The first disco/fire was produced in 2011. Paul Miles of the Boa Barn produced this beauty. The disco seems to sit on the same allele as the vanilla and fires.
There has been a lot of talk about just what is a disco. At first it was thought to be a fire/sulfur, then maybe a specter, then a vanilla. The disco is neither of these! The disco does have some similarities to a vanilla or a fire/sulfur, but the super form is very different, and so are some of the disco crosses.

The History of the Disco:
The first Disco ball was captive hatched in Ghana in 2000. I purchased the young female thinking that it might be a strange looking ghost. I bred a Pastel male to her in 2004 and produced a Pastel Disco and two more Discos, all females. I began to think these snakes were Fire Balls, as did many other breeders. Unfortunately I did not produce any males until 2007.
It was not until 09 that I bred Disco to Disco, and produced the first Super Disco.\

Hey Joe, fairly new to the disco concept, however, the disco fire is pretty sweet. I see that the disco is obviously on the same allele as the fire and vanillas, because of the way it reacts when combined with the fire gene, however, it is strange to me how it creates white pied like markers. Is there any explanation to this yet?

If they are allelic there wouldn't be a super disco fire...think like yellowbellies and specters. Disco Fire x normal would give you half discos and half fires theoretically. At least I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

In a Disco x Fire clutch, how do you tell the fires apart from the discos? They look nearly identical to me.

For two morphs to be allelic, it has nothing to do with appearance. For example, the Yellowbelly gene and the Specter gene are allelic; they occur at the same allele. If you breed YB x YB you get an Ivory. If you breed an Ivory to a normal, you get all YBs. This is because a YB has one copy of th YB gene and one copy of the normal gene. An Ivory has two copies of the YB gene, so it can only pass on the YB gene to it's offspring. If you breed a YB to a Specter, you get a Superstripe. At the allele where the YB gene is located, the Superstripe has one copy of the YB gene and one copy of the Specter gene. If you breed a Superstripe to a normal, half of the offspring will get the YB gene, and half will get the Specter gene because the Superstripe has to pass on one gene or the other...it doesn't have a normal gene at that allele. And if you breed an Ivory to a Superstripe you will get either Ivories or Superstripes...there is no way to produce a snake that is an Ivory Specter because there are only two "spaces" at each allele.

So if the Disco and the Fire genes are allelic, then a Disco Fire is already a "Super" in a way. I'm not sure I am explaining the concept very well, but I hope that helps.
