In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Evolution of Pets/Koi Pet Store, Edmonton - Bad Guys

What we're dealing with here is a bunch of nincompoops with absolutely no semblance of a clue as to proper reptile husbandry. The fact that these practices are being defended is despicable. It is my opinion that Evolution of Pets should have their business license revoked and their employees receive both substantial financial reprimand and spend time in the same conditions they are subjecting their captive animals to. Lets throw them into a cage with a hungry Bear, Lion, and Jaguar and see how they feel about mixing species after that!

Actually guys, this is EXACTLY the type of comment you DO NOT want associated with you.

It's hotheaded, foolish, ignorant and stupid.

It makes sense to those of us who know reptiles, but you're not dealing with people who know reptiles or this store would have been closed long ago.

Be careful who you have speaking for you and who you associate with. The dumbasses are rampant on both sides and they will get more attention than any well thought out well said statement JUST because of the Dumbass Factor. It's like slowing down to see an accident, people like to see the misery of others, whether it be blood and guts or just dumb people saying stupid things.

Please disreguard the quote in the post above. The quote below is the one I meant to use.

The Evolution of Abuse

Hey guys,

Dont you just love daven's post? Did she really just claim that this store's exposure as animal-torturers has actually improved their business? Hasn't every abuser and scammer (that has been exposed) in the history of Fauna claimed the same thing????

Sincerely,

Gino 'In Da Bronx' Beniquez

Apparently, Michele (prop. of EOP), would rather rock and cuddle these poor animals than make sure they are properly taken care of and according to one post, even schedules people to bring in large male iguanas for a rocking session! Just baffles the mind that someone with so little knowledge/ education can run a business/ rescue and NOT expect getting flack about it. Not only do I feel sorry for the animals but for the people who are being mislead on many aspects of reptile care by these people- stating its ok to house a iguana, beardie, water dragon and tegu together in a tank thats to small for one of them let alone all four. I also learned that a large ball python only needs to eat a large mouse every 2-3 weeks so it doesn't get fat! I could have sworn that I read differently on more than a few breeders care sheets (could the breeders be wrong or in cahoots with feeder suppliers? joking here:rofl:). Just some of the comments made by the people backing EOP make you scratch your head and say wtf are they on! They need educating from the basics on but talk like they know it all- and because of all the postings, etc. business is better now than ever- never heard that one before.

What organization do you speak of? To my knowledge there is no organization in Edmonton called "Reptile Rescue". Please enlighten me!

This is the only Reptile Rescue I could find in British Columbia.

http://www.sitekreator.com/reptilerescue/main_page.html

I promptly sent them an email along with a link to this thread.

I wish all of you the best today. My only regret is that I can not be there to join you in support.

Dandddragons, it is one of the most common comments from a busted scammer. It's either number one or number two on the scammer countdown.

Thanks for all the publicity, business has never been better, I just sold 10k in animals, we have more orders than ever due to the attention, yada yada yada.....

The next step is for them to start saying we're just picking on them because they get so much business, then they'll say that someone they respect has told them to change things a little, and then .... poof, they're gone, hopefully forever.

It's kind of a set routine once you've been in enough of them.

Good luck to you who are braving the cold, wish I could be there with you.

Sunday results

Okay everyone, I guess a lot of people are waiting for this post - so here goes.

I showed up at the meeting place this morning at around 9:30, and was joined by 7 others. The 8 of us made our way to the storefront at approx. 11:45 and began our picket of the store.

Just before noon the store staff began to arrive and they opened the store. A few of the people who were attending entered the store and were quickly asked to leave.

Shortly after that Michelle arrived carrying a Macaw under a blanket and she was met by some comments from some of the people in attendance concerning how she was transporting the bird.

As to the earlier post concerning the Macaw etc. I will leave that to Devon to post the images and allow people to comment on that themselves.

Shortly after that the Edmonton Police Service arrived on scene (I am going to venture a guess here that they were called by the store staff).

There were two officers in attendance (one junior officer and one SGT.) and they asked us politely what our business was in front of the store and I informed them that we were mounting a peaceful demonstration in regards to the condition in which some of the animals were being kept. We presented the officers with the literature we had available as well as a documented press release outlining our purpose.

They (the officers) stated they would talk to the store staff and come back to let us know what was to happen. They stressed the "accepted rules" for our behaviour i.e. do not harass etc. and then entered the store.

A short time later the junior officer departed and was replaced by another.
The new officer - Constable Stacy Miskolczi - entered the store.

Shortly after Constable Stacy Miskolczi returned to the storefront area where we were assembled and inquired as to whether we would be interested in entering the store to meet with MICHELLE to discuss the issues at hand.

Everyone except for myself entered the store (I remained outside to continue our picket campaign where I was later joined by another member).

The others inside discussed with MICHELLE the concerns under mediation from
Constable Stacy Miskolczi until approximately 2:15 p.m. at which point a few members of our party had to leave for other engagements.

At this time I entered the store and entered the conversation after a short visual inspection of animals currently being kept in the store. (my observations will be discussed later)

The conversation continued until approx. 3:15 pm at which time we departed the location with the following terms being agreed to by ourselves, MICHELLE, and Constable Stacy Miskolczi of EPS. :

a) that new signage describing the conditions of the animals be made and displayed on the enclosures

b) that future mediated visits joined by Constable Stacy Miskolczi be made to aid in the changes of current husbandry issues.

c) that MICHELLE stated that at no time has she refused volunteer assistance and would welcome assistance in setting up enclosures etc to ensure proper husbandry

Further conversation with Constable Stacy Miskolczi outside of the store included the possibility of her (Constable Stacy Miskolczi) visiting the store with a vet instead of the animals simply being taken to a vet, and also that Constable Stacy Miskolczi would be filing a report on her observations today.
Edmonton Police Service File #06-162365.

However vague these results may seem I feel they do represent a successful event as our original goal was to bring awareness to the situation and with the continued involvement of Constable Stacy Miskolczi and the EPS I hope we can work towards a positive final outcome.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all who attended today and all those who sent their support.

*Note: Constable Stacy Miskolczi stated that she has an educational background in animal care.

Observations:

a) Reptiles not provided with humid hides as required
b) Multiple species housed in single enclosures
c) Improper enclosures being used to "demonstrate" the results of using improper enclosures
d) Sub-adult and juvenile carnivores being housed in enclosures with adults
e) Animals that were "not sick or injured - just not in prime condition i.e. past injuries or health conditions such as amputations or nutritional issues" housed with healthy species so that "the healthy animals can look out for them and take care of them"
f) a Macaw being transported outside in temperatures reaching -31 celsius with windchill - only covered by a small blanket
g) no visible methods of temperature or humidity measurement
h) feces and urates in a lot of the enclosures
i) no quarantine area for new animals, sick animals, or recovering animals

We are in no way associated with this store or anyone in Alberta. If in fact the store gets their Bearded Dragon stock from a rescue, that rescue is no better than the store. We adopt only to forever homes, not stores or breeders for obvious reasons.
