In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I recently just purchased about a week old patternless and she is very small. I went to check on her this morning and she was gone. She was in a 6 quart bin with a 1/8th inch gap between the top of the bin and the wood that covers it. The weird thing is that I am the only one who checks on these geckos and the bin was not open at all. Does anyone have any sort of clue how she may have gotten out?

I know you probably already did this... but did you double check any hides or objects in there with her? Some hides have nooks and crannies you may not notice at first.

Yes, I took everything out of the tub and examined it and she wasn't there. Does anyone think a baby gecko could squeeze its way through a 1/8th inch space?

There isn't that much flexibility but i guess if she was able to get her head through she might have been able to get the rest of her body through due to her size. I'm going to look one more time and see if I can find her.

I found her! She ended up dropping her tail in the process though. It's a little bloody so is there any ointment or something i should put on the tip of where her tail broke off?

neosporen without pain killer will work fine :) with some TLC she'll be fine. Glad you found her.

That's fantastic news! I'm so glad you found her. Had she gotten far? I guess this is a lesson for all of us regarding how tiny a space they are capable of escaping from!

Glad you found her....

Reptiles are very fast healers.... There is no need to put anything on it at all....
Reptiles seem to heal better when they are stress free and without human intervention....

She was only hiding about 5 feet from the rack that I keep her in. She was under our air hockey table which has tons and tons of boxes under it. So i pulled all of them out and found her behind one of them.

I have a 30" long, front opening cage which I have divided into 3 sections for my hatchlings with fairly snug fitting plexiglass. Both of my newest hatchlings (4-5 days old) have been regularly appearing in other sections of the tank. I think the opening between the plexiglass and the tank is 1/8" or less. I came downstairs one night to find one of the hatchlings clutching the edge of the plexiglass with her 4 little legs wrapped around it heading off to visit her next door neighbor!

Wow! I guess that solves the case on how mine escaped. I didn't think they could fit through such small gaps.

I lost my oldest gecko 2 years ago, shortly after getting her. It was the weirdest thing. I had a cage top that snapped closed, and it also had my schoolbooks on top of it (mainly because my computer desk was full and I needed a place to put them). She had been missing for 2 weeks, until my cat found her in the corner of the basement and sat meowing loudly until I got her. It took 1 more escape to find out exactly how she was doing it. There was a fake tree in the cage that she would climb to the top then squeeze herself out the farest corner of the screen top that the snaps didn't quite keep fully shut. Now I'm super careful about what kind of top I buy. Instead of the plastic ones, I buy the really heavy metal ones and use clamps to keep it on.

It's good to know that you can find out how they are getting out. Well, now i have an escape artist on my hands because she escaped again out of the 1/8 inch gap. I did find her again and she has rightfully earned the name Houdini.

One thing I forgot to add was that I finally smartened up and put a small cover over the opening which I hope will prevent any future escape attempts.
