In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

My little King snake has escaped his cage! I noticed last night that he wasn't in it... it had been at least 24 hours since I "knew" he was in there. He could be anywhere by now. We spent last night looking around the immediate area in the hopes he hadn't gone far but no luck. The really bad news is that there are so many places to hide in this house we may never find him. There are a few holes in the wall, he's small enough to fit down the heating vents, we have 3 bed rooms, numerous closets, not to mention boxes... if he got to my sons room I fear he is lost forever. I shudder to think if he went to the basement... full basement crammed with boxes and other stored stuff. He's just so small he could fit about anywhere. :(

So my job today is not to go outside and enjoy the warm weather (supposed to be in the 30's) but to tear apart the house looking for "The Baron".

Wish me luck!

Don't give up hope. Check out any warm dark locations, and don't forget to look inside the folds of any clothes or blankets that could be near the floor.

You could try setting a shoe box along a wall with a UTH under it (or a heating pad set on low) put a container in the box with a pinky/fuzzy mouse in it so that the mouse can't get out. He may smell it and have a good meal and stay right there to let things digest. I really feel for you, being that small he really could be any place. You could also try setting some cardboard around the room edges with a dusting of flour on it, if he goes over it there should be a noticable trail through the flour and just beyond. That won't help you catch it but might give you an idea where he might be located. I have heard/read stories from others that have enabled them to catch escaped pets, but the one I am thinking of does not go without a degree of risk, so I hesitate to post it. Lets just say that the person was surprised that a wad of tape had mysteriously moved from one spot to another. If anyone thinks that is just beyond cruel, I can say that I don't really disagree. It's a matter of how far someone is willing to go. I haven't gotten to that point, but everyone else is not me, PM me if you want to know how he got the tape off.

If it makes you feel any better. It sounds like we live in the same house and I have had one snake and 5 lizards escape over the years. Granted the snake was a juvi ball python and most likely bigger than yours, but I have gotten them all back. I found them under the water heater, behind the computer (twice) and under the rack I have for my geckos where a UTH was close to the floor. The snake was found in the middle of the floor, in the basement, at about 2AM when my son went down to get a Mt. Dew to put in the fridge for the morning. At this point the fact that it is cold were you are might be one of your best assets. The little bugger is not likely to get between the walls on the outside walls as they would be way to cold. They don't have huge brains, but what they have tells them to stay where it is warm. I would see what I could do to keep him out of those heat vents. Those may be the biggest draws for him at this point.

Sorry to have rambled on. I know that feeling and want to help you find him if I can. Check all the warm spots you can think of.

Good Luck, keep us posted.

Thanks for the ideas... I might just have to try the pinkie thing and the heating pad. Hopefully it will help. The last time this happened was several years ago when my other king was young... but she had only went about a foot away and was calmly curled up in a box. Not so with this guy. I guess he is more adventurous.

If you can cut a damper in the box that is kind of like a "fish trap", easy to get in but harder to get out? There again it may not help a lot, but it can't hurt.

My snake was gone for three day's. I had a lizard go missing for three weeks!!! She was found, and had gained weight. After that experiance I will never give up. Keep looking, they really are hardy critters.

Like I said, Good Luck, and keep us posted.

LOL, and I have found many more mouse droppings than I thought possible during my search so he shouldn't go too hungry as long as there are babies around. Course that may make him harder to find. That and the fact that once I look in/under something it doesn't mean he didn't move to that location over night... so I have to re-look. :)

He hasn't been found yet. :( I've been through the entire house and searched through anything that was near the floor or could be climbed to... plus I have water dishes in every room and have laid out a couple of the ideas that jerry suggested but he hasn't went for the bait. I'm hoping he didn't make his way to the basement... It's quite a bit cooler there so hopefully he would stay were it is warmer. I did put a water dish there just in case. I miss the little dude... he had a good personality.

It is good that you are still hoping.
A few years back I had 2 snakes escape around christmas time. One I found outside under a board 5 months later when I was doing my spring clean up. The other I found in the crawl space under my house while fixing the plumbing 7 months later. I know for sure they were my escapees because we have no Florescent Orange Corns or Black Snakes around here.
Of course there have been a few I never saw again as well but I keep hoping they will show up.

Look in the condensation tray under your fridge.
If you open the fridge door, at the bottom should be a metal plate with a couple screws holding it on. pull the screws to get behind the plate, then you should be able to see a tray for catching condensation. pull the out carefully, and you might be lucky.

Either way, best wishes!!

they can hide anywhere, I had one escapee living in the stove, there was a bunch of crap inside of it, they will go down dryer vents, inside the fridge, but no doubt, one of the best places to look is inside your couch or easy chairs. if there is even one small hole they could get into, they will get in there, curl up, and not do anything at all to reveal themselves.

All mine seem to end up in closets.. mostly the bathroom closet near their room. I think it's because the bucket to thaw the rats is in there. My friend gave me an idea about finding them.. but I wasn't too keen on it.. but if your desperate, you might give it a shot.
Take a rat or mouse and slit it's throat, hang it up off of something and let the blood drip out onto a bowl or plate.. the smell should bring him around a.s.a.p. Gross, I know... but it works for him. thankfully I haven't had to resort to it yet ::knocks on wood:: Good Luck!

Good luck finding your little one.
One of our cats is remarkable at finding escapees. She won't hurt them, just sits and watches them, occasionally letting out a little peep. I've not had anyone go missing longer than a few hours because Phoenix will find them. It's pretty crazy to watch, but thankfully we haven't had any escapes in quite some time. :)
