Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Experience with Outback Reptiles

James, I just got into the office and saw the pic that you sent me next to the larger animal. (My phone would not open the pic, and I was off yesterday), I sent you an email let me know where you want to go from there when you get my email.

In the future please give us a call to discus any issues, or at least give me time to get back to you, as Saturday is unusually the only day I get off so am out with my family and do not get to reply until Sunday to any pictures as I do not have a computer at my house.

Thanks.

I think most small businesses are aware of how important customer service is. So if technology cost is an issue:

He last email was Friday night, so the never replied statement was not over a long time frame. I choose not to have a computer so I can cut away from work for the little amount of time I do have to my self and family.
I am not the owner of the company, just a sales Rep, so a delay of Friday night -Sunday morning seems to be jumping the gun on the op's end.

I have already send him an email and am waiting on his reply to see which direction he would like to go to resolve his issue, as we would have done with or without his post on here.

Just looking at the time stamp from his last email to me with the picture of the sizes, until this thread was posted was just under 5 hours... seems to be jumping the gun a little..

Im not buying the whole jumping the gun issue. You have done stuff like this before Josh and it is unexceptable. People need to know about it. There are people in this industry that only post a thread before their name is blown up on the BOI(because they have chose that name for themselves). If you are just a "SALES REP", then why did you sell a turtle that was the wrong size and tell the buyer that the turtle was 8" when it left there? Now you are saying give YOU time and YOU will deal with the fact that YOU falsly advertised goods or services. You do know that is against the law right? I've seen the pattern all along, I'm just wondering if the general public is.

I think you're overstepping your bounds here.

What a man chooses to have in his home is up to him, not someone who is NOT involved in the reptile industry in anyway whatsoever. I can completely understand his not wanting to work at home. I do reptiles in my shop, I don't handle customer stuff at my home.

5 hours is no time at all for a BOI thread and while I have seen Josh make some mistakes in the past, I have also, as now, seen him handle them, maybe not to everyone's satisfaction, but it is impossible to please everyone every time.

And let's not forget that the OP had NO problem passing on incorrect information which, had not an observant reader here pointed it out, the OP would have simply tucked under the rug hoping that no one brought it up.

Pot, kettle, why is one more wrong than the other?

Why? If Josh is handling it, as it seems he's willing to do, why? He is the company's representative and so far has shown that he is capable of handling a dissatisfied customer.

I suppose that anyone with a computer in their home, like you ms. hollander, could look up that information herself if she felt it so necessary to this transaction, which, frankly, I cannot see.

Josh made the sale, Josh is addressing his customer who is also not squeaky clean in this. I, so far, see no need for anyone else from Outback to be involved.

James,
I see you are looking at this thread, please check your email, or give me a call, I would like to get this taken care of today before I have to head out to help my wife set up the room for our son that on the way.

Time frame was over 5hrs.

Outback
I appreciate your response and I all be in contact with you
If we can resolve this matter, I will be more than happy to share your professionalism
When it cones to these types of issues.

Josh,

Why haven't you answered the question on why you sold an animal that was the wrong size and told the buyer it was 8" when it left there. Did you think he didn't know how to measure the animal and it would not have been an issue or something? This is a legitimate question and needs to be answered. After all, YOU are the one that replied saying it was 8" when you sold it, You are the one that listed it for sale, wether YOU are the owner of the company or not.

Without casting stones in either direction, it is my hope that Josh will be able to resolve the OP's concerns in an amicable and timely fashion. There is no need to point fingers at either party, s--t happens.

James,
I will look forward to hearing from you soon.

As for the size, it was listed as 8" when we got it in, it was 6.75" when he measured, the other animal was larger.
It was a honest mistake that I took what it was listed as and did not measure it myself.
The deal is going to be corrected, so I have no further need to respond on here, as we will correct a honest mistake for James, and I will make sure he is taken care of and happy with the outcome.

