In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

trying to buy a couple of balls, and because i am currently unable to get to the airport which is about an hour away i cant use delta dash. now i just sent payment to the person im buying from after we had agreed to us fed ex, but now im being told they wont deliver to a home address, only a business address. can anyone fill me in on why this is?

below is taken from the email i received:
"Hi Ed,
We just received your payment on paypal, thank you so much. Please let us know when you would like the animals shipped out , if I can remember right you wanted them shipped though fedex? I sent the last of our paper work to them today and hopefully by the begining of next week we should be verifed. we also ship though delta dash to the nearest airport to you. I will need your name as it appears on your drivers license and your address, fed ex olny delivers to business adresses not home as I just found out,so I will also need a business address too if your going through fed ex."

and yes, i knew they werent as of yet verified, but since like they said they should be by next week which would be the soonest id be ready for them i went thru w/ the deal.

they explained it to me recently and it had to do with liability on their part supposedly.

i finally gave up on the whole process because it was a HUGE hassle (in some regions, it's not so bad).

i think it's more of a technicality having to do with the wording and isn't something that is really an issue. if it comes down to it, have them ship it to a pet store somewhere and just pick it up.

You are a home based business - "hummel reptiles" - They can ship it to your address, and Fed-Ex will deliver it - Happens every day...

now THATS what i wanted to hear. so i can "make up" a business name and there is no way they can say its not, or if they could they wont challenge me asking for papers or some such crap?

It's just termed that way in the Fed-Ex Cert papers to ship reptiles - along with being labeled as to what's in the box - Tell the seller to address it to "Ed's Reptiles" and ship it - as easy as that...

sweet. thanks for the quick responses guys!!!

You could also (if it is feasible) have it held at FedEx to be picked up - saves truck time and the critters stay in a temp controlled room.

And pick em up earlier in the morning

i know we have a fed ex about 15 or so mins away from me. now i know when i got my first 3 ups had the "by 8.30(or so hehe)" arrival. does fed ex do this, or how late may they come if its just an overnite? it just might be better to have them held there and pick them up if they wont be here til noon or later. how early can you pick up at fed ex? sorry for all the questions guys, and dont worry about hunting down the answers if your not sure. just a wee bit excited to be getting my 1st spider and bumblebee :D

FedEx First Overnight is by 0800/0830 (and is not available everywhere), Priority Overnight is by 1030am (in most cases), Standard Overnight is by 3pm. MOST people ship reptiles Priority Overnight. Also, the majority of the time, a Standard Overnight package is still there first thing in the morning, so you can pick it up when the doors open (well, I guess that depends on the particular hubs hours - mine opens at 0830)

just for the record, some WILL ask for a tax ID (they're actually supposed to)

again though, just a technicality but it's not outside the realm of possibility for them to cancel the account if you make up a business name.

thanks again guys.

and richard, just to make sure, im not trying to ship so dont have an account per say, but just will be receiving, and im guessing what your saying only pertains to the shipper, or might they ask me for some kind of business records at my front door?

You should be aware that if you EVER had a package left at your door by FedEx. they will forever more assume they have a signature waiver to dump it at the door without even knocking, so they can save time on deliveries, even if the shipper pays for signature required service. Most shippers (including me) only guarantee live arrival if the package is signed for. I really discourage home delivery because of this "drop and run" policy and also because, if there is going to be a mistake made, it is most likely the driver trying to find the house, or the delivery truck that is too hot or cold. It is so much safer to pick up at the FedEx office if that is possible. You can find the location and hours online at FedEx.com.

If you must take home delivery, try a BIG sign on your front door, sit outside on the porch, or do your best to catch them before they leave the package sitting in the sun.

thanks kathy. i think i should be good, since i always hear them (sqeaky outside door) when a package comes, and its an apt building so he would be in the foyer at worst, not out in sun, and that is an excellent idea on the note on the door.

if i were to ask them to hold it at the hub, i guess i would request that from the seller, or would i have to talk to fed ex myself directly? im almost more afraid to ask them to hold it and then not be able to find it when i get there then having them bring it to my door. i guess asking the shipper to put my phone number on there if the driver did have a problem wouldnt be any good?

The shipper fills out all of that info before shipping. Your phone # is required, but don't hold your breath waiting for FedEx to call you. Your shipper should send you a tracking # the night he ships. You can go to FedEx.com and track the shipment the next morning to make sure it arrived. Be sure to take the tracking # with you to FedEx or they can't find the package.

When I fill out my online FedEx airbill, I ONLY give FedEx the customer's name with the FedEx address instead of the customer address (if it is to be held at the FedEx office). That way, FedEx has no place to deliver to except their own office. FedEx is better than DHL about not making stupid mistakes, but they are a big company and I have had them take "hold at FedEx" shipments to try to deliver them, prior to me not giving them the customer's address.

There are a lot of little tricks to getting the best out of each of the shipping companies. If your shipper is new to FedEx, he might not know some of their little idiosyncrasies YET. He may need to ask if not sure.

Personally, when I know I have a delivery coming in I set my alarm for 8 AM and I have my Fed-Ex radar set on high alert. I have the front door open, windows open in the front part of the house and keep the noise level down in the house. 95% of the time I hear the truck and am on the porch waiting before he is even out of the truck. Only a time or two has the man made it back as far as the sidewalk after dropping a package on my porch.

One other thing that truly helps, get to know your Fed-Ex driver/s as best you can. Keep in mind they are very busy and dont want to chit chat for 5 minutes. Talk time is literally going to consist of the time they are walking to and from their truck. Use that little time as best you can to build a good rapport with your driver/s. Most drivers are good folks and will work with you if you take the time to build a good relationship with them.

How odd , I live where the buses don't run and still get Fed Ex deliveries. There are a few businesses spread over the county on little back roads here that get Fed Ex delivery too. Even the route driver is waiting for babies to drop so I can start shipping. Reckon I should color myself lucky.
