In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Inquiry Fedex Delays

FedEx is horrible, plain and simple! I really cant remember the last time I either received or shipped out and it went perfectly smooth. This is why I always use UPS whenever possible. Yes, UPS is a lot more expensive, but to me their service and reliability (peace of mind) is well worth it! Whoever mentioned that shipping via UPS is illegal is completely wrong. They ship pretty much all reptiles EXCEPT for snakes.
http://www.ups.com/animals#Accepted+/+Prohibited+Live+Animals
No one said it was illegal. I said unless you have an account or the policies changed you can't ship threw ups, people who had accounts before the no snakes thing I believe can still ship snakes. Which is why I said unless you have an account. I guess I should have been more clear, but didn't think my words would be changed in a later post.

Does anyone know when the ups started prohibiting snakes and if they grandfathered in previous account holders so they could still ship their snakes since they had their account previous to the changes? I think I heard something along those lines but not completely sure, would be nice if someone had some information they could share on that.

Folks....

I've basically given up on Fedex AND UPS ..even Delta Airlines has screwed up in the past, which is why you should meet with the manager at Delta Cargo if you are a regular shipper. Introduce yourself and be friendly and let them know that you ship reptiles and whether he/she could have their people look out for your shipment... this works and I have even received reimbursements (believe it or not) back for their screw ups... you have to be nice and professional though, regardless of how stupid the mistake was (yes, some airline idiot placed cold-blooded animals in the freezer as cold-blooded animals needed to be kept cold, right? Sheesh...that was a FIASCO.... but stayed calm and got my money back from the manager)

Delta AirCargo is more pricey than FedEx but they KNOW(somewhat) reptiles AND the good thing is that the "KNOWN SHIPPER" crap (that you are dealing with at UPS) has been discontinued and anyone should be able to ship. Prices average around $80 for a 2' x 2' x 2' box around 20 lbs. You can go online and see the status of the package.

Unlike FedEx and UPS, Delta AirCargo doesn't do door to door service but if you are shipping expensive animals (or live a distance from the airport) do you really want to have someone delivering it to your house who doesn't know anything about herps? Also, only Delta Air Cargo (and Delta Dash which is more expensive for basically the same service as they do not bring the animals into the terminal any longer in most or all states) ships venomous herps..

Hope this helps...

fed ex

I have had two outbound delays for 2015 and one inbound delay for 2015 (thus far). While I am not happy about there being a delay when there is a delay, I understand that those are exceptions for me rather than high-frequency events. Also, while the recipients of outbound packages experiencing delays are likely not at ease, I am pretty calm about the whole thing and the packaging utilized should see the precious cargo safely through the stretched duration. I think FedEx does a darn fine job with the insane volume they handle and they will continue to have my business via the use of a facilitator (RE).

Agreed Nickolas. Shipped through reptiles express with Fed Ex priority overnight for 4 years now. Maybe 100 shipments and have never had a delay. Just shipped yesterday. Dropped it off at 6 pm and it got to its destination at 8:30 this morning. They will have all my business.

I've had a lot of delays with fed-ex over the past two months, too. Only about 1/2 my shipments have been on time. Before that I only had the occasional delay.

Im not sure what the problem is...... Most of the breeders I know have been having problems with deeds for the past 3 months.

Im not 100% sure who you are referring to. Are you talking about the comment above yours?

I am addressing the comments in this thread that were directly about FedEx, I think that is fairly clear? If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a PM so we do not detract from this thread or go off topic,
thank you.

Simply insure your package with SYR and get a refund if over a minutes late. Fully insure it and get value of snake back if DOA because its late (there are some exceptions so do your research).

http://shipyourreptiles.com/en/get-help/get-help-shipping-tracking#question-119

Exactly, I just had 1 out of 3 shipments this past week that was late. Called SYR up and had my shipping cost refunded immediately. Fedex will not pay for being late but it is a nice add-on SYR has available for times when fedex service is terrible.

As someone with a direct eyeball on tens of thousands of FedEx shipments each year through ShipYourReptiles, I can tell you that YES, this year is worse than any in recent history.

But IT IS ALL RELATIVE. In a normal day, less than 3% of packages will be late. In a crazy day of delays, maybe 5%, very rarely 10% of packages will be late (usually a Spring or late Summer storm in Memphis).

There have been a few times this year where weather has caused crazy delays and chaos in the system. There were two periods in 2015 where there were delays for perhaps 40% of air shipments. That was indeed a nightmare.

In one week in February, we paid out over $10,000 in late arrival refunds. Ouch! But that is what the SYR insurance is for...

UPS really isn't any better performance wise. They have the same statistical delays, less than 3%. They have their own weather and delay issues going through their hub in Atlanta, which is one of the busiest airports in the world.

One service or the other may be better for YOU, according to your location/region. But service wise they are statistically the same.

Rate wise, the base rate of FedEx is the EXACT same as UPS, to the penny, across all services. The discount you are able to secure on your particular account is what varies.

As mentioned, UPS doesn't allow snake shipments. They aren't friendly or supportive of reptile shipping at all. We are a FedEx company, but still, FedEx has an actual Live Animal Desk, and they are actively supportive of the reptile industry. They deserve your support.

It is incredibly frustrating when you have a late package, for sure. And there have been more storms and delays this year than in years past, but there is no simple solution or "go around" for that.

If you are using ShipYourReptiles and you have an issue or delay, contact us directly, not FedEx. With our relationship and volume, we swing a much bigger hammer with FedEx than you are able to on your own, and if something can be done, or expedited, we can make it happen.

It always helps to look at the whole weather picture later in the day before shipping.
FedEx, hands down, beats UPS in the box throwing contest!

Absolutely, weather is always key in live shipping.

I actually think it is easier to ship in the winter than in the summer. Much easier to deal with cold temps with a heat pack, than it is with hot temps that threaten to overheat animals. Reptiles tolerate cool temps much better than hot temps.

We have weather and temperature guidelines at our site, based on the high temps of the origin and destination. Weather reports are also available through quick click buttons during the booking process, including for the hubs in Memphis and Indianapolis.
