In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Exactly on her due date - babies and PHOTOS

My suri, Foo, is in labor right now. :( Unfortunately all I can see are 3 slugs, though she's mounded up papers in one corner, so maybe there's a happy present there. She already struck the cage door, so I'll leave her be for a bit before checking.

At least she is having *something* this year and not fooling me for months like last time... even if it's just slugs.

Pics later.

Oh yeah, I got her webcam going again, so you can watch the progress if you want, though with paper over her cage doors and the gloomy gray day it is today, you can't see much. She's hanging out *under* the camera where it can't see her, and I don't think she'd let me move her.. heh. The slugs are also on the other side of the cage out of camera view.

The little snot was just getting DONE with labor, not starting. She already had slugs and babies underneath the cage liner in the corner (I snuck a snake hook through a slit in the door to check). They're all still in sacks and not moving.. is that normal? I tried touching one with the side of the snake hook and it looked like it tried to move away from the hook - but no movement otherwise.

BABIES! And litter tally.

These are the 7 live babies.

There were two stillborns - one was out of the sack so might have been crushed by Foo. The other was still in the sack, but after opening it, didn't respond (that one had a nice tail striped, too).

There were a whopping 22 slugs.

Of the 7 live, 2 aren't moving around too much (I had to go to work, so we'll see how they are in a few hours). Four are very large and healthy looking, and one is smaller but was moving well. Mom was feisty but didn't try to bite when we took her out of the cage. Poor thing looked all over the cage after we removed the babies, cleaned it, and put her back in.

Two of the live babies looked like they were in the same sack, so might be twins:

Overall... YAY babies!

Wow, that's a lot of slugs! Was the daddy pretty young?

Very sorry for the losses, but nevertheless, some pretty babies there, congrats!!!

Yep, both mom and dad were about 4 at the time of breeding. Their previous owner bred them at 3 years old (I witnessed the results, swelling and such but no babies or slugs last summer, I adopted them in October of '06).

At least I now know that both have "working parts". :)

Too bad about that first still born. It sure woulda been a nice critter.

I don't think either are too young this time around. I'd try a different male next time if you can, and see if you have similar results. Could be the male is not that potent, or maybe they weren't left together long enough as a possibility for the high slug count.

But you got some nice ones out of it. The twins thing is pretty cool. I have yet to encounter that. I'd have to keep them just for the sake of it. LOL

Congrats, and thanks for sharing.

Yeah, the two are twins - they both had umbilicals going to the same yolk. It's really weird though - you'd think they'd be identical then, but their markings are different. So... fraternal? One of the twins worries me, very small and thin and doesn't hold his head up much. Seems a little better today, though.

The two small less-responsive babies died their first evening, neither left the sack (I tore the membrane open over their heads).

The three larger babies are finally starting to move around today and flick their tongues, so that's good! Do they generally take that long to start moving around? I'm wondering if they were all a bit premature since they all had pretty large yolk sacks.

Momma fed last night. She's still very nasty (she is typically very tame), even though I cleaned her cage, is it possible she can still smell the babies? She struck the cage door three times at me this morning... heh. I've never been scared of her.. but 8.5 feet of angry snake is intimidating.

I think I'll try a different male next year... but I kind of wanted to keep with pure Suris... and I only have the one male (maybe I get to buy one.. muahahaha).

I'm just so happy that the babies are starting to move around and flick their tongues today. Will they get more active after they shed?

I've had some born with their yolks, and others already absorbed. But I never had any with yolks quite that big, except the two preemies from Aurora this time around. Did they absorb the yolk?

I let them disperse from the sac on their own, and it usually takes 20 minutes to an hour or so sometimes. That's been my experience.

Good luck with the rest of them.
Rick

The big ones absorbed most of their yolks. The twins detached from their yolk when I moved them to a separate container, so I tied them off with some floss, they may have absorbed a little bit but their umbilicals were also tangled.
