In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Field herpers in NE Arkansas

I would if it wasn't so dadblasted far. I love the area over there... and I may have to take some time off and take you up on it. Some of the species I want to photograph are over there and not over here.

Come on! I plan on going with a few people when it warms up to look for just about anything but I really want to see the collared lizards again!

Kevin -

I've done quite a bit of field herping around Paragould, AR and other parts of NE AR. My family lives just over the state line in MO. I don't get over that way as much as I would like. But if the time of year is right I have found a TON of snakes just road cruising during the day!

By FAR my favorite find in NE AR.

What a drama queen!:)

gotta love the hoggies

Yeah, I was extremely excited to find her crossing the road mid afternoon in May a couple of years ago. I also found 2 or 3 eastern hog road casualties on the same 2-3 mile stretch of road.

I have also has some really good luck near Manila, AR where I have found a TON of black rats, water snakes (mainly greens I think), and a few other species.

What part of NE AR are you from?

You know, I remember reading an account a LONG LONG time ago about someone viewing a hognose snake actually surfing in the ocean. Not sure where exactly, but I believe it was perhaps Assateague Island. Well, I just did a quick search online to see if I could find that original article, which I did NOT, but found some amazing photos that pretty much support that account I read...

I don't know about you, but I just find the thought of hognose snakes enjoying a day splashing around in the ocean as just funny (in a very neat way) as all get out...

Wow, those are great shots. That is a really nice looking eastern. That hognose thinks it is a sea snake! I wonder what made it decide to go for a swim in salt water.

I live in Paragould and would love to START field herping...do you have any tips?

There are some really nice state parks around there that have lots of trails. Go out on a sunny warm day (if it just rained a little the night before, even better) and hike around. Also, road cruising at night in the hills around there will usually produce some good finds (just make sure you are careful b/c the traffic is surprisingly kind of busy on most of the roads even at night).

Also, make sure you know the local venomous snakes. I have seen copperheads while road cruising.

Good luck.
