Friend or Business?

I find myself in a prediciment and would like your opinion.

Ok.. where to start. I did a trade deal with someone I considered a forum friend. He shipped first and they arrived as advertised then I shipped out. A flawless first transaction.

He then wanted several of my leos and he sent partial payment then paid them off..... also a flawless transaction.

He then wanted several of my corns and we worked out a payment plan and I was supposed to ship at a later time once payment had been made, then Due to the weather in his area I shipped out in October without payment because of our last two transactions. He told me he would have me paid in full by the end of the year (2009).

On the 13th of this month it will be 10 months since shipment and he has only paid $30 towards a $150 bill. Last month I had given him till the 10th of this month to complete the payment or send two of my snakes back. Then I think it was last week he informs me he has had to move due to some family issues.

Within the last couple days he has informed me that the sale of his old house hasnt closed yet and he doesnt have the money... he claims he will have it by the end of the month.

To me it seems like Im getting the same ol song and dance that I have been getting everytime I try to get some headway on this bill.

He says there is no way he can make any payments (not even half) till the end of the month when his house sale closes. So it seems one way or the other Im not getting paid till the end of the month.

Question I have is .....

Should I still treat this as a friend deal and let him slide till the end of the month and then burn him if he doesnt follow thru..... or should I just say this is business and do what I told him I would do. I told him that if this wasnt taken care of by the 10th I was putting it up on the BOI.

What do you think?

At even a pitiful $12 a month, this would be paid off by now. Friend or not, there's no excuse to abuse someone's kindness like this person has. Ten months is entirely too long to blow someone off, no matter who you are.

And your call is to let him ride till the end of the month.... or just say enough is enough and put him out there? Either way I dont see anything happening till the end of the month in reguards to payment.

Honestly, he's made those same promises before so I'd say time is up. You don't treat your friends they way you've been treated by this person.

But that's just my opinion, and I'm very non-lenient when it comes to people owing me money and giving me story after story.

What was the excuse not to send two of your snakes back?

He asked me what happens if one of the snakes (or both) arrive dead. I told him DOA's dont do me any good and the debt stands.

Honestly I really wanted those snakes back because my male okeetee died and I dont have any of his genetics. I was even offering him $50 per snake (towards his bill) and he paid less than $15 each.

That's kinda what I was thinking and the reason I gave the deadline last month.

The guy is definitly not a friend. You should never ship until paid in full. It just sucks because you thought he was a friend, but it goes to show, that you just can't trust people. I think I would take it to the BOI. Good luck with whatever you decide.

It's time for your "friend" to own up to his debt to you, and pay it in full. He needs to realize that this isn't going away, and by going to the BOI, maybe he'll finally realize that he needs to step up, and make things right.

I would definitely post everything you have on the BOI. Don't wait til the end of the month, because he will find another excuse as to why he can't pay you the money

I think that if you have told him you are going to wait until the 10th that you should do so. I do NOT think you should permit him to move the deadline to the end of the month.
I think that you should send him a link to this thread.

I think, on the 10th you should post all of this to the BOI unless he has completed his obligation to you by paying in full.

Oh with the email I got last night... .he just made my decision a whole lot easier.

I asked him whats gonna happen if the house deal falls thru.... his response

I already talked to some one they will lend me the money if that should happen

My email back to him went something like this.... if you have someone willing to lend you the money if that heppens... then borrow the money and get this bill paid off. As of the 13th it will have been 10 months since the snakes were shipped.

I then sent him a bill via paypal.
