In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Well while I was at school my dad tossed a spider he found outside in my geckos cage. He said it was like a wolf spider or something pretty sizable he said the gecko gobbled it right up is this safe for my gecko or should i worry..??

You have nothing to worry about..... Do you think leos eat only cricket and mealworm type insects in the wild???? LOL..... They eat anything that crosses their path......

something to worry about

There is something to worry about. If the spider or anything it ate came in contact with parasites, pesticides, or anything harmful then they are passed on to your gecko. One time shouldn't hurt, but don't let him make a habit of it.

Tim, I don't have any peticides around, so I throw stuff in all the time. My rule....if it gets caught in the house it gets to meet Mr. crestid!;)

Insects can travel for miles though, and often DO carry parasites. It isnt a safe practice in my opinion.

Ok thanks for the replies there are no pestisides around here so it should be ok. Would say a black widow spider be harmful to feed him??

It's all well and good to get free food for your Gecko but all it takes is one bad insect to kill him
I personally NEVER put anything from outside into my herp tanks.

Just because you don't have any pesticides around, doesn't mean your neighbors, the farmer down the road, or anyone who the insect might have wandered onto their property doesn't have or use them.

If a spider could walk from our neigbhors house to our house after being sprayed with pesticides, i'll set him up with his own little house and I'LL bring him his own food!!! (Everyone around here lives on 10 acres, and I can't even see any homes from ours) But I get your drift! Better safe than sorry!

I suppose that you might set up that little spider house because it might be possible for a spider to travel ten miles on an animal or in a car etc.
Plants are a great carrier of both insects and lizards from as far away as other countries. So it is theoretically possible to have this happen and even likely-LOL! :)
I know that I am very paranoid about feeding anything from the outside to my lizards-I don't pick dandelions for my Dragons and I don't bring insects in from the outside because I know that my neighbors spray their lawns.
A classical example of feeding outside bugs with fatal results is lightning bugs to Bearded Dragons- I have read about this so many times on boards from Dragon keepers in complete disbelief after they found their dragons dead and were asked-"Did You Do anything differently or feed anything from the outside lately?"
All it would have taken to have prevented the death of their dragons was too not feed from the outside.
I do agree-it's better to be safe than sorry

A black widow is not a good choice for food. If it can kill a human it can kill a Leo. (Or seriously hurt, can't remember if they are poisonous enough to kill a human or not).
Just use some good ole' common sense on this one. If you live out in the middle of nowhere like Overton, then maybe you can chance tossing a bug to your Leo. But if you live in any sort of populated area, it just isn't worth the chance. And poisonous insects are NOT a good choice for a Leo. You should stick to some captive bred bugs like crickets, roaches, mealies, etc....

It was funny as heck though when a big house fly got in my Leos tank.....they aren't graceful while leaping through the air.
You can buy houseflies on line too....

ewwww Shannon!...thats sick!...The day i order house flies is the day I want you to come up here and put me out of my misery!
And if you start selling flies on line (as well as your cockroaches) im gonna have to have a little talk with you! LMAO:D

The houseflies were for my big terrarium of anoles and longtails...

What I did not realize was that some of the flies were small enough to get out of the screened lid....so what was funny was all the fly strips my ex had to go buy and hang everywhere....

I never did buy flies again.
They send you a bunch of fly eggs, then they hatch. I also had a problem, once they hatched, of pouring them in the terrarium....duh...they fly away....

oh well

only worms, roaches, and crickets now!
