Long story short, I went on a week long trip in the mountains and came back to a dead car battery. Apparently the brake lights were on all week, despite all the light switches being off in the car. Plugged in the battery to jump it and my horn goes off, all the lights start flashing... it was a mess. Unplugged all the light and horn fuses just to get the dang battery to charge, drove it home, and charged the battery all night.
The next morning I plugged in the charged battery and my brake lights were still on. Perplexed, I did a quick internet search and discovered that a 10 cent nylon washer (which sells for $5, of course) broke. Its only job? To depress a switch for the brake lights when the brake pedal is in the up position. My fix? I literally taped a dime with gorilla tape to the pedal.
All that stupidity and worry over literally a dime. I'll get locktite later today and glue it permanently in place. For now, this stupid repair works fine.
