We breed!
Recently I've seen a Red Eared slider for sale without any eyes, and listen to this part, for $900.00!!!! They are using this unwated defect as like it is the next big thing. Heck, they nurtured this trait! What ever happened to ethics and/or common sense? Is it just me or does the "webmaster/owner" seem to a younger uneducated individual? I don't know what it is, but I keep seeing more and more younger individuals trying to enter the trade with the "next big thing", usually animals with unwanted defects. I've seen "pug" tails in leoaprd geckos, no eyes in various animals, spinal defects, depigmented scales due to unkept conditions/improper nutrition, etc. Now I fully understand color mutations are in the true sense a defect, but they usually do not inhibit an animals daily life. I'm just glad the majority of these people offering these animals have no clue how to properly breed a good number of the animals they are offering.
