    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Argh - here's the situation.

I have a medically suspended drivers license.
As such I do not own car. As such I have a signature on file with FedEx because if I'm ever not home, it is a royal pain to have to go in and pick something up.

Now when expecting snakes - I make damn sure I'm home.

Twice now in a row - I've heard a heavy truck pulling away, no knock or nothing, and see a package on my door stoop. My guess is the idiot driver saw no car in the driveway, assumed I was not home, saw sig on file, and just left the package without a knock.

The problem is - if I don't actually sign for the package then any live delivery guarantee from the seller is void. All because a FedEx driver is too lazy to knock on my door.

I did file a complaint explaining the situation - hopefully it does some good.
 
For some reason, they have a signature on file for me as well, so I'm faced with the same situation as you. How do I prove I was there to get the package if there's a problem and the seller tries the signature required thing?

What I do when I get a package, is I immediately take a picture with my cell phone camera, and send it to the seller's cell phone, if they have one. If not, I take one with the digital and email it to them. Either way, a picture of the box they sent has been sent to them with a time stamp attached, either on the email, or the phone.

I figure if that time stamp is within 5 or 10 minutes of the time that Fedex notes in their system that the package was "left on the doorstep" (even though the driver handed it to me), that should cover my rear end.
 
I hate these signature releases. Even if I request a signature on a package, they ignore it if there is a signature release on file. They still charge me the signature fee every time and I still complain to them to get the invoice adjusted. I never filled out any type of paperwork for a signature release and supposedly I have one on file now.
I think this signature release is garbage. If you sign for one package one time and they have the electronic version of your signature stored, I swear they just use this release as an excuse so the driver doesn't have to do anything but the drop and run.
With the latest delivery to me, they didn't even go up the stairs to the front door. They left the package in the driveway by the garage door. If I wasn't expecting something, I never would have known they came.
 
Well - I like a signature release because not having a car, I buy a lot online to have delivered to my door, and I'll use Next Day if it is cheap enough. The signature release means whatever I bought will be waiting for me if I'm not home when delivered. So it is useful to me to have one on file.

What I don't like is that they don't even bother to knock when I am home - but just leave it on the porch. Doesn't matter for most things, does matter for live animals - and I always make sure I am home for those.

I'm lucky enough to have a FedEx delivery person who always rings my doorbell several times to make sure I'm home to receive packages. She knows that I have snakes, so assumes until told otherwise that all of my deliveries are live and perishable. The previous delivery man was never that thoughtful; drop the package on the stoop, leave. I finally resorted to posting a sign on my front door:

(in BIG letters) "Live/Perishable Delivery Expected. Please ring doorbell and wait."

(in smaller letters) "Failure to notify recipient of delivery will be reported to Federal Express."

After that, no problem.

We have had trouble with deliveries from FedEx too, just too lazy, etc.
Putting a note on the house or the apartment helps quite a bit though. I hate living in apartments because alot of times, they will automatically take every delivery to the office instead of ever trying to deliver personally!

Well you just can't have it both ways. If you have a release on file, then the driver has no actual need to see you. He doesn't know the difference between a snake and a pair of shoes when it's in a box.
Some drivers will ring the doorbell out of courtesy and some don't. They aren't under any obligation to. If you have a release on file so you don't have to be there to receive a package, then you have to accept that it applies to ALL your shipments, live animals included.

Actually he does because the snake packages clearly states "Harmless Live Reptile" on the outside and often reads "Do not leave in sun" (which my porch is).

But I think I'll take the advice of putting a sign up asking them to knock - and taking a photo that gets e-mailed immediately to the seller for the time stamp.
 
If you signature on file than you did sign it! Hence then he won't ring the door bell! have you tried talk'n with him and tell'n him how important this is to you that he rings the bell?
Try buddy'n up with him instead of look'n at him like he's dumd for do'n his job!
I tip the ups guy,fed guy, it's good karma, and now when they see a box for me they get it to me fast, and safe, even rides up front of truck!!!! Buy'n someone lunch/6pack when they bring you a healthy live critter goes a long way!

So - basically for live snake packages that come maybe 3 times a year, me without a car do to a medical condition has to take the bus down to where they keep stuff for the other 90% of the packages I receive?

My understanding of "signature on file" meant that if I'm not there to sign a package marked signature required, the driver could then leave it on the porch w/o FedEx being liable - but that they still had to attempt to get one.
 
btw - it's not easy to talk to the FedEx delivery guy himself when the truck is leaving before I know he's there (doesn't even bother to knock).

Dude not try'n to piss you off but if you maybe get 3 live packages a year, and you don't have a car due to medical reasons, it seems like you would take ALL the right measures to insure the live arrival of your purchase......was there even a problem with your animal?........i

Why don't you just remove your signature release when your expecting a live animal delivery? (it takes a phone call to FedEx)
And when you purchase a snake , the shipper has the option to request a signature (this cost xtra). If you remove your signature release they will have to knock on your door to get your signature.

ALSO..... FedEx is NOT liable for live animals NO MATTER WHAT PROBLEM OCCURS.

Not true. Many drivers will ignore it and still leave the box on the porch without even bothering to ring the door bell.

I ran into similar problems when customers had signature releases on file.
So I contacted FedEx, and since then I haven't had any problems.
If the customer removes the signature release, and the the seller requests that the package be signed for , the driver has to knock on the door/ring the bell in order to get the signature.

At least that has been MY experience so far.

If the driver fails to get the signature and one is required, a phone call to your sales rep should get it fixed so it doesn't happen again.

I had a problem w/ UPS ...everytime I got a delivery, they literately threw the package on the porch. I didn't bother talking to the driver, I simply called UPS and informed them them of the problem. Now the driver gets out and knocks on the door .... everytime.
