Josh Tucker here with Ultimate Pythons, PLEASE READ ALL BEFORE POSTING
I recently had an ad up in the for sale section posting some female fires for sale for $250 shipped. Well I have been breeding ball pythons for a few years now and know a huge amount about them and how to breed and care for them. I am always trying to help anyone I can that needs any info on them, but I obviously do not know everything.
I purchased a male and a female Fire from Mike Wilbanks back in 09 and was finally able to put the male to work this season. I bred him to 2 normals and my Bumblebee and Pastel. Well I done alot of reading on the Fire morph and somewhere I read or was told that they are lighter than normals and one of the ways to tell a Fire is the light mark on top of its head. What I didn't realize was that the light mark on its head is real light, and their pattern is way lighter than a normal not just a little bit. I also read that they can very on how bright they are.
Ok so I had a couple clutches hatch and they all have a light mark on their head. So I think they are all Fires. I have never really looked over the years at my normals to see if they have a light mark on their head although none that I have produced this season have had that mark (which is why I thought they were all Fires). It turns out that my first clutch only had 3 female Fires in it and they sold in a day unfortunately I had 4 for sale and all of these sold (I will get back to the one that sold that was a normal).
Alright that clutch gone and the next clutch hatches, same marks on their head but only 1 male and 1 female were extremely bright. I had 4 females in this clutch of all fires (so I thought). Well the Actual Fire male I sold to a good friend of mine and the Super bright Fire female I was going to keep as a hold back. The other three fire females that were darker but still had the mark I put on here for sale.
Once the ad was posted I had a couple people interested but luckily no one bought any before someone posted saying I had the wrong pics up. Then another person posted saying they were not Fires! So I posted a pic of them next to a normal that I hatched and there was a difference just not a huge one. Then Gregory J Hall sent me a PM explaining why they were normals and not Fires. We corresponded several times and he was very considerate in helping me out. (By the way I deleted the post as soon as he explained it to me). Of course I still questioned him and tried getting in touch with some very large breeders to here it from them. Well, Justin Kobylka replied to me after he watched my YouTube video of the Fires and he explained everything to me just as Greg did. So I let Greg know that he was right and I was wrong (that sucked but I'm only human right).
Ok for the one that sold on here that was a normal, I contacted him right away and explained everything to him and told him I will ship him my female holdback Fire and he can keep the normal female. He was very understanding and glad that I treated the situation the way I did.
I am extremely embarrassed to even post this but if it wouldn't have been for the good people on this board to correct me people would have purchased normals for $250 and after they found out I would have had to do alot of back tracking to make things right. So to Greg and the other people on here that posted on my ad about them not being Fires I SAY THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
I am 34 years old and have always tried to be an honest an trust worthy breeder that people want to buy from and have worked very hard to get a good rep on this sight. So I apologies for posting a false ad on here it was not my intension at all. I hope everyone on here understands and keeps up the good work of monitoring the animals that sale on here. I have learned how to tell Fires now and this wont happen again.
I am very proud to be a part of the Fauna community. You all make this site what it is
