    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

fluoresent light question

the one that says for tropical enclosures. I am not sure if they are different there? It should say clearly on it that it is for tropical.

the 2.0 says that is for animals with low requeriments of uvb and uva and the 5.0 with high requeriments ( sorry for my english

Definetley the 5.0!

5.0 would be the best choice. Especially if you can't get them outside for real sun. I use 5.0 for all my chameleons.

Actually,

5.0's work OK, but you'll come out better with your animal using a 100 watt powersun Mercury Vapor high output UVB, or a 8.0 flourescent. Although the Mercs are initially more expensive, they do not have to be replaced every 6 months like the flourescents (meaning in the longrun it's cheaper to go with a mercury vapor). Using flourescent UVB is fine as long as the UVB output remains up, with a merc you don't have to keep tabs on it, and it projects the UVB a MUCH greater distance as well as through screening (which flourescents lose most of their output through screening). I personally reccomend them, they work wonders for chams and it is the ONLY lighting I will ever use to raise baby chams. So, my suggestion is to try out a powersun, solar brite, T-rex ect. High output UVB Mercury Vapor, it is the single best investment you can make when keeping chams indoors. Several companies online have them available. -Eric lago *MS Reptilian Hobbyists*

Personally,

I use Zoo Med Powersuns, 100 watts from Big Apple Herp, as well as Solar Brites from AAA Reptile Supply or Reptiledirect.com. They're easy to find and readily available. -Eric Lago

i dont mind paying but the think is that it is 100 watts
and the normal temp in puerto rico is 90 just sometimes 87
i think 100 watts can kill the cham

Actually,

If you live in Puerto Rico and the weather there is reasonable, the best thing you can do for your panther is to put him outdoors in an enclosure that is well planted (for shade), the best UV lighting you can give your animals is natural sunlight, and it makes a HUGE difference. I keep mine outdoors all summer long until the low temps start falling below 55-60 degrees. When it gets hot out (95 degrees plus) I simply turn on a soaker hose and leave it on the chams so that they don't overheat. Now if you're forced to keep him indoors and the temps are very warm, maybe 5.0 or 8.0 flourescent will suit your purposes, but keep in mind a flourescent UVB has to be changed every 6 months, but sunshine is the best thing for it, MVB's the next best, and flourescents work but nothing like the previous two lighting options. -Eric Lago
