In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

HI,
I am not electrically inclined and my husband doesn't know the answer.

Can I use one thermostat for 3 inch heat tape and 11 inch heat tapes if it has the same wattage?

Thanks, Paige :shrug01:

I'd proabably use two thermostats just to be safe. I'd rather spend the extra $50-$100 to not cook something:ack2:

I do have a 4" rack and 3" rack on the same t-stat, but they're both on dimmer switches that I adjusted until they matched temps (I bought the 3" b mistake).

You can.....but don't expect them to operate at the same temperatures, just because they are on the same thermostat.

That is exactly what I needed to know. I know the sizes are different but they are both the same wattage. If they won't stay the same I won't take any kind of chances like that with my babes. I owe it to them to be safe. : )

Was just hoping to limit my number of thermostats. Happy Friday!!

Look into the Ultra-therm Heat mats
Much better quality for the money then the old flex watt,
temps wont spike over 100*F like the flex watt
(even the low watt stuff spikes)

Thanks for your input Tommy. Had I gone that route to begin with would have stayed with it but I have a lot invested in the heat tape, thermostat and misc. V/R Paige

You can run different lengths of flex watt on the same thermostat providing the flexwatt is the same width.

I run 25' of 4" belly heat on my smaller bins, the style where it wraps through all shelves in one piece, and then I have 11" on my 8 larger tubs in 1foot sections all jumped together... Right now the stat runs at 88 on the 4" and with the 11" on the same stat it runs those bins at 81-82 which is perfect for right now since that's where all the breeders are. They will have to be moved to another stat again in a few weeks since there is no happy medium between the two

are those temps of the flexwatt or cage temps?

Probe for the stat is under a hide in a bin on 4" tape, where the temp stays at 88. When i pit a digital thermo or my temp gun on the hot side of any of those bins with 4" they are at 88.
In the bins with 1 foot strips of 11" tape, the temp reads 81/82 with the temp gun or a digital temp guage. That rack is on the same thermostat.
Both racks are built the same and use 39qt rubbermaids, just with diff size heat sources.

Thats your problem, you have 2 different watt heat tapes. The 11" is not getting heat applied long enough to bring up temps. You'll have to use another t-stat or make a compromise between the 2 temps. Maybe try setting the probe under the 11" tape and setting temps to 86 and see where the temp is on the smaller tape.
I personally would just get another t-stat.

Skip my whole ad please. For some reason i was taken to page 2 and was answering Kraze.
Good luck

lol yeah i was just letting the OP know what the approx temp diff is between the two sizes... it works for me right now perfect, as the bigger breeders are on the 11" tape and the smaller females and juvis are on the 4. A month from now ill need the 11" on another thermo... which im still willing to trade for ;-) hahah