The problem I have with your honest mistake is the fact that you know how things in this industry are and selling something that you have not inspected is wrong, especially considering these are live animals and it could have been sick and dying. UNexceptable regardless of how the issue is dealt with. I hope all of you who are reading this thread do good research before you decide to do business with anybody in this hobby wether they are Ma and Pa shops or big guys like Outback. Seems to me like some of the big guys deal in enough animals to not have the attention to detail that some of the smaller guys do, which is exceptable to some people for some odd reason. To put this in context with a Ball Python for example, this is like selling a 500 gram snake as a 1000 gram snake considering the time it would take for that turtle to hit the size it was sold as right? How is that an honest mistake? Do you guess the weight on the snakes you sell as well or do you take the time to pull a scale out?

I have emailed James back and made a few offers to correct the situation, and we are figuring it out from there. It will be taken care of and he will be made right on the deal.

This thread is being corrected now, so I have no further desire to continue on, as the OP will be taken care of on our end.

Hi Mike. Now you know I know you and you know me and we don't have any problems with each other that I'm aware of. In fact, I think you're one of the good guys out there and have never thought otherwise.

I'm going out on a limb here, since I know nothing of your history with Outback, but I'm assuming (yes yes I know) that you got a snake that was significantly less than its advertised weight from Outback. If this is so, was it Josh you dealt with and what was the outcome? If there's another thread covering this could you either link it or pm it to me please as your case is rather off topic, though of a similar nature no doubt, to this one?

Thanks.

When you reach your deal, or the making right of this one, you should probably post up the details so everyone knows how it was reconciled. Good for you, good for the OP, good for the readers.

-------------------------------

Well, I have been hesitant to post my experience, but, I will post it here. I bought a couple animals from Josh back in January(1.0 Black Pastel het Hypo and 0.2 Het Hypos). They came in looking healthy, but, within a few weeks one came down with respritory infection while in quarintine. Mind you, this was a quaratine rack built especially for these animals. This rack never got touched without washing hands before and after and is located on the opposite end of the house in a seperate room.

After contacting Josh, I was told he would give me a discount on future purchases. Who the hell is going to want to buy animals from somebody like this a second time? Not me. So, I added Outback Reptiles to my "DO NOT PURCHASE FROM" list. Which I did not like doing due to the fact that they have some good deals. Unfortunately, when dealing with living animals deals are not always the best thing to go for(you get what you pay for).

I was able to treat that female and admit her to a life long stay in quarintine away from the rest of my collection. Well, after moving the second female out of quarintine into my collection(right next to my het Clowns in the rack, hopefully they don't get sick now), she came down sick. I figured I would call Josh and let him know that the second female came down sick also(he told me in the begging that if one animal was sick they all would be because they were shipped together). I was told that three months down the line is too long to do anything. The funniest thing about this statement is the fact that he did not do anything in the first three weeks of having these animals. I'm not going to rant on forever with this. I am treating the female that is sick now and will be admitting her toi a life long stay in quarintine also. I just figured this experience would give the OP a bit of credit in this situation. Josh and Outback have established a name.....I believe they use it as a crutch in situations like this. Josh when you read this.... I have been willing from the begining to send these animals back and have you replace them and you know it(I told you). Why was I never offered the option?

What was the TOS when you made your purchase? I can see where the first instance may have been questionable, but three months later is rather a long time. I KNOW you keep your animals properly, I'm not questioning your husbandry, make no mistake there.

Was there no other offer than the future discount? Did you, after the offer was made, decline or have any further contact with Outback?

Wes,

I never posted a BOI thread, I just blacklisted them for future purchases. I bought three snakes from Outback that came down sick within the first couple weeks(while in QT and husbandry was spot on). One of the snakes was not the weight as I was told as well(only 100-200 grams if I can recall correctly). Josh basically told me they were healthy when they left there and he was sorry for the weight issue. He offered me 50% off of a future purchase. My husbandry was spot on and I had never dealt with an RI up until that date. I chalked the deal up as a loss considering I had to buy the Baytril and treat the animals. I always read threads pretaining to Outback as I like to see what cards others were dealt. As I stated, it seems those guys can get away with murder in my eyes. Josh has tiptoed around my questions in this thread. Legitimate ones at that. Josh sold an animal that he did not inspect properly. Come on Wes, If you or I(or anyone else for that matter) sold that turtle, our integrity would be comprimised. Just saying. I had a buddy that over looked a simple rub mark on the lower jaw of a Ball Python recently and was blown up by the buyer over the issue.
