Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I just need some ideas of feeding schedules for young beardies and adult beardies. What/when do you feed your beardies? THANKS

One more thing, do I need herppitivite?

If I need herppitivite, calcium, and minoral can someone please describe when and how they apply them?

Thanks so much! Chris

For new babies id feed greens(collard, dandylion, mustard) in the morning along with beardie diet. After theyre all asleep put it in the tank so they can wake up and eat.
In the afternoon(3-4) id feed them crix galore. As many as they can eat. After that around 6-7 id give more crix and occasional mealies also. All insects should be dusted with reptivite once a week(my prefrence, most petstores cary it).And calcium powder every day(most petstores have it).
This is just how id do it if i had a lot of babies.Hope some of this helps.

What is beardie diet? Any advice on Miner-All? I don't even know what it is.

:>off_to<: I think I want a rock for my beardie cage. Can I get a rock from a creek? If so what do I do to it, bake? What temp for how long?

Thanks for your help/advice.

Here's a link to a caresheet that explains it well, I think.

Beardie Diet just means a commercial pelleted diet such as the one RepCal makes. It is carried at most pet stores, even PetsMart.

A rock is fine once cleaned, but you may find it easier to use driftwood so your baby can climb closer to the UVB lamp if he wants to.

Minerall is fine, but I prefer RepCal. It is easier to find at a store rather than having to pay for shipping.

I was going for a rock instead of drift wood because a caresheet said that the rock would help warm from under and above it as they absorb heat much better than wood. What do I bake the driftwood at and how long? Thanks for the site Melissa!

You can definitely use a rock. I did for a time, but I found as my beardie got larger he did not particularly care for laying flat. It was a pretty flat rock. He prefers to be partially upright draped along a branch-like piece of driftwood. I have only used driftwood that i had bought for my aquariums, so I'm not sure about baking wood. You can boil it, or if it is too big, pour boiling water over it in a large tub. I would be very careful of baking that little pieces don't catch fire. Wood will hold some heat, but not as much as rock will. Rock can easily be put in the oven. I'm not sure there are any particular guidelines, but I think 200F for an hour or so should do it. Just don't try to handle it until it cools down.

I would suggest for babies that you feed them more than 1 or 2 times a day of crickets. They have very high metabolisms and not feeding them every 2-3 hours can lead to a lot of nipped appendages. Placing too many crickets in the tank with them at one time can stress them out and lead to their not eating as well.

30 to 60 crix a day.
Be sure that the calcium powder has vitamin D3. It helps the dragon to process the calcium into bone. Minerall is good but watch which one. I believe that Minerall - 1 has D-3. For vitamins I use herptivite.

To apply, drop your crickets into a container like a Parmesan cheese jar (empty and cleaned) and sprinkle the calcium powder ( I use reptical once daily) over the crix. Just enough to coat them. Gently swirl the crix in the container till coated then pour in. For the vitamins use the same method but one meal 3 times weekly.

Using an empty Parmesan cheese jars (like Krafts) and keeping the lid really helps. After I sprinkled the calcium or vitamin powder on the crix I put the lid back on. Depending on what size the crix are I will open either the sprinkle side for small crix or the pour side for larger crix and dump out the crix that way. The openings and lip of the lid help to keep the extra powder from dumping into the cage or too many crix going in at one time. It even works as a crix feeder. Set the jar with the lid on but one or the other side open.
As the crix come out your dragon gobbles them up!

Just remember to remove the jar as soon as your dragon is full...

Up until you I've been hearing only use the vitamins once per week. Is how often to do that a preference? I thought it was dangerous to give too much vitamins because they can get (i think it was..) vitamin A poisoning?

Thanks

I give the vitamins 3 times weekly to young growing hatchlings. Adults, once a week.

Roaches ....in MY house??? No Way!!!

Just kidding...

There are a lot of people who use roaches for adult dragons, don't know about hatchlings though

I use crickets, silkworms and for adults , superworms.

Visit Beautiful Dragons at

They have a nutritional break down of insects and other foods dragons can eat.

I use Rep-Cal Calcium powder with Vit D3 to dust the crickets daily. Also I use herptivite once a week in place of the calcium. I know that many people recommend these products for beardies!! :)

I feed my guys greens and veggies in the morning...then superworms around 12, and crickets for dinner around 5...i give them as many crickets as they will eat. Don't go to crazy with superworms, cause one time i treated one of my dragons to too many supers and she ended up throwing them up. Make sure to dust your crickets...they need their calcium and vitamins :) Also...neatochickens says she feeds hers mealworms...i would advise against it, because they are not good for them. They contain too much phosporus.

As far as the rock, yes you can get one from outside....just be sure to clean it really good with a solution of bleach and water(not too much bleach), but be sure to rinse it off extra good and let it sit for a while to air out. You can also put it in the oven at 350 for 30 minutes. This is what i would do. Maybe someone else would have a better suggestion???

Are mini meal worms fine for young beardies or too high risk of compaction?

I think the majority of beardie breeders say not to feed mealworms period, mini or regular. If you are looking for something easier than crickets and it's just for 1-2 juvies, I would go with silkworms. They are much easier than crickets, though they do cost more. Frankly, I felt it was worth the extra money. My beardie grew very well on them, and I didn't have to worry about them being left in the cage with him while I was at work. Now that he's mostly grown, I hand feed him superworms.

Thanks, anything else though? I just want to buy about 500 of something to hold my beardies until my silkworms are bigger and established. Thanks.
