In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I expect that this year, like last year, I will be selling many of my geckos to people as their first reptile ever. It's always tough to figure out how much information to give them --too little and they can't care for their pet properly, too much and they get overwhelmed. I'm thinking of few issues in particular and thought I'd put them in separate threads.
For supplementation, I would ideally tell people something like this: keep a dish of calcium without D3 in the cage, dust feeders at least weekly with calcium with D3 and at least weekly with reptile vitamins. To do this, people have to buy 3 supplements and keep track of what they're doing. The people I gave a version of this to last year have not been able to keep it straight. Realistically, I would suggest that people buy one good supplement that contains calcium, D3 and vitamins and tell them to keep a dish in the cage and also dust feeders periodically. This way they only have to buy 1 supplement. I would also tell them that there is a better, more complex method which they should use especially if they're planning to breed.

I'm not really interested in another discussion about how to supplement since it's been done before, but would like some feedback on this idea and also some suggestions on what brand of supplement to recommend (I use the combination of 3 supplements).

Sorry this is so long.

Personally, I feel that if someone cannot keep up with proper supplementation (ie 3 different types) then they really have no business owning a leo.

The only supplement I know of that is commonly used with leopard geckos that contains both calcium, Vit D3, Vit A and many other vitamins and minerals that geckos need is Vionate. I use that supplement exclusively on hatchlings and juvies. It is high in Vitamin A, however, and I feel it is not safe for the geckos longterm health to use it as an exclusive supplement for adults.

Well, I imagine there is a supplement out there that has vitamins and minerals that includes D3 (none of what I use does). If you can find such a supplement, then they could just use that once a week....making only 2 supplements needed (plain calcium and vitamins).

Really though, I'm with Kelli on this one. It not THAT hard to keep track of dusting!

Maybe make a week long chart and tell them to use whatever supplement is indicated for that day of the week. It really can't get much simpler then that.

I agree with Kelli and Marcia, supplementing really isn't that hard, keep a small dish of calcium w/o D3 in enclosure at all times, dust food every couple days with same, dust food once or twice a month with vitamin powder. And, yes, they need to buy 3 different types, but the 3 they buy will last a LONG time.

Well, I'm convinced. When that many experienced breeders have the same opinion, it's worth following it. Now I just have to find supplements that are easily available at local stores; most of them don't carry rep-cal.

I'm not a breeder but i do like to leave the calcium w/o D3 in the cage at all times. i use t-rex leopard gecko icb dust with the feedings. once every two weeks i use the rep-cal herp vits and the calcium D3 and will also leave a small dish of that in for a few days. i have a calender so it's pretty easy to remember.
