Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I sometimes take in snakes and animals to try to rehab them and then find them new homes or keep the. But this one i dont think i can help. I got it from pet-o-rama yesterday and this is what they told me, It has a inverted rectum, they have had it for 2 months and they left it there like that!!! it also has not eaten in over 2 months, is skin and bones and it is dehydrated. Is there any way to save it? Its about 3 feet

I will give it to anyone that knows how to help this little one, that or they know a vet that could put it down because i dont think it can be saved at all. I gave it water for the first time in 2 weeks and it drank for about 5 or 6 min. I dont want to offer it food because it cant poop on its own.

If i dont find someone to take it and ether rehab it or take it to their vet and see what their vet says ill take it to mine and have it put down.

Health + surgery doesn't sound the best but when put down is the option I don't see why not try.

Though personally I'm wondering if you took it to rehab, why didn't you take it to your vet first instead of posting someone here to vet it? Unless I'm reading something wrong.

i say if you can look into an spca/vet kinda thing. i think the best thing other than putting it down would be to sign it over. they can fix the inverted rectum and find it a home no cost for the surgery. they may charge a fee but idk what else i can offer. wish i could help

i took it in because i know i could find someone that could actually get it the care it needs, i dont have a reptile vet and my vet charges 100 just to look at them so i figured i would ask everyone on here to see if they can help it and if not ill take it to my vet and have them look at it and fix it. Me being 16 and i didnt want to see the snake rot to death in a cold tank i took it and im not trying to find it the help it needs instead of letting pet-o-rama just letting it slowly die there

i understand. i would take it and get it help but honestly i cant risk losing money if it doesnt make it through shipping. its your choice

If it's as bad as you say, I wouldn't risk shipping it. And if for some crazy reason you do decide to do that, please - PLEASE do your research on the person you are sending it to. The promise of a free animal will draw all sorts of lowlifes out of hiding, and some of them will say whatever they think you want to hear.

I agree with the suggestion of at least giving it a try. Give a very small prey item and see how that goes. What sort of substrate are you using? Above all keep it very simple and clean. Some nice unprinted paper or paper towels slightly moistened. Do you have any pictures of how bad the prolapse is?

These are very resilient animals, and you might be surprised what you can pull them through with just some proper care. Of course it doesn't take the place of advice from a knowledgeable herp vet, but barring turning the animal over to a reptile rescue near you this might be a feasible option.

I really would like to keep the snake and get it healthy but i cant do it. I am keeping it in a 20 gallon tank with a heat lamp that keeps the tank between 80 and 90 usually around 85 or 87, i would put it in my snake rack (i have 7 other ball pythons) but im not sure if it has anything that might harm my snakes. I am keeping it on paper towels that are a little moist and it gets fresh water 2 times a day. I offered it a small fuzzy rat and it wasnt interested in it, I dont want to force feed it but it REALLY needs food!

very wise. if i were you i would not ship the poor thing either... if you do find someone to care for it, keep it local. most people would not ship a snake like that.. the stress from shipping could kill it. not feeding it is stressful too. do try a very small feeder. keep us all updated and make sure it doesnt get dehydrated. bad combo. if you can see the rectum try gentley pushing it back in or soaking the snake in a warm dish of water mixed with sugar... helped one of mine a while back when mine deficated and pushed out some of its rectum. idk good luck

Wow, that poor darling is thin. I'm not sure what exactly is going on around the vent, so I'll reserve comment on it or how to fix it.

I've been digging around looking for rescues near you. Problem is, Texas is such a huge state and it's often hours between activity.

Here are a couple I found within relatively close distance to you. If you can get a rescue to take the animal, I'll make a donation of a hundred bucks directly to their vet toward its care (or euthanasia if that is deemed necessary). It's not much, but hopefully it will help find a group to take him/her. I'd start with these guys, and see if you can hook up some sort of train to get the snake to them. If not, maybe they know of someone closer to you.

I hope you can find someone to take it, and get it all fixed up for a new home. And hopefully those pet store owners get a good karma bite in the butt for letting it get that far. Bless you for having such a big heart.

Damn, looks more like the underside of a boat than a snake, and I'm also not really sure what's going on with the vent. Good luck on it, whatever happens.

Thank you SO MUCH! ill ask them if they can help or ill keep searching for another rescue (or a vet that will work with me on the cost so i can try to rehab the snake myself)

Yeah thats why i took it because i almost broke down in tears because it is so bad! i wanted to tell the manager off and i will be reporting them for abuse because leaving it like that for 2 months is unacceptable!!! and the guy that got it before them should never have snakes ever again, it could have been prevented with simple care, like actually giving it water (because the condition it has is caused by dehydration and not being able to pass its poo or at least thats what i found on the internet)

Kacie,

That snake is in no condition to be shipped. I know you are limited in what you are capable of doing so my suggestion is call some of your local vets and see if they can help you somehow. At the very worst, they might be able to suggest someone (organization) to give it to. From looking at the photos, that snakes needs immediate medical attention before it ends up dying from starvation. If you can, try a pinkie (even though I doubt it will eat).

Ball pythons are very resiliant but, I dont see a good outlook for that poor snake.

i gave it a pinkie rat about 2 min ago and its eating it so thats a good sign... i think. It would probably eat more if i offered it, any opinion on if i should or not. I dont think i am going to ship it. I googled a few vets and my mom found one yesterday (that she didnt tell me about) that said they would look at the snake for 85 and then we could go from there. Im trying to get some money by selling some of my breeder rabbits and im thinking on selling a snake or two if it comes down to it (the surgery it will need costs between 100 and 400 bucks what isnt a lot to most people but for a 16yr old thats quite a bit of money)

as i said looks like it prolasped its rectum. can be caused by hardened poop in its colon, wrong heat temps, and dehydration. soak the snake in sugar water, keep it warm, make sure its eating and drinking and get it to a vet. they may need to stitch it to the inside of the snake so it does not prolaps again... it is a common and occasionally very troublesome issue. keep it hydrated warm and fed. if its a prolasp the snake is too weak right now to pull it back in itself. keep the area clean to avoid infection. i have had good outcomes from household painkilling neosporen when it comes to things like that or tears etc. good luck

p.s i am in vet school right now and i am studying small animals and herp practices. i am not far enough to correctly guess or surgically help but i have seen videos and a few college students have brought them in for our classes to help further our learning. my best guess would be a prolasped colon not an inverted rectum.

that must be it, because when i got it i was feeling its mid section and there were about 5 things of poop in there that mt friend pushed out when i got home all of them were hard as a rock
