In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have a male leo that has a hemipene exposed . It doesn't seem to bother him and I've kept it moist with with antibacterial ointment. Is there anything I can do to get him to zip his britches?

Alex, I think that was a little drastic.

Bryon, you can give him soaks in a kyro syrup and sugar solution. Make it so that it covers his belly, when inside a small tupperware dish. After the syrup soak you can dab some preperation H on the exposed hemipene. Then place him back into his sterile container. Keep the container damp as well as warm. Youe can repeat the soaks and Preperation H about every four hours. It may take a few days to retract. If it doesn't retract with 2-3 days I would get him to a vet.

Agreed again. I just had this happen with one of my babies too. With treatment it wouldn't go back inside. So the one side was amputated. I'm pretty sure if you take care to keep it moist then that is the worse that would happen. Euthanize only if infection sets in and has no chance of survival, due to not taking care of it to begin with.

Must be the season for it, cause this is the fourth case I've seen posted here in three weeks.

All I have to say is at least they have TWO!! :)

Hope your little man feels better soon.

This might be a dumb question..but what does the sugar "do" that helps it retract??

Do a search on this FORUM for "Prolapsed Hemipenes" and you'll find tons of great advise for a problem that is not to rare for this time of year.

Thanks for the help. I'm thinking no on putting him down , just a bit more than I really think the situation deserves. If its still out monday I'll call for a vet appt.

sorry to be a little encouraging. I had kept him on a sand substrate, and by the time i found it, it was blackish purple and he wouldn't move/eat.

Thanks,
Alex

No prob. The color has faded , looks like its no longer flooded with blood , not as pronounced as before. Hoping he manages to put it away himself. Out of curiosity will it keep him from breeding if its removed? I would imagine it would reduce the amount of viable eggs but any ill effects otherwise? Leos are a bit of a side project I'm starting for something different while the boa and bp projects grow. If he can't no biggie , if he can then great.

My herp vet said to try again in about three months after I had my males amputated. But I'm going to retire him till next year to be on the safe side. So yeah they can still breed.

Vet appt is Friday , hoping he zips up his pants before then. Still doing the prep h and using honey and kayro swabbed on it for swelling. Its not red anymore so I guess theres still a chance?

Here Is Something You Can Do
I Remember When I Had One Of My Juvinile R. Auriculatus Exposed His Hemipene
I Cleaned It Of Then I Put Sugar On It To Bring Down The Swelling
Down
Then I Wiped Off The Sugar After A Few Minutes Of It Being On
Then With A Qtip And Or A Balled End Snake Probe (make Sure You Get The Right Size Probe) I Gently Pushed It Back In The Sack
It Came Back Out Around 3 Times But On The 4th Try It Stayed In There
And He Breed The Following Year
I Hope This Helps Everyone

P.s
I Heard Of Other Cases Where The Hemipene Just Rotted Away But The Animal Still Lived
It Just Could Not Breed
But Lived A Few Years After
Take Care
