There are a handful of BOI regulars and I just wonder what they contribute to the hobby besides posting on the BOI? I'm truly curious.

IMO They contribute zero. They help divide people and thrive off of other peoples disagreements.

I guess some may have decided that helping expose the Garrett Smiths and Ty Parks of the hobby - the very people you've stepped forward to support with your endorsements/purchases - is good enough. A great many of us 'regulars' contribute a lot of their time to dissecting these situations, thus helping people we'll never even know to make informed decisions. People like you are only interested in your own ends; many of the rest of us have more altruistic motives.

When you've shown such a willingness to support those who wrong others, the idea that you give a damn about the hobby as a whole is pretty laughable. The hobby benefits from having a light shone on the type of people that you seem to gravitate toward.

If some devote time here so that prospective purchasers can make more informed decisions, I think that helps make buying and selling safer and is an honorable contribution to the hobby. Of course your own posts on the matter have value too, John. If regulars can question, so too should you be able to question, and readers may find that your point of view has value, but it is those readers who ultimately choose what is of most value to them.
The ability to look back at the transactions of a particular buyer or seller through the eyes of past customers and community peers is a huge plus not only for the buyers, but for the ethical sellers who spend time, effort and money making sure their critters and service are outstanding.

This is how I see it, too. If someone has a genuine experience to share, I want to see it freely shared regardless of previous ones.

I agree. While a link to other threads about a seller, if the threads are diverse in opinion, increases information, I think that those who have had good transactions should share them.

Every day is a new day, and if someone who has had poor transactions in the past starts having a record of good transactions, that information is just as important as past misdeeds. Whether those good transactions amount to a true change is up to the reader to decide, as long as all the information good and bad is available.

It explains the exact deal that we had. I can recap it in two lines. 1. The OP and I went in on a deal together. 2. I never agreed to assume all the risks. Thats it! Thats my bad guy BOI. However, I did give Mike back all the money that he invested in the deal. If you actually read it and can think for your self you could of easily seen this. I'm sure I've read a few BOI threads where you were the topic. When you were questioned, you went on the attack ... that could be where the others have developed a dislike for you and continue their "attacks". So yes, ignore their baiting attempts and your threads won't be so long.

While I don't take Chris's approach to scammers and thieves, his way is very effective at exposing many bad guys.

Regardless of accusations against you, that is grossly inappropriate. While somewhat humorous in a figurative way, violating someone's privacy to that extent is disgusting. In my opinion, that reflects just as negatively on the prankster, as it does on the wrongdoing of their intended target.

He admitted to doing this on my BOI. Not one of the BOI regs or admins said a word about it. His name is Patrick Sterling dieselfan. He has left me 35 or more negative karma's, called my home, made several fake Craigslist add with my contact info. Look up where I live and the value of my home, who's on the title etc. The craigslist thing may seem funny but it's illegal and easy to find out who did it. I paid $65 to get an internet sopina IP address, I think that's what was called. Anyway I have it on file. This was two years ago and he just left me a negitive karma last week. The guys a psychopath. For why? Let me tell you. I advertised some rare geckos. That were 3/4" long with tail, I used the breeders pictures in my add. He asked question that were already answered in the add. Although that always drives me nuts a re-answered them. He then asked the same questions again. By this time all the geckos were sold. He got so but hurt that he didn't get them that he's been harassing me ever since. Saying I almost ripped him off. I have reported his harassment to the admins and they've done nothing "from what I know" He's 34 and should know better. If he continues, I will move forward with what I should of done two years ago.

There's a Garrett Smith that lives in NC that deals with leapard geckos and frogs that's not me. Chris will bring my name up on other people's BOI's because he doesn't have a leg to stand on with me.

Oh this is too funny. Garrett is somehow now the victim of the "fauna bullies". Pfft!! Anyone reading this can look on my wall and see the BS Garrett posted last year and for record you had not sold those animals during my inquirey, you started stumbling over your own words after being called out on the bogus information that YOU presented. For some reason you could not remember if your rare, high end animals were WC or CBB.

