In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

First let me start by explaining my recent purchase with Outback. I had previously purchased two redfoots last year from them with no bad experience but parasites which i expected being WC. i was rather happy with the experience. so i sent them an email recently looking for some more redfoots and bp morphs. I was informed he had m/f pair of redfoots 8-10" with the male having some pyramiding which he described as typical for cb redfoots. In my emails i had asked if the pyramiding was extreme and also confirmed the size. I received the tortoises today. They are both under 7" and the males shell is horrible, one of the worse case of pyramiding i have seen in such a young tortoise, the price i paid was for a larger tortoises, as they were supposed to be added to our breeding colony, these little guys are far from the size as described and they are not very healthy looking with the pyramiding being extreme. i had emailed them back and let them know they tortoises were not the size as described, response email said, when they were here they measured at 8+", sorry but they dont shrink over time. i sent him pictures next to my 9" and he has not responded back to my emails, Anyone who is trying to run a legitimate would try and make things right. i usually dont post things regarding issues like this, but buying sick animals and not as described animals is becoming more common. if you are in the business to breed and make money. first off try caring about the actual health of the animals you sell, and make things right when you are wrong. i would suggest buying at your own risk, as outback has a lot of negative responses about reptiles that have been purchased through them,

I too had a bad experience with them about two years ago.

I bought a baby Varanus rudicolis from them but was sent a 30" subadult.

However, I opened the box in the FedEx parking lot - saw the animal, never took it out of the bag, closed the box, and shipped it back.

Never got a refund so I ended up asking for a couple of other animals instead - which were also misrepresented.

My own conclusion about OB is that Josh is utterly worthless. If you can somehow get Ian to handle what you need you will probably be OK.

Outback / Josh

Truthfully, I have dealt with Josh (currently of Outback) since he was J & J Reptiles out of Maine. I have spent a depressing amount of money over several years with Josh both at J & J Reptiles and Outback. I have to say that Josh has always given me a fair shake. If I am buying an animal, I always request multiple photos (close ups, belly shots, close up of eyes, etc) which Josh has always provided. I don't mean to rush to someones defense without knowing all the facts, however, I have done dozens and dozens of transactions with Josh and have not had any issues. Yes, Josh is a bit of a "character", but so many are in this hobby. It seems like unfortunate situations like this one could be resolved by asking for pictures of the animals in advance, as some peoples opinion of bad pyramiding may be different from others. You must remember, Josh most likely sees way more reptiles than you or I, and he has probably seen several examples of worse pyramiding.

I understand that a deal can go south from time to time. There are occasions where the animal we might receive is not what we may have expected. Many times this can be avoided by asking for specific photos and also asking for a photo next to a dollar bill, tape measure, gallon jug, etc. for size comparison.

I just wanted to make the point, that I have not personally had any issues with Josh or Outback Reptiles. I also hope that some of the above recommendations might help people in their future dealings when buying reptiles over the internet.

Kind Regards,

They Overcharged me on a normal gravid ball python, sent me a small instead of a medium according to weight in grams. Over 400g off! Said would credit difference to a future purchase... Never gave them the chance.

honestly you are correct about perception as far as the pyramiding goes, ill eat that. however i dont care how many reptiles you have seen, all tape measures are standard, pretty simple, i shouldnt need a pic by a dollar bill for fucks sake, if you are selling something of a size, you should be pretty fucking sure what size it is. he did that shit to try and get them sold, and in his email he said he measured them at 8''+, FULL OF SHIT. that is not good buisness. if i can get the pictures off my phone with it next to my 9" and a tape measure , you can clearly see the difference, or ask him, he has the picture. if a few ppl call me an asshole then i can assume that is just perception but if a hundred ppl call me an asshole, then im probably an asshole, reputation is reputation, and online their reputation is not so good. i bought from him because of a previous experience. a simple email response to make things right is just a click away, but i can bet based on their reputation i will never see that email. I will see to it that from here on out everyone i encounter in this field knows to use caution when buying from these people.

careful everyone. if you say anything bad about josh or outback the boi wolves will rip you a part, i know.

I've had nothing good to say about Outback, and no one's tried to rip me apart. You came forward with a fairly idiotic complaint, and simply couldn't let it go. You wanted him to do something, he didn't feel it was worth his time. That chip on your shoulder is your single biggest enemy. How people reacted to you would likely have been the same no matter which dealer you were attacking. And before you say I'm an Outback fanboy, I can assure you I'm not. I made one purchase from them a long time ago, and they won't be seeing another dime from me.

To the OP:
All of the cussing isn't going to make people very quick to take you seriously or support your cause. A little professionalism will go a long way around here. If you have pictures, emails, texts, etc, that you feel are relevant, go ahead and post them. Just be sure to edit out any profanity.

you know what forget i said anything, outback is a great place to buy reptiles, i recommend them to anyone. it is completely my fault that i got ripped off. i should have flew to Virginia with a tape measure to ensure that they were the size he said they were.

as far as the boi coming out, well looks like they did. standing up for people being ripped off.

chip on my shoulder, of course i did not receive what he said i would. someone rips me off anywhere else they will get the same response its pretty simple. if you dont mind getting screwed then hey good for you. but i should be allowed to voice my concern especially when other people have had problems with him as well.

as far as profanity, you are correct and i apologize for that.

James, I rarely post things here. I am posting not to comment about either sides. In any complaiint offered on the BOI it really helps people to form a correct opinion on the situation if facts are presented. In this case pictures would have been the first things that should have been posted.
Just my 2 cents worth.

One person posted politely in support of Outback. I don't understand the anger here. Your experience isn't hard to believe given their reputation but we still need to see proof to be fair. Despite what Mr. Patrick says you're not going to be jumped on just for sharing a bad experience with Outback. As was said, show us all the proof you have without any profanity please. A good start would be where he gives you the size of the tortoises and a pic from you with a tape measure.

And the purpose of this thread....... was to........????????

While it is at an op's wanting and discretion to post proof (texts, email, letters (if way old school)), if one comes here throwing up big red x's and bad guys about a company or individual they purchased from and feel they got ripped off and not taking the time to back themselves up, these threads really dont mean much.

I mean, I can come here an say, Joe Schmo sent me a ball python, when I ordered a retic. Most average thinking people would want to see pics, see ads (if any), see receipts, see paperwork, see emails, etc. Just me saying I got sent the wrong animal, is just empty words.

i should be allowed to voice my concern especially when other people have had problems with him as well.

Of course you should voice your concern That is what this site is for.
Pictures and evidence are always good to help you show your concerns, there is nothing negative toward you if someone asks.

Other people may have had different experiences. Let them post theirs as well. Readers will read everything and come to their own conclusions; if there are many experiences either positive or negative, people may take those numbers into account.

I haven't seen, yet, where anybody has been against you or negative toward you.
It does appear, however, that, you may be a bit confused about Dan's (ApexPredatorBoids) post.
The beginning of Dan's post was directed at Kevin Patrick. That is why Dan quoted Kevin's post when he made his post.
Dan did not address you until right after he said "To the OP:".
So, don't take offense, at the first portion of Dan's post (chip on shoulder, idiotic complaint, etc.), because it was not directed at you.
