flat out tell them that all corespondence MUST be by email or registered mail.

Did sal have your work number? If he did it is very curious that he "left you a message at home" knowing full well you would not get it until tonight, when it would be too late to take care of anything that didn't get taken care of today.

sal and alison, just pay this guy. You've had his money for WEEKS. You guys continue to amaze even me.

Just got an email from Sal. he wanted to know if paypal would be ok instead of a money order. I have him the go-ahead. I'll let you know as soon as I know something.

It is sad to say, but I am not supprised in the least.
Haven't we seen them do this before? It will be another month...maybe two.

Keep pursuing the internet fraud complaint...my gut feeling says this is just a stall tactic to get you to lay off of that.
 
Hi there. Just wanted to let everybody know, the funds just hit my paypal account. Sal sent me an extensive email with remarks about the nature of the BOI system, and I think he raises some interesting points. I'll mention a few of them later when I have a bit more time, as well as providing my assessment.

I for one would love to see that email that "raises some interesting points" about the BOI.

the BOI is NOT perfect. There ARE some opinionated !###%! people on this board who are not objective (heck, that means me, Richie, Rich Z, and everyone else)...

BUT, the BOI has gotten Kris AND Tony their rightful money back, so dang-it-all it WORKS!

I can imagine from Sal and Alison's perspective it is a Pain in the Butt.. I mean, they are forced to make a decision on whether they will pay when they don't want to, or endure zillion-page threads on the BOI.

They are also faced with disbelieving people, no matter how TRUE whatever they are saying IS. They do not have a friendly community here, and mostly that is their own doing.

Yes, anyone can point out some "flaws" in the BOI. But it's like being in the desert and offered the drink that will save your life from a ceramic bowl, only the bowl has a tiny chip in the rim. Do you NOT drink because there is a flaw in the bowl, or do you drink, knowing that the bowl isn't perfect but is saving your life?

The BOI won't save anyone's life, but it does work, and it works well, flaws and all.

I would love to see Sal's email, I said it before, I'm saying it again. I would love even to have those flaws pointed out AS IF they didn't come from him. It would be nice to be able to debate those flaws without considering the source. Because frankly, when you have to consider the source, it taints the information.

Okay, I'm done blabbering for now.

I am very happy that you got your money back. Even with the pressure of the BOI, it took Tony (see Big Papa thread) four months and 50+ pages to get some type of resolution.

As I said earlier, I don't expect Sal & Allison to post any replies to why things happened as they did, so we'll never really know about the lack of communication or the enclosure never arriving. They may have discussed those things privately with Kris, and if they did, that's good enough for me.....it was a deal between them.

I have to say that I'm actually impressed that it was handled this quickly on Sal & Allison's end. The deal may have gone bad, but they owned up to it and fixed it quickly this time. THAT is progress.
 
I believe Terese is correct in saying that upstate wont be on again. Personally I hope they wont be.
I do also hope that if Kris should decide to post more emails he does it in a more appropriate area. As the problem with the cages has been resolved. What the BOI is about.
Fifty more pages on the BOI picking everything apart that has nothing to do with the deal at hand only ones opinions sent via private emails is not warranted.

Just to reassure everybody, I have no intention of posting further emails or further dragging out the situation. I think the point that the purpose of the BOI in resolving this specific complaint has been satisfied is an apt one. This is not to imply that I am satisfied with the situation (contrary to the repeated assertion by Upstate that their only obligation is to satisfy me, and that is what they have done). A look back at the post will notice that I have constrained my comments to simple factual descriptions in the interest of not further inflaming the situation and jeopardizing my refund. At this point, I've been out a few hundred dollars (which is a lot to a graduate student) for an extended period of time, and I'm no further along in my caging search than I was a month ago. As far as the BOI goes, it has served its purpose in at least insuring that I was not further defrauded, and for that I am grateful. So ends my contribution to the thread, although I hope it serves as an exemplar for others contemplating dealing with Sal and Alison.

nothing in life is perfect.. is the BOI perfect well id have to say not by the definiton of perfect ....BUT it does draw results and does shed light on people that use this hobby / trade to take full advantage of others. While i have to agree the resoning behind Sal/s insight on the BOI and members here im sure is one sided and more then likely tailored to his postion thats it his opinion.BUT i can say with out the BOI in place and in use where would newcomers and basically ANYONE who is everscrewed over in a bad deal go to warn others ???? surely not the other BIG herp site while they may be herp friendly there definately not Herp owner friendly in that they would delte any thread that was telling one of who to stay clear of . which result in this case Upstat Exotics to run rampade over the unsuspectin consumers in this hobby by doing exactly what they had intiones of doing in this case . I feel that there was only two things that made this turn out the way it did .
#1 the BOI even in all its flaws was a factor in there descision due to the fact there pertinent info that they provided to Kris was posyted here by him to state what they had said and the eyes of this board and the herp community was watching & hounding them to do the right thing
#2 Kris being firm on his intentions of following through on his threat to inform KS & FBI fraud
to me the BOI is like the Judicail system in place in the US but on a smaller scale but with more influence
Does it have flaws? yes everything and everyone has flaws? does it work ? yes it works ,

But usally the only people that ever complain of thissite and the purpose of the BOI are the ones who have something to hide , something to loose .
you never .. or i have never yet see anyone come here and complain due to the fact there is a post here about how good of a person they were to do buisness with.
its the wones that have the bad guy threads that complain ...
and who can blame them i know if i was doing people wrong i wouldnt wont my dirty laundry all laid out for the world to see .

But again glad to see you have your money kris thats the moral to the BOI and its members .
