In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Feedback solicited on speed issues.

The site loads as it always has for me ... usually fast but occasionally I get time outs and have to reload. Nothing major. Oh, we have DSL BTW.

How many of you know how to run a traceroute? The data center techs asked if I could get people who are having the slowness problems to do traceroutes for them. They are curious if the problems are coming from one particular part of the country.

I know traceroutes from me show Comcast having some definite router problems, so perhaps the problem isn't merely at my location.

Also, when you are having problems, try to post ASAP so I can see if everyone is having the problems at the same time.

Lastly, was the situation better, the same, or worse since the recent server move?

With the hardware the new server is running, this SOB should run like a scalded dog..........

I rarely had any problems before the server move...and when I did, it was usually with everything. Since the switch, I've noticed it is consistently just here, though, as previously mentioned, it is improved now.

I have no idea how to run a traceroute...but will try to figure it out & let you know

I only had problems a couple times... the page would freeze on me and it takes a looong time to do a search. That's it though... I have Comcast by the way...

well, I did it, but can't seem to get it small enough to post & still be readable. I would be happy to email it to you, if it will help (or to you, Jim, if you want to try your hand)

Maybe I am just reading that wrong, but isn't that a traceroute from DNSstuff.com to my server and not from your own PC?

That would explain why everything on mine was almost exactly the same, lol.
Back to the drawing board, I guess.

I did my own from the same site and the IP addresses don't change. However, this one DOES show a problem, so I forwarded it on to the server guys...

It is. I just installed this utility in my browser and wasn't really paying attention.

From my home router to 63.247.91.147 the following are the results of three attempts. As you can see the only lag is one try at the penultimate IP, and even then not a time out:
Tracing route to snake.fdns01.com [63.247.91.147]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1.....2 ms 1 ms 1 ms pool-70-104-XXX-XXX.nrflva.fios.verizon.net [70.104.xxx.xxx]

2.....2 ms 2 ms 2 ms 10.31.12.4

3.....2 ms 2 ms 2 ms P3-1.LCR-02.NRFLVA.verizon-gni.net [130.81.96.82]

4.....9 ms 9 ms 9 ms so-7-0-0-0.ASH-PEER-RTR2.verizon-gni.net [130.81.17.179]

5.....9 ms 9 ms 9 ms ge6-2.br02.ash01.pccwbtn.net [63.218.94.21]

6.....21 ms 20 ms 20 ms gnax.ge2-13.br01.atl01.pccwbtn.net [63.216.31.130]

7.....21 ms 21 ms 134 ms L3-ATL-3-g0-2.gnax.net [63.247.77.25]

8.....21 ms 20 ms 20 ms snake.fdns01.com [63.247.91.147]

Just noticed this thread. Whew...and here I thought it was just me way up in the boonies of Northern Ontario, Canada.

Yes, I am still experiencing lags, not as much so as before the reboot but they are still there. Sometimes if I'm reading a thread that has several pages, going from page to page times me completely out and freezes the screen. I just hate that blank green screen... :(

I am on a high speed cable modem and am not only experiencing it here but also on Cornsnakes.com although today it seems to be a little faster.

Thanks for working on the problem Rich...as if you didn't already have enough to do.

Rich,

We monitored your site throughout the whole day with no interruptions/errors whatsoever. Hopefully after this last peering upgrade/addition the issue will be fixed and no more timeouts should occur. If you continue to experience any issues whatsoever regarding this, please do not hesitate to let us know and we will get on it asap. Thank you for your patience while we worked through the upgrades and thank you for your continued business. I once again apologize for the inconveniences this has caused your users and you.

Feedback? How are things running for you within the past day?

We live in the country and are limited to dial up. Before the server change I really had no problems browsing the site. However, after the server change I can not use Netzero High Speed to surf your site. I can still use the Netzero Dial Up but I have to use Firefox, thereby bypassing the high speed software portion that Netzero offers. The site works fine with Firefox (slow but then what dial up isn't). I do wish it would go back to how it was as the Netzero High Speed was very fast to load the pages.

I've gotten trapped on the green screen 3-4 times in the 30 minute period I have been online today

I still get the green screen when going to different pages, just not as long as it was before. About 4 to 8 seconds of it until the page loads, so not as bad. Again I have DSL going thru MSN.

I am now going through foxfire and it is going a lot faster. It is not a smooth move from page to page but is much faster.

Edit: Foxfire shows no green screen at all for me. It is choppy as it goes straight to the next page but I watch it get it together there. Still all in all it is faster and going back a page is a piece of cake.
I like the speed much better but am not sure which is better for the old eyes, the green screen or watching the words get into place :ack2:

How have things been going lately on the speed issues here? Anyone NOT using Comcast having a problem?