The important part about Garrett Smith is that he makes promises that he cant keep, takes peoples money, does not deliver, and will flat steal your money all the while telling you that you are stupid, impatient and that you do not understand how importing works! Infact he STILL owes several people who have replied to this thread thousands of dollars. Garrett used the stolen monies to buy "high end" iguanas which he thought he could buy and flip and then refund the customers he screwed. As it turns out no one wants to buy anything from Garrett and he is still to this day trying to sell/trade them! The real knee slapper is the only people who came forward to defend him were scammers and smugglers as well. Minus one guy who posted today. Infact others who were forced to use Garrett as an importer went out of their way to hide having done business with him.

Garrett I love pounding you with negative karma everytime you post on this site. After your 11pm phone calls to my phone and you threatening me for over a year your lucky I did not swing by your house this summer while I was out in California visiting family. Hopefully potential customers see that line of red squares next to your name and they think twice and or do a BOI search. BTW I never crank called your home. Not at all, It was the other way around. I don't know him from atom. If you read that post you can see how creepy he is. He has no idea of any of my transaction but yet makes up an entire senero on what I'm doing. I did say that if he comes by my house like he stated that he will be infor a big surprise. Seems like a lot of non-factual and emotionally laced accusations being thrown around in this thread about the duties and responsibilities of staff on this site.

First off, when someone reports what appears to be an abusive post (meaning: in violation to the rules of engagement in the BOI or of this site in general), one or more of the moderators will take a look at it, and determine what, if any, action seems prudent to be taken. If an infraction appears to be warranted, no one else but the recipient of that infraction will be aware of that action being taken. That information is not made public. So no one will KNOW what actions have taken place. Perhaps some people would like to be able to gloat over such things, but it was my decision to make such administrative actions private between the staff and the parties directly involved. Yes, I know that this could lead someone to believe that they are being victimized by being the ONLY person getting infractions, but that just is not the case. You just cannot SEE what other infractions have been issued to other parties.

Now, about "harassment". It has been my experience that this term is normally defined as "that person said mean things about me". And accordingly, the recipient of such "harassment" wants staff here to smite that offending person, normally with an eternal ban or heck, even death to the OP if they could get that wish granted. Sorry, but that is not our job. We try hard not to get involved personally in personal issues between parties. That is a thankless job that normally just turns BOTH parties against us. We sometimes do express our PERSONAL opinions about matters, but officially as staff, we just do not take sides. Quite often, we really don't even CARE about either side. It's just not our fight. And in that light, there is just no way we want to get involved in the personal flame wars that often blow up here. We just expect everyone to have their "big boy" pants on and deal with their own battles themselves while we take care of maintaining the enforcement of the rules of this site. And those rules do not state anything about protecting YOU from anyone else's expressed opinions and statements about you.

As for "truth"? Sorry, but we are not private investigators and have absolutely no obligation, much less intention, of trying to determine any truth of any statements made by someone else. Other readers may require it before making their own determination about a statement, but there is no requirement here for such proof. If there were, then we would find ourselves obligated to try to determine whether such "proof" actually was legitimate or not. Which, of course, is just not feasible or realistic for anyone to expect.

Bottom line is that this site is run the way it is because after many trial and error attempts at various methodologies, THIS is the best way I have found for it to be run. Those that like it (or at least find it tolerable and helpful) are welcome to avail themselves of the benefits of using this site. To those who do not like it, and feel that I am obligated to allow them to utilize the resources of this site in order to belittle it and the membership, quite frankly, GO POUND SAND WHERE THE SUN DON'T SHINE. I don't need you here. I don't WANT you here. I don't require that you like this site, but I damned sight am not going to allow you to remain here if your only purpose of being here is to belittle it, my staff, the membership, or myself.
