    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Fireball morph a "tri-dom"?

Ok, so I have a quick question:
If there was a ball python morph that was produced from a Fire X BlkEL, would that make fireball morph a tri-dom?

The Striated Ball Python was produced at Constrictors Unlimited first in 2008. We bred a Black Eyed Leucistic Ball Python to a Fire. In the clutch was Fires, Black Eyed Leucistics and this Stirated girl. The Striated has a complete stripe, it has a dark shattered pattern on the sides, a completely white belly, a pale pink tongue and jet black eyes. The Striated looks very similar to the Super Stripe that is produced with the yellowbelly, but with the breeding that was done here, it is not possible for this to work the same. We are very excited to see where this project will go. More breeding will be done this year (2010) and hopefully we will learn more about how the gene works.

It doesn't look like they got very far with it. Either that, or they just never updated the thread. I'd be interested in hearing more, if there's any more to tell.

Can't help wonder if it's not similar to Ben Siegel's Orange Bellies. Sometimes OB x OB will create a Graphite, which is basically a fancy Ivory. But a Graphite x YB will (again some times) create an Ultra Ivory.
 
A Fire x Blk-EL would produce half Fires and half Blk-ELs. Unless there was another gene present (which may or may not be the case), I'd expect only a double co-dom, at most. The leucism should annihilate most color/pattern. Then again, some Blk-ELs have yellow on them, hidden genes could be camping out in there somewhere, and we've seen weirder things happen with BP morphs over the years, so.... :shrug01:

That striated BP is a beauty, though. I hope they figure out the genetics of it!
 
I wonder as well!

I have a fire male that I got from Constructors Ulimited. I plan on making some BlkELs and i think I'll have to breed back to see if i get lucky. It's worth a try and that morph is smoking!!
 
Well its a girl from 08, so she may not have been up to size to breed this last season. Maybe we'll see something about her next year. Very interesting.
 
I think I'm going to reach out for shoots and giggles... haha "shoots". Anyway, I'll keep you post if I hear anything back from CU about the subject, because I really want to know what came of her, projects, and exactly the genetics that they believe produced her.

So i emailed Mike Wilbanks with this email:
I wanted to know about a project you were doing back in 2008. It's the female Striated morph that came from you breeding a BlkEL back to a Fire. I wanted to know what projects ever came of it and what were the genetics exactly, that you can come up with, that was able to produce her. I got a male Fire morph from you guys that was born in 2010 (who I adore by the way and thank you very much) that is ready to breed. I would like to know if you have any idea if he would carry this gene. I know that's almost impossible to say unless all your fires come from the same parents, which is unlikely. I'm just in love with that Striated morph and would love any information regarding that project.

I got a reply shortly after with this response:

We just have eggs from her today. If my theory about the Striated is correct, then it is impossible that your Fire has the gene. I think the Striated is a trait that come out when combined with the Fire like the super stripe and yellow belly. I will know more after this year. We will update the site when we have more information.

Confusing

If the trait combines with fire similar to a spector yb combo, then how could a Super fire X Fire pass it without showing it in the first place?

If the Super Fire was carrying (and hiding under all that white) the additional gene that makes a heterozygous-Fire animal into a Striated.

Or, of course, the possibility of a mutation that's spontaneously cropped up.

After thinking more about it I do see how being a lucy could hide the additional gene, interesting and confusing :rofl:
 
So what other morph do u think the BlkEL was hiding? Or are we thinknig something like the hidden gene woma scenario?

Ok if I wasnt confused before, now I am.

No idea - it could be something totally new, it could be something we already know about. Does anyone know what a Spector Fire looks like?

Or are we thinknig something like the hidden gene woma scenario?

Not precisely, since my understanding of "HGWoma" is that it's a single genetic trait that resembles "woma" but is a separate and distinct gene.

So more like a Platty Daddy scenario if it doesnt turn to be sumthin like a Spector Fire?

I haven't looked into this or even looked at his original posting about it but I have to ask... There's other ways to make BlkEL right? So did he say his lucy was a fire x fire bred to a fire?
